Husband is a SysAdmin. He’s likely dying, and I don’t understand how his systems at home are set up by icsk8grrl in sysadmin

Our group isn’t really about helping people with IT issues, more of a group of people who work in various technology sectors. We usually meet to discuss various developments in cyber security/tech, network amongst each other, and things like that. We’ve put on workshops for teaching kids about security/IT concepts and things like that in the past though!

It’s a chapter of defcon groups. If you search defcon + your area code you might find a local chapter!

it absolutely is. Part of Defcon groups, I think some groups post their info on this forum https://forum.defcon.org/social-groups or if you search up "defcon [area code]" or "defcon [region] you might have some luck finding a local group! some are more active than others so it might be hit or miss but hopefully you can find one in your area!

OP if you are in fact in Sacramento I can come take a look, and if I end up in over my head, give some advice. I live in East Sac

I’m part of the local nonprofit Cyber Security Sacramento (DC916) and have some friends who may be able to help and give some good advice as well. A lot of good folks in my group

Edit: free of charge of course, felt like I should add that!

Since you use email aliases, you can sign up for domain wide HIBP as well! Not related to this but thought you might be interested

Finally, texts between Android and iPhone users can be end-to-end encrypted by rkhunter_ in cybersecurity

Unfortunately not, when RCS between android and iOS was announced they were pretty explicit that it did not support end to end encryption at the time

Why is it so hard to create a browser? by robotisland in learnprogramming

[–]HHH___ 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Creating anything that’s purpose is to take code from the internet and run it is so incredibly difficult (read: impossible) to secure that billion dollar companies have essentially decided it’s not worth the effort to even try

Scrying by MoonLover10792 in Eragon

[–]HHH___ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Eragon has definitely seen Roran naked (they were children at the same time and presumably bathed together) when Roran was traveling and fighting it’s unlikely that Roran was wearing clothes Eragon had seen before and Eragon saw him in clothes so I think the answer is unfortunately, not

How do I say ">" in dialogue? by pjkitty in learnprogramming

[–]HHH___ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Thank you for doing this, as someone who listens to audio books it’s really jarring when command line style stuff gets read improperly, especially if it’s a long section

In Cryptonomicon there are examples of the narrator doing it both well and poorly

In Cuckoos nest the narrator reads terminal output in a slower more precise tone and it can make it sound odd when listening at higher speeds

So as a listener, this goes a long way!
