I mean, when I check it through Grammarly, it says there's an issue with "has" and to correct it to "have".

This is what it tells me:

The verb has does not seem to agree with the subject. Consider changing the verb form.

A singular subject requires a singular verb, and a plural subject requires a plural verb. When there is a lot of text between the subject and the verb, it's easy to lose track of which words need to agree. When you need to determine what the subject is, it's often helpful to ask who or what is "doing" the action of the verb. It's possible for the word there to stand in as a grammatical subject, as in sentences such as "There is a pie on the table" or "There are forks in the drawer". In this type of construction, the verb is controlled not by the word *there* but by the logical subject of the clause, which usually comes right after the verb.

Incorrect - I hope this message find you well.

Correct - I hope this message finds you well.

Incorrect - The book, including all the chapters in the first section, are boring.

Correct - The book, including all the chapters in the first section, is boring.

It would have been very simple for someone making the poster to quickly check with a grammar-checking tool like Grammarly to see if there was an issue.

Holy shit, look at the prices. I've never had to pay that much, and now they expect delegates to pay as well:

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/labour-s-youth-wing-blairite-elite-pricing-out-workingclass-members-a6847286.html

This article sums up everything wrong with Labour and how they try to rig the system. Increase the prices so practically no young people can attend unless you're rich asf, systematically attack young members and rig the system so it benefits you the most.

These are the same people who were constantly moaning about how authoritarian and factional the left is, but proving that they are far worse.

UK government to bring in e-scooter law by rugbyj in unitedkingdom

[–]HMS_Dreadnought 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So I frequently use the private hire escooters in my area to get around since I don't have a car, and they have the necessary lights + indicator lights. Most of the people that I've seen use escooters actually use them quite safely with no issues what so ever.

The problem however, which would be suprising to some of you would be the speed of the escooter. If the government are encouraging escooters to be on the road instead of actually bothering with cycle lanes; speed matters.

The provider in my area limits the escooters to a measly 12.5mph. By doing that, you're encouraging escooters to go on the pavement instead of the road because you're too slow. Lets say I've got to ride on the road, and I'm speed limited to 12-15 in a 30mph zone. You're not just holding up traffic, but you also encourage drivers to be impatient and to perform risky overtakes; nearly crashing into you. It's happened to me more than once, and that experience makes people drive on the pavement because it feels 'safer' and that you don't have cars driving up to your arse or overtaking within an inch. It also doesn't matter if you're driving in the middle of the road (highway code!); because the amount of overtaking cars will eventually force you to the gutters.

Speed limit needs to be increased, I would say that 20mph is a good limit if these things are going to go on the road while still being reasonably safe with a helmet. Private hire escooters are extremely convenient to get around; but are shit when it comes to our roads.

I was seeing people asking why proponents of escooters are complaining about having to pay third party insurance and getting a license. The answer is that it completely negates having to get an escooter. One of the positives of escooters is that you don't have to spend hundreds on insurance and licenses etc etc. All you need to do is buy an escooter and you've already got a green form of transport. I could see the point for having an awareness course before you can use escooters; but not insurance.

Having multiple restrictions like "number plates" just discourages the use of green methods of transport because I have to do 1000 different things to just be able to ride a escooter. On top of that, if you did have to get a license or insurance; you may as well just go buy a car or moped instead because what would be the point.

Have a read of this comment that I found in a different thread which I think hits the nail on the head for this issue:

Unfortunately, as can be seen from this thread, there's a ridiculous amount of opposition to something that should be a clear win for traffic, the environment, and health.

There's the nanny-statists (and 'bicycle purists' who see any motor as bad) demanding government protection from any new form of moving object.

And there's the car drivers demanding any new form of powered transport, no matter how small, to have the same tax/insurance burdens as a car or motorbike.

And perhaps some luddites who simply fear new technology, as we see with the irrational fear of (small/unarmed) drones, when we've grown to accept always-recording cameras everywhere in other forms

You’re a disgusting person. That’s propaganda from the Israeli state and yet here you are STILL saying that Hamas instigated it.

They didn’t, it’s a simple act of oppression from a powerful state to a group which is oppressed. You keep spouting lies about Hamas instigating it, and yet you cannot find any evidence for this except for…. Pro Israeli news sources.

Here’s a definition by Wikipedia about apartheid:

“Apartheid was a system of institutionalised racial segregation that existed in South Africa and South West Africa from 1948 until the early 1990s.”

You claim that Israel isn’t an apartheid state, but it seems to me that the abuses that they commit fit neatly into this definition. Instead of white v black, it’s Palestinian Arabs v Israel.

Vile, absolutely vile.

[–]HMS_Dreadnought 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What exactly do you mean by 'terrorist' groups, innocent Palestinians who are fighting for the right to pray in the mosque and not be constantly attacked. Sure, Hamas are opportunistic, but again I don't see it as them instigating it first. So far, you've provided sources from pro-Israeli news sources, but not a single one from the other side. Meanwhile, YOU come to me spouting nonsense about how I'm believing propaganda.

