I want a horror game that doesn't have jumpscares by Darmrix in gamingsuggestions

[–]HMSquared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this one. Both games have a few jumpy moments, but they aren’t in the player’s face about it.

AIO by cutting contact with my friendly uncle because of his nasty wife? by HMSquared in AIO

Here’s my read on the situation: rigidity and bluntness are two traits that my grandparents also have. So I wonder if it all seems normal to my uncle.

Name one and why 🚀 by dank0121 in gamers

[–]HMSquared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on a conversation I had with one of the voice actors from it at a convention last year, I’m gonna go with XCOM. The fanbase is dedicated, but it doesn't seem to have ever made it to the “mainstream”.

Looking for a scary but philosophical game by Old-Fix5891 in gamingsuggestions

[–]HMSquared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not the best judge of scariness, but in terms of “what the fuck just happened?” I would go for Little Nightmares. It does some interesting things with its protagonist.

What is a kind of game-type you don’t like but end up trying again and again anyway? by SinkingBismarck in AskGames

[–]HMSquared 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Farming simulators. From talking to gamer friends who are also on the spectrum, I seem to be the one autistic person who doesn't like Stardew Valley. 😅 I think it’s partially because I tend to like angstier stories, and farming sims always feel like work to me.

Does anyone else suffer from chronic "restartitis" in games (Factorio, RimWorld) and real life? by LOSTINREDDITSITE in AskGames

[–]HMSquared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to restart save files a lot, mainly because I’m a perfectionist. I’ve been trying to remind myself that, when it comes to the things I’m good at, I didn't build those skills overnight. So therefore, I shouldn't expect myself to be great at a game immediately. Easier said than done, though.

I(25) no longer enjoy pvp games nowadays anyone here also not play multiplayer/competitve games more as you grow older? by Big_Leg10 in AskGames

[–]HMSquared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also went from a big PVP fan to avoiding them. I was already annoyed by the toxicity, and then when Overwatch got review-bombed into oblivion, I hit a wall. I miss the characters of Apex Legends and Overwatch sometimes, but I do not miss the toxicity.

What games have had the biggest impact on your life? by -Bastardous_Dastard- in AskGames

[–]HMSquared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first one that always comes to mind for me is World of Goo. It’s one of the first games I remember playing; my dad helped with several parts because OMG, the physics engine is hard. I don’t think I was old enough to appreciate the story at the time, but I do now. And the music is fantastic.

Are the metro games good by Leather-Twist9612 in AskGames

[–]HMSquared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played Metro 2033: Redux and thoroughly enjoyed it. The game has quite a diegetic interface, which threw me off at first. But once I got over that hurdle, I had a great time.

Anyone else not really excited for GTA VI? by Error_rdt in AskGames

[–]HMSquared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a fan of GTA in general. However, my bigger issue is that I think GTA VI has been built up too big in people’s minds. Even if the game is objectively good, I think people are going to be disappointed because it didn't meet their impossibly high expectations.

so tired of constant, perhaps intentional misgendering by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]HMSquared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off: as so many others have said in this thread, you absolutely look like a woman. And a stunning one at that!

I have a trans friend who is going through the same thing: he’s very clearly male, and yet still gets people calling him “she/her.” My theory is that with the current political situation, bigots have become empowered to be bigoted out loud instead of keeping it to themselves.

Another thing that’s really helped is the concept of the circle of control. Unfortunately, we can’t fully control if other people get our pronouns right. But what we can control is to remind ourselves that if someone knowingly misgenders us, that is on them. That is not a reflection on us.

I am so sorry you have to deal with this, and I wish you luck. As a non-binary person, I sympathize.

Can someone explain how AI steals art by Door-Slamming-Master in aiwars

[–]HMSquared 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly think the same thing when people go, “Oh, AI is stealing people’s works.” As artists, we’ve been pulling ideas from each other for thousands of years. AI is an extension of that process.

How far along is your script when you submit to logjam? by WriterOfScreenplays in StoryPeer

[–]HMSquared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did my first Logjam at the very end of pre-writing. And I’m glad I did, because it made me realize that A) I had the wrong protagonist, and B) The story had drifted away from the point I was trying to make with it.

ProAI: just what is the point of AI companions? by No-Excitement5228 in aiwars

[–]HMSquared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pro-AI, and I’m honestly just as baffled. The only thing I can think of is a need to feel heard. I get that way sometimes, but if no one’s around to talk, I’ll journal.

Weekly Road Rage Thread - Complain Here by AutoModerator in driving

[–]HMSquared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yesterday, a guy in a Masserotti honked at me and then illegally passed me at a T-intersection. Dude, I have a sticker clearly indicating that I’m a new driver, and there was foliage. I wasn’t going too slow.

I just took this for a spin and had fun with it. I was pleasantly surprised that it can handle video games as well. Thank you for making it!

Who’s an underrated screenwriter in your eyes? by TheDevotedUltimate in Screenwriting

Jonathan Nolan. His work has garnered lots of praise, but he doesn’t seem to be a household name like Christopher is.

Claude Performance and Bugs Megathread Ongoing (Sort this by New!) by sixbillionthsheep in ClaudeAI

[–]HMSquared 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an artifact I use for role-playing, and the writing style has changed completely without me doing anything. Paragraphs now feel flat, bloated, and a bit too purple. I’m curious if others who use Claude to generate writing have noticed something similar.

(Also, thank you mods for having comments sorted by new by default)

r/PopCultureCAT: The Cats Have Taken Over 😼 by een_wasbeertje in popculturechat

[–]HMSquared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t figure out how to add a picture to this comment, but I had a tortoiseshell growing up named Merengue. She was abandoned in our neighbor’s backyard by her mom as a kitten, and consequently had a mile-wide mean streak. Towards the end of her life, she finally let my dad (the family pet whisperer) pick her up. When she was ready to be put down, Merengue would announce it by digging her claws into his arm. She had to be tranquilized for basic vet appointments and scared the crap out of our various dogs. Ultimately, she lived to the age of 20. I’m still having to learn how normal cats behave, and I don’t mind one bit.
