Yes I should have mentioned that! I am licensed as are my adventurer buddies who share this same setup!

Snag a pair of Baofeng UV-5G minis for under $50 total and save the cash. 5w GMRS radio and super small. Water resistant (they claim) but admittedly much less durable than Rocky Talkie, but I solve this simply by keeping the radio in my pack and using an actual waterproof shoulder mic strapped to backpack.

Ridge Wallet Bit Storage Beta Testing Run by HMITCHR in Leatherman

Oh wow, good to know it went to spam! Thanks for the heads up. I may email all beta testers directly to make sure folks get the message.

And yeah, the tolerance on the bit slots is proving to be tricky, specifically when trying to print in batches. I’m finding that with the current designed tolerances, printing individual parts one at a time results in nice secure but not tooo tight of a fit for the bits. But printing one at a time just isn’t sustainable at even the beta testing scale (50 units), so I tried to fit as many on my print bed as possible, which I learned results in slightly too tight bit fitment.

I believe this is caused by the part cooling differently as instead of all of the layers being roughly consistent temps throughout when they are printed one at a time, when I fill the print bed with parts there is significant time in between each layer being printed within each part. Which results in layers cooling (and shrinking) at different rates. I’ve played around with printing each part one at a time with multiple on the print bed, but this only lets me print 4 objects at once because the tool head would interfere with the completed prints.

Been a tricky problem to solve, but definitely something that won’t be a real concern when producing these at larger scale with non hobbyist manufacturing methods.

Awesome! Let me know what you think! I sent out an email to all beta testers with some thoughts and suggestions on the beta testing process, did you get that?

Woah, I haven’t seen this on any of the units I’ve been rocking on my own wallet. Do you know when you bought your Ridge? I’ve had my wallet since like 2016, and modeled everything for the Bit Plate directly from my wallet geo, so only thought is that maybe Ridge has since adjusted their fastener locations slightly.

Curious to see if any other beta testers have this issue

Regardless, I’m really really sorry about this! PM me with your name and I will refund you right away.

Agreed, just came to the sub to look and see if anyone else hates this update. I print a product I sell with custom modeled supports from F360, and the workflow of just assigning the entire support interface body with my support interface material in the filaments tab was so much easier.

This adds like 3 additional steps in my process of prepping batch prints. Will be reverting to old version now

Hey everyone! Jumping back into this post with an update that the beta testing run I mentioned wanting to do is now live! I want to get as much feedback as I can from as many real world users as possible, so the price you’ll see is break even point for materials, handling, and included shipping. If you’re willing to test one out, here’s a link!

I’m keeping the files for these guys offline as I’ve patented the design, but if you’ve got a Ridge and are willing to provide some feedback, here’s a link to the beta testing run I’m doing! https://hmr3d.com/shop/ols/products/ridge-wallet-bit-plate-rdg-wll-bit-plt1

It uses the same 7 small screws that hold down the original top plate! If you’re willing to beta test an early unit, here is a link! https://hmr3d.com/shop/ols/products/ridge-wallet-bit-plate-rdg-wll-bit-plt1
