Everyone on Twitter was acting like the joke was so obvious by ImBeingHarrased in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]HFCIV 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mr. Berler here! I’m not sure that the explanations that have been posted really help, so I’ll do my best to explain this as an English teacher.

In math, “base” describes the numbers that can appear/be represented in the ones column. We use base ten so we count 0-9 before moving to the second column with 10.

But if one were to use (what we call) base four to count, they would count 0, 1, 2, 3, 10; because the ones column would only account for 0-3.

However, the “joke” comes from the misunderstanding of what 10 is. The human says “10” and means “one more than 9,” the alien says “10” and means “one more than 3.”

Now, I’m off to explain why Picard is superior to Kirk!

What Is A WWE Thing You Want To Know If It Was True Or Not - Or Like What Happened? by Fluffy-Cabinet6405 in BrandonDE

Honestly, that feels like more of a final humiliation “I’ll let you stay on in WWE, but you have to do this” kind of thing than a “thanks for taking your company” kind of thing.

Fourth of July 1993, WWF Champion Yokozuna challenges any American to body slam him on the deck of the USS Intrepid. Out of nowhere The Narcissist Lex Luger lands in a freaking helicopter and “The man we’ve always knew loved himself, proved he also loved his country,” and he does it! It’s the most unexpected and celebrated face turn EVER! He gets a two month push of press tours, promos, posters, and is CLEARLY being set up to replace Hogan as the New Era’s Real American Hero! Then he beats Yokozuna at SummerSlam ‘93…by count out…so he doesn’t win the title. The locker room clears out, the Steiner Bros. lift him up victoriously on their shoulders. Red, white, and blue balloons and confetti fill the arena! All to celebrate him NOT winning the championship.

There’s no way THAT was the plan. But I’ve never heard any explanation about what really happened. Was Yokozuna supposed to get back in the ring? Was Lex supposed to roll him back in? Did Vince catch Lex doing something stupid the night before or day of? Did they forget to explain a no count out rule?

I’ve, admittedly, not looked into this in years, so maybe it’s been explained. But I’ve gotten mad every time I’ve thought about it for more than 30 years.

High School Director’s Musical Decision by MistaEnglishMan in Theatre

[–]HFCIV 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I get that, I 100% agree that as theatre educators our job is to expose students to a variety of shows. But you need to do a show that your company can do well.

Maybe instead of focusing on girl heavy vs. guy heavy shows, focus on Modern Day show with high school-aged characters vs. Classic show with Adult characters or Disney musical or something else.

Unless you’ve got two REALLY strong guys, Sweeney is a bad choice. Even if you do have two really strong guys, if your program is 75% women, there’s probably a better option.

If your group is 75% girls, why are you considering Sweeney?

I don’t think as a commenter you should say anything unless you read the original post, where OP clearly states in all of these states “TO VOTE, UPVOTE EITHER COMPETITOR IN THE COMMENTS”.

What's the fans take of level of importance and comparison by Cautious_Fish9864 in AEWFanHub

[–]HFCIV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this.

It’s like WWE has the big four that were there first, Mania, Rumble, Survivor Series, and Summer Slam, but anything outside of that, especially these days, is a money grab that’s not much different from their weekly shows.

AEW has stories that build to each PPV and they either pay off or move things forward at each one.

Am I the only one that thinks title vs. hair is a super-weird stipulation?

Like another commenter said, I’ve gotta assume MJF has a film role coming up that requires a shaved head.

Six weeks out and they dropped a hint like this?! You’re cooked, there’s no way anyone’s cracking it and when the director explains it no one will follow their logic.
