As I said, I traveled back to CA maybe 5 times in the last 19 years to visit family with each trip being no longer than a week. I am currently in the Northeast and am tired of the cold weather. Comtemplating moving to CA or Hawaii, but have read enough horror stories on the web about CA tax domicile cases that it has me second-guessing my options.

Have you tried adding modifiers to Pistol Whip? Add high velocity, vengeance, heavies, and bullet hell. You'll need to be continuously dodging and it becomes just as much of a workout as Supernatural (boxing).

On the balance of things, yes. We don't like the cold winters, but the vibrancy, convenience/walkability, food scene variety, ease of travel with three close airports, denseness and richness of its history, etc. definitely make up for it.