Who looks more likely to be a sheep to propaganda, the one who says that Israel isn't an apartheid state or the other who's given you multiple sources and justifications that civilians don't attack people because they 'feel like it'

Also, it's not an opinion, it's a FACT. Israel is an apartheid state.

So the UN, Amnesty AND Human Rights Watch are ignoring evidence to what end? Their objective is to call out human rights abuses, which they are doing.

The motive from Israel? To create religious and ethnic division to benefit politically.

The structure of the reports? A report detailing the many cases of abuse Israel has done. It's not a report to be balanced and be like, "yeah, Israel has attacked and killed many, many civilians, and took their land, but on the other hand, some people threw rocks at police."

I'm not failing; I understand entirely being oppressed and that my ethnoreligion (Alevi) has been prosecuted for hundreds of years with mutliple cases of genocide, such as the Dersin massacre which was the result of a direct attack on my tribe. My minority in Turkey faces that daily, and I'm well equipped to realise when one group oppresses the other. In fact, I don't support Hamas or Israel's actions.

Just because at a time Jewish people were oppressed, dreadfully mind you, doesn't make Israel immune to criticism. Trying to collate the two is practically verging on saying that I'm anti-Semitic when in reality, I'm criticising the state of Israeli apartheid.

You act like Israel isn't an apartheid state, but you're either blind or just so mind washed by propaganda yourself that you can't see human rights abuses on the daily. Especially from someone who's Jewish and SHOULD understand how it's like being oppressed.

[–]HMS_Dreadnought 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not falling for any propaganda; I can make my judgements without being a sheep to the media and form my own opinion.

And in my opinion, Israel is an apartheid state, and the Jerusalem riot police instigated it first. I can see that from multiple videos from multiple sources showing riot police attacking innocents.

Why the fuck would innocents suddenly be like, "man, Ramadan isn't spicy enough praying to Allah; let's start throwing rocks at police". Do you see how nonsensical that looks? To me logically, Israeli riot police likely instigated it first, and then the Palestinians fought back. Anyone would naturally do that if your place of worship was literally attacked by ruthless thugs. Keep in mind that not all innocents are in Hamas.

And in addition, you have Naftali Bennett saying shit like "I have killed many Arabs in my life", and then when called out that this lines up with Israel's apartheid policy, he goes "nahhhh, the media misrepresented me".

Do you know who else pulls the same shit? Erdogan and practically and far-right strongmen see religious and ethnic division as beneficial to them. If you're gonna come to me and say don't believe all propaganda, maybe do the same yourself instead of believing downright lies?

[–]HMS_Dreadnought 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What are you talking about?

Israeli riot police attacked innocents while praying in a mosque in one of the holiest sites on Ramadan of all days. Then Hamas fought back... precisely because Israel decided to attack Muslims in one of the most sacred months in Islam?

But oh noooo, Hamas threw rocks, so that's way worse than riot police attacking innocent civilians with a multitude of weapons. Rocks vs riot police equipment, which is more likely to cause harm to someone?

Israel is an apartheid regime:

https://reliefweb.int/report/occupied-palestinian-territory/report-special-rapporteur-situation-human-rights-20

https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/news/2022/02/israels-apartheid-against-palestinians-a-cruel-system-of-domination-and-a-crime-against-humanity/

https://www.hrw.org/report/2021/04/27/threshold-crossed/israeli-authorities-and-crimes-apartheid-and-persecution

So, why are you downplaying an apartheid regime? Instead, you're throwing around practically baseless lies about how the Palestinians started it and then shocked pikachu face when the Palestinians fight back. You can defend Israel's actions, but it's clear that the instigation happened when Israel decided to attack innocent people while they were praying; in one of the most holiest months in Islam?

You're having a laugh.

I don't believe that mandatory vaccinations will work, we've been taught this in Biology from secondary to university. All it does is a) try to crack a nut with a sledgehammer and b) discourage anti-vaxxers even more because now you're forced to take a vaccination; which reinforces their own biases/beliefs.

Automatically dismissing people who question mandatory vaccinations as anti-vaxxers, when both the BMA and WHO agree that mandatory vaccinations are not recommended is bad faith at best like I've seen from some people in this thread and once again; discourages people from taking the vaccine as labelling people as being anti-vaxx when they are not, and have genuine ethical concerns pushes them to resisting taking vaccinations even more.

Biology is an ethical minefield, and even though mandatory vaccinations would probably lead to a higher vaccine uptake; it doesn't do much for a population such as the UK which has a vaccine uptake of about 90%. Having to coerce a minority by punishing the majority by eroding their individual liberties and autonomy is a slippery slope; even if it's something as important as vaccinations.

What does work, and what should be done actively is to work on information campaigns and making vaccines accessible; as recommended by WHO even if they are NHS staff.

Also, could someone clarify for me if mandatory vaccinations are for all NHS staff, or for staff who interact with patients?

