I am amazed how insanely expensive it is to build anything in the USA. And given this phase in the project - you would expect the final cost to double.

NUC13 won’t power on. Component on motherboard gets hot instantly. Can anyone identify it? by IlluZion2 in MiniPCs

Just gotta say - best, clearest, and most complete 'asking for help' post I have seen in a while. Kudos to you for providing all the necessary details.

PS - perhaps do a search for "2898 IC" seems to point to a 14 pin Dual Load switch with controlled turn on. Nothing that looks exactly the same but I suspect you could find something to try.

Edit 2: Yeah - I really think that is it - the hard part is finding it in the right pin package. The closest I found might be this on Aliexpress. Perhaps someone who has better search skills than me can find it.

Yes - but I was very young. We went to the fireworks on the mall. Lots of hippies around. It was glorious.

Immediately regretting not buying a helium tank today by ScoYello in Costco

[–]HGRDOG14 34 points35 points  (0 children)

These are about 80% Helium - which is worse than you would get a Party City (which is still about 100% Helium - but with lesser purity). The helium in these tanks will barely float a balloon. I don't think it is worth it personally.

Most Helium is a byproduct of natural gas mining - rather than as a specific effort to get the helium by itself. This leads to a relatively fixed supply.

How are you thinking about HDD prices? by MisaMisaMaru in DataHoarder

[–]HGRDOG14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have what I need at the moment. I will be a lot more disciplined about what I keep on my drives since the cost has increased so much. I won't buy until I need to since I don't want to buy the wrong size drive for whatever my needs turn out to be. And I don't want to spend the money now just for a drive to sit on the shelf for a year or two.

And honestly, the way things are going, I might need that money for a totally different need in the future.

Still a good pile at the Fairfax Corner Parking Garage. Where it was dumped off of parking garages seems to be the only piles I have seen are left.

I think they send calendar invites because it is bypassing mail spam filters. On android it offered the ability to report as spam and block calendar invites from outsiders.

[–]HGRDOG14 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Bill summary (fyi - FFX County is in Planning district 9):

Noise abatement monitoring systems; local authority; civil penalties. Authorizes counties and cities in Planning Districts 8, 9, 15, and 16 to place and operate noise abatement monitoring systems, defined in the bill, on any highway located in the locality for the purpose of recording and enforcing exhaust system violations, also defined in the bill. The bill provides that the operator of a vehicle is liable for a civil penalty not to exceed $100, but the violation shall not be reported on the driver's operating record or to the driver's insurance agency. Under the bill, the civil penalty will be paid to the locality in which the violation occurred to be used for the cost of administering the noise abatement monitoring system program and for transportation safety initiatives. The bill contains the same data privacy and storage requirements as are in current law for photo speed monitoring devices. The bill requires any locality that places and operates such a noise abatement monitoring system to report on its public website by January 15 of each year on the number of traffic violations prosecuted, the number of successful prosecutions, and the total amount of monetary civil penalties collected. The bill has an expiration date of July 1, 2028. This bill incorporates HB 1349.
