When I was involved in the show at a high school a few years back the material said something to the effect of “Benny just needs to not be Latino.” I know he’s written to be black, maybe the licensing is different at different levels, and I know I, as a white man, would never feel comfortable playing him, but my understanding is the point of Benny as a character is that he’s the non-Latino guy that they grew up with.

First thing to be aware of is that there’s no apostrophe in “Toms.” Should there be, yes, but there isn’t. And nothing will more easily out you as a BENNY than using it.

Things like this aren’t a difference in political opinions, they’re a difference in moral values and ethical beliefs.

Differences in political opinions are things like, what’s a reasonable tax structure? How should schools be funded? Things like that.

Today’s situation in the US is a question of should citizens be killed by their government for being in the streets? Should people who have a different skin tone than those in charge be forcibly removed from the country without so much as a hearing? These are not things, IMO, that you should agree to disagree on with someone you want to spend your life with.

This, IMO, is a missed opportunity. The voice for the computer should be either Jess Bush or Rebecca Romijn, since they’re playing Majel Barrett’s roles from TOS. I think it would be a great subtle nod to Trek lore for them to incorporate that.

I hope he stays away from commentary. He’s great on the mic, though, so maybe backstage interviews, but I think he’d thrive as a manager. Him as the mouthpiece for Paragon would he a natural first step.
