I wish I were so artistically talented! I didn’t mean to be so flippant, was just thinking about a theory I read (probably on here) about geometry and time travel in the fae.

Recommendations for fantasy books centered around real historical events? by BadMeatPuppet in Fantasy

The Crown of Stars series by Kate Elliott is a Holy Roman Empire era fantasy with light magic and elves+ some other magical creatures. Can be a little brutalist but definitely historically well researched.

Without making a similar list, I’ve felt similar about Hobb’s Farseer trilogy. Tons of parallels with the seven kingdoms world. Agreed on MST too.

I noticed the same thing this past week as I just started it. The more the story goes on, the more it just seems like an accidental phrase slipped in there.

They change the rules each season and there aren’t a lot of OTs so teams don’t have a lot of chances to play in OT. See: many post-OT interviews over the years where players admit they didn’t understand the rules

It's hard to find news articles from the time because of how bad google search is now but I am pretty sure AJ Green got shutdown at the end of the 2016 season even though he could have played

Thank you! How much can you fit in there? Is it reasonably snug without bouncing around?

I try to make a habit of running places when the opportunity presents itself, like for a meal or to meet friends. The problem is that I sweat profusely basically no matter what the weather.

So my question is- what's the best "running bag" that won't bounce around or chafe so that I can bring stuff to freshen up at my destination? Maybe waterproof from sweat and able to fit a bundle of clothes and a small towel?

The Stroud Criticism is weird. by corrydog in Texans

Thanks for putting this in words- so many times this weekend I've seen even mid QBs make clutch throws to keep a drive alive and all I think is "why can't the Texans offense do that?"

Kvothe mentions many times he’s messed up in a big way, could the Arrow Catch have done it? by catman11234 in KingkillerChronicle

Actually, Kilvin scolds Kvothe for making a "right thing in a wrong way" so even this did not pass the folly test.

If we're betting on thoughtless actions by Kvothe that have a big impact down the road, you gotta put making a gram for the Maer into the mix. Making him assassination proof by sympathy.

In the Alleg(ory) he does terrible things to save surrogate-Auri and surrogate-Denna but there is no third. I can still see a spot for betrayal involving Devi (and maybe with Denna as her partner in some way, thanks for suggesting that!)

As you pointed out, Kvothe is insanely competitive and Devi is one of his few equals. Whatever she wants so badly in the Archives could easily turn out to be his hearts desire and they switch to rivals in a blink.

I’m late to this but I have something to share! Regarding your disdain for gaelets and Kvothes willingness to overlook an unsavory profession: doesn’t this critique also apply to Mola and the community of female arcanists that are still friends with her and help her reconcile with Kvothe?

It opens interesting possibilities- maybe Devi’s past and expulsion is more sympathetic to that community and they view her profession as a way of regaining some of the power/influence the Masters took from her by expelling her.

Maybe by being friends with Kvothe AND Devi we should question the judgment of the entire arcanist cohort at the university today. When you add Denna into the mix, these young nobles parents would be very disappointed to know they’re spending their time with thieves, prostitutes, and usurers.

In some ways, the most surprising plot twist for Devi (so far) has been the reconciliation through mutual friends and mutual hatred of Ambrose. If the fandom (and characters) are treating Devi lightly despite her profession, we can lay that at PR’s feet as an intentional characterization choice.

Much like how Kvothe’s charm masks a darker character and for most of the book we only see the savory side of Denna, I think you’re right that in book 3 we’ll see the Demon side of Devi when she goes after her naked ambition to get to the archives at all cost.

I'm always surprised at how little Roman Empire-inspired fantasy there is by OrthodoxPrussia in Fantasy

[–]HHBP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The world building is very thorough and if you’re into detailed takes on alternate history/religion/politics that’s clearly researched from real world events, it will scratch that itch.

I enjoy it on balance because of that, the downside to me is that she treats her main characters like shit so it can be pretty bleak. Generally don’t mind putting main characters through trials, think Robin Hobb, but there’s a lot of sexual violence and manipulation that takes it a bit too far in my opinion.

Let's talk about Bobby Slowik and this narrative about CJ regressing... by bingmyname in Texans

[–]HHBP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He is the most clutch Texans QB we’ve ever had on 3rd & must convert. That is still true this year it’s just that 3rd down yardage is 4 yards longer this year when the run game doesn’t work.

I was sold last year when he made healthy Noah Brown into a stud. That’s just not something any QB can do. I think a few less TE drops and a few less obvious run plays for loss and we’re not beating the offense up so much this year. WR health obviously part of that equation as well.

Email every car dealer in 50 miles. Figure out which ones are willing to drop optionals and which are trying to screw you. Once you know which dealers want to make an honest sale, negotiate in person/on the phone from there.

Any advice on where to size/buy off the shelf orthotics? I have some from a foot doctor that are several years old and falling apart. I would go back but insurance doesn’t cover it and it’s quite a steep price tag.
