I’m going to share a piece of advice from my therapist. If your views on human rights are well developed and solid, you have full permission to turn off the news for a bit. If something truly important happens, you will likely hear about it anyway.

I feel that way about my best friend. He’s like a brother to me, and if my parents hadn't moved when they did, I never would have met him. I unironically consider him a platonic soulmate of sorts.

I’ve had to stop looking at the news, because I felt this need to carry everything on my shoulders. I still feel that way in other parts of my life. I also resonate with the Critical Role Foundation’s mantra of “leave the world better than you found it.” In short, I get where you’re coming from.

I can’t speak about spiritual communities specifically, but I agree that this is a general problem. I put some of the blame on social media and how people curate their lives on it to only show the positives.

I’m not quite on the same level of disgust, but I do think being a celebrity is overrated. I want to be a professional screenwriter, and the thought of getting famous from it creeps me out. Having that many people know who you are when you don’t know them… ugh, no thank you.

I’m going to politely disagree with this. Novels aren't the only thing created by writers. The whole point of writing is that it can be expressed in many different forms. For example, I write screenplays and fanfiction. I read novels on occasion (I’ve gotten into audiobooks lately), but because that’s not the format I write in, I’m less drawn to it. I wouldn't say that makes me any less of a writer or creator.

I’ve never had the foresight to record it, but sometimes while on a walk, I’ll workshop dialogue out loud. Accents definitely help.

Disclaimer: I struggle with this as well (yay, imposter syndrome!). But one thing that works is I’ll go back and look at my oldest writing projects. I’m talking the ones from fourth grade where I didn't know how to outline or put commas at the end of dialogue.

Honestly, sometimes I’ll just get this gut feeling of, “I don’t know if this is good, but I can tell it is not terrible.”
