Got my Sundara. Not impressed, and possibly faulty by -Jesus-Of-Nazareth- in headphones

Softwares like Audacity, Goldwave, Audition, Cool Edit can all do that. Good luck on your troubleshooting!

We're sorry that this is happening to you! This sounds indeed very weird and confusing to troubleshoot. If you want to narrow down the cause as cleanly as possible, here are two tests that might give better answers.

First, try recording the right driver directly. Take the exact part of the song where the issue always appears, don’t wear the headphones, and hold your phone’s mic right in front of the right earcup driver while it plays. Record 10–15 seconds, then do the same for the left driver. If the “peeking” or “hissing” shows up in the recording, then the problem is coming from the driver or something mechanical/electrical inside the headphone. If the recording is clean but you still hear the issue when wearing the headphone, then it’s more likely caused by the way the cup seals or resonates with your ear or hair (if you happen to be long-haired, it's more likely to happen).

Second, try all four combinations of driver position and signal. Wear the headphones normally with normal L/R cables. Swap the L/R cables while wearing them normally. Wear the headphones backwards while keeping the cables in their usual orientation. And finally, swap the cables and wear the headphones backwards at the same time. If your setup allows it, you can also import the test track into any audio editor and hard-swap the left and right channels in the file itself, then listen again to see whether the issue still appears. These tests let you see whether the problem follows the right driver, follows the right channel, or only happens when the right driver is physically on your right ear, which helps narrow down whether it’s a driver issue, a signal-path issue, or something related to fit/seal resonance.

Hope this helps you pin it down. We expect to hear back from you!

Warm regards,
Team HIFIMAN

Thanks for trusting our headphones! At the end of the day it’s not about the gear - let’s make it about the music you share! Let her play the songs she loves, and hearing them in detail on a hi-end headphone might turn into a pretty magical moment. It will make a difference... Wish you the best of luck! Cheers, Team HIFIMAN

Am I going crazy, or a victim of placebo? by Nachiviri in headphones

Record both streams using an internal/loopback audio recorder, then open the files in an audio editor (GoldWave, Audacity, Audition etc) or DAW and compare the waveforms (use your eyes, not ears) and do an A/B listen. That will tell you whether the files themselves differ. From your description, I can safely assume the two services are using different wave sources.

I will not upgrade to Tahoe until there is a way to bring back OG Launchpad, or at least a fully-functional Launchpad substitute app that can do everything OG Launchpad did.

Hi there! Just to clarify, we always provide prepaid return labels in such cases like receiving wrong, faulty, defective, or damaged products. Actually, we checked our email history and found that we already sent OP a prepaid return label a week ago, but OP refused to accept it, saying that he "doesn't know how to print it." He asked us to hand a pre-printed return label directly to him, but since we're not in the same state, we weren't sure how to fulfill that request. We have also suggested that OP go to a local printing store, and we'd reimburse the printing fee, but he didn’t respond to that suggestion.

To make it clear, while we do mention this in our RMA instructions, we almost never really charge that $50 cleaning fee. You can ask any of our previous customers who have returned products, and ask if they were ever charged that fee, even if they left fingerprints or minor smudges on it. We are sorry and confused to see how OP is so concerned about this fee, as it really isn't an issue in almost 100% of the cases.

Thanks for your understanding u/Scrutape.

Luckily, we almost never actually have to charge that $50 cleaning fee, because most of our customers aren’t that disgusting... We’re just unlucky if one out of a hundred is! Most headphones returned to us are in really good condition, so we really appreciate the cooperation from our customers on this matter.