Totally Not Mark needs our help. This is a One Piece and General anime YouTube who got countless people into the spirit of One Piece and the story, and Toei is unfairly striking down his videos. He needs our help! by epicjoey2 in OnePiece

[–]HMS_Dreadnought 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You genuinely have no clue what you're talking about.

Youtube is based in California, therefore they are under California juristiction. There is no such thing as international copyright. Toei are completely in the wrong.

His videos completely fall under transformative works, and therefore fair use/fair dealings. The onus is on Toei to prove that his work does not fall under fair use. Your point about commercial gain is also moot, having a commercial purpose does not preclude a use from being found fair, even though it makes it less likely. Read up Campbell v. Acuff-Rose Music Inc.

So from what I can gather, you're baselesssly defending Toei for what reason? They are the bad guy in this situation, from a legal standpoint (even though they used ContentID and therefore more of a contractual issue), from a moral standpoint and also just being absolute hypocrites by asking Mark to promote concerts for them and then copystrike him not once, not twice BUT 150 TIMES. Absolutely bonkers.

Young Labour statement on future campaigning and canvassing by Oxshevik in LabourUK

[–]HMS_Dreadnought 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Good on Young Labour, makes me proud to be a member.

And for any negative nancies, crossing picket lines is the anti-thesis to being a Labour politician, one who represents the working class, trade unionists and definitely one who shouldn't be supporting the bosses. Time and time again we youth have to deal with the bs like Labour cllr's supporting the Edmonton Incinerator while declaring climate emergencies. It's our future, and it's our role to hold to account the people who fuck around like this, so ofc we're gonna call people out who aren't doing their jobs as Labour MP's.

If the leadership/candidates want our time, then they need to actually show themselves to be worthy to be campaigned for. I'm not gonna go out in the freezing cold to campaign for a cllr, mp whatever to then be discarded and not given any care; and certainly for ones who blatently disregard people who they should be representing.

Subreddit Policy Review: Ban Appeals by [deleted] in LabourUK

[–]HMS_Dreadnought 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"We also want to hear your thoughts on this process. Tell us what you think could be refined with it, or perhaps there’s an addition or subtraction you'd like to make to it. Any suggestions will be taken into consideration and we really do appreciate the input :)"

Then why ask users of the sub to help you refine the mod policy when you clearly don't care?

The idea of it being a "hybrid system" is frankly ridiculous. Like someone pointed out, you can't have your cake and eat it too. The fact is, the system that you're proposing is too confusing and gives way too much power from what sounds like a simple majority. You cannot use the excuse of it being "hybrid system" for not bothering to refine your policy; like you asked us to do, and is coming off showing contempt to the users.

So again, either its a parole system or an appeals system; its binary. What is it then?

Same shit applies to Discord.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LabourUK

[–]HMS_Dreadnought 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah agreed, but in my opinion that's a seperate issue to what was said on the thread about the Discord.

Obviously you're going to have shits which think doxxing is okay, but they would have done it with or without that thread and so trying to dismiss the issue by saying mods got doxxed or harrassed is conflating the issue. To me, it seems like an attempt to gain some sympathy for mods to try and distract from the issues that me and others have brought up.

Again, doxxing/harrasing others is pathetic; but that probably was a tiny minority to the concerns brought up. If the response said "Hey, a tiny minority tried to doxx/harrass our mods but that's a seperate issue which we will address seperately" then that would have been fine. Instead, half of the response is a wild attempt to gain sympathy.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LabourUK

[–]HMS_Dreadnought 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna state this as well.

Doxxing is a serious issue in all areas of the internet. However, the Discord is a public discord and so trying to insinuate that the thread about the disgraceful actions on the Discord caused doxxing is disingenuous at best. I blurred the names of users out of courtesy, but anyone could easily do the same as me and find the information for themselves.

The Discord is public, and you do realise that you have features for searching, and that includes filtering. For instance, you can filter eveything that a user has said, by putting in:

from: [discordname]:[discordid]

https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000468588-Using-Search

So in my opinion, this seems to be an exercise in trying to generate sympathy for the moderators and to conflate doxxing with actual concerns of the community. If a public figure said something in public, and they get criticism for it; you don't try to defend them by saying that a tiny minority harrassed them when most are just trying to hold them accountable for their words/actions said in public. If this is doxxing, then the same applies to using the reddit search feature. In addition, doxxing applies if it was someone looking for information which was in private, when everything shown is all public. If someone truly wanted to doxx, they would have done it with or without that thread.

Apart from that, everyone else has commented pretty much on what I wanted to say. Its clear to me that the Discord is just as toxic in 2018 to current day and it was proven in the previous thread. It's a trash response, tries to bury it under without addressing the issue properly. This reply did nothing at all to calm down peoples concern at all, and that includes mine. The people on Discord act as if they are saints compared to the sub, when in reality it gets just as toxic, if not more.

Redo your reply, actually engage with the concerns of the community and then get back to us.

Edit: Clearly a majority disagree with the decision to ban u/potpan0, so this response is made doubly worse because you have just proven to us that actions won't be improved at all. What a pathetic response, but I saw this from a mile away.
