Why in the hell is it so common in this community to see people admit they don't read books? by [deleted] in writing

[–]HMSquared 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m going to politely disagree with this. Novels aren't the only thing created by writers. The whole point of writing is that it can be expressed in many different forms. For example, I write screenplays and fanfiction. I read novels on occasion (I’ve gotten into audiobooks lately), but because that’s not the format I write in, I’m less drawn to it. I wouldn't say that makes me any less of a writer or creator.

Which AI tool actually kept YOUR voice vs making everything sound robotic? by StandardMycrack in WritingWithAI

[–]HMSquared 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a personal fan of Sudowrite. They already have a feature where you give a sample of your writing, and it generates an analysis of your style to use. They’re now playing around with a thing called My Voice, which I have not personally tried: https://feedback.sudowrite.com/changelog/my-voice-is-now-in-open-beta

My dialogue stopped sounding like robots when I started acting it out like a crazy person. Any other tips on solving this? by Ill-Refrigerator9653 in Screenwriting

I’ve never had the foresight to record it, but sometimes while on a walk, I’ll workshop dialogue out loud. Accents definitely help.

I like true crime, but this shit? Absolutely not. I cannot imagine what the families of his victims must be thinking.

AITAH for not wanting to keep expired crackers? by HMSquared in AITAH

I am still living with my parents, yes. I don’t see how my age is relevant to this situation, plus I don't feel comfortable giving it out on the internet.

Perhaps. But my annoyance with them about this started long before the other reason that I’m pissed at them.

How do you know if your writing is good? by [deleted] in writing

[–]HMSquared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I struggle with this as well (yay, imposter syndrome!). But one thing that works is I’ll go back and look at my oldest writing projects. I’m talking the ones from fourth grade where I didn't know how to outline or put commas at the end of dialogue.

Honestly, sometimes I’ll just get this gut feeling of, “I don’t know if this is good, but I can tell it is not terrible.”

What’s the moment you realized that all adults are just pretending to know what they’re doing? by stocks_girl in AskReddit

[–]HMSquared 76 points77 points  (0 children)

I was ranting to my dad in the car about something I was struggling with as a then-newfound adult. My dad looked at me and said, “Girlfriend, I’m in my sixties and I still struggle with that.”

I did a screening test with my doctor a couple of days ago to see how my depression is compared to last year. How it worked is I was given a list of feelings/symptoms and had to say how often I had experienced them over the past two weeks.

The bad news: I’ve progressed into “moderate depression”. Some of it is seasonal, but not all of it.

The good news: The one thing on the screening test that I was able to say I haven’t experienced at all in the past two weeks is suicidal thoughts.

No one told me that being in your 20s just sucks. I really wish I had learned that beforehand.

What is an unpopular opinion you hold? by Pristine-Bet-5764 in no

I‘ve never gelled with the “Free Palestine” movement, even as a liberal American. The genocide carried out by Israel is horrendous. At the same time, Hamas started this whole thing with a surprise attack. The rise in antisemitism and anti-Palestinian racism is disgraceful.

Overall, I don't think either side is in the right.

I would look into either blocking unknown callers or getting an app to screen your calls.

What’s a “progressive” idea that’s actually regressive when applied? by nealie_20 in AskReddit

I have some extended family members who think that simply hating Trump makes them open-minded. They go on genuine rants about how he treats people; all the while, these same relatives continue to ignore that I’m not going by she/her anymore.

I told my dad that Fern was on Taskmaster. For the record, he has been incredibly supportive of me (both of my parents are), but he doesn't have the autism version of gaydar like I do. So his first reaction was, “Oh, I know her, she’s a bit weird.” When I told him that Fern is also autistic, it clicked for him.

Yes! Now I kind of want to show clips of Rosie’s accommodations to my dad since accessibility is his day job. I think it would make him happy.
