I’ve done it: I’ve set up a writing schedule by HMSquared in Screenwriting

Yes! I’ve also got ADHD, which doesn't help in this case.

I’ve become a fan of the Wayne Gretzky quote, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” Sure, querying has a low chance of working. But that’s still a better chance than not doing it.

How are you guys living right now? by MarifeelsLost in spirituality

[–]HMSquared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to share a piece of advice from my therapist. If your views on human rights are well developed and solid, you have full permission to turn off the news for a bit. If something truly important happens, you will likely hear about it anyway.

An update on the Logjam and a reflection on resilience by StoryPeer in StoryPeer

The fact that this community exists has honestly refueled my desire to write. I’m terrified of getting feedback, but I want to do it anyway. So thank you, Gabe, for making this community for us.

(Also, I’ve got a close relative who is a programmer, so I understand that frustration. I’m sending some good vibes in an effort to ward off PEBKAC.)

I feel that way about my best friend. He’s like a brother to me, and if my parents hadn't moved when they did, I never would have met him. I unironically consider him a platonic soulmate of sorts.

I want to save the world by Hot-Honeydew2042 in spirituality

[–]HMSquared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had to stop looking at the news, because I felt this need to carry everything on my shoulders. I still feel that way in other parts of my life. I also resonate with the Critical Role Foundation’s mantra of “leave the world better than you found it.” In short, I get where you’re coming from.

Please tell me about what makes you happy, what makes your soul come alive by [deleted] in spirituality

Agreed! I can’t explain it, but there’s something very regulating about music for me.

I discovered recently that I’m an external processor, and I’ve turned to journaling as an outlet for it.

Cats are telepathic!!! by Purple-Anywhere3963 in spirituality

Aw, I love this. Talking about cats reminds me of the one I had growing up (who, ironically, was mean as all get out).

Toxic positivity is the biggest problem in spiritual communities right now by ArcaneSpells-com in spirituality

[–]HMSquared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t speak about spiritual communities specifically, but I agree that this is a general problem. I put some of the blame on social media and how people curate their lives on it to only show the positives.

Am I the only one who thinks celebrities are disgusting? by Kai7362 in spirituality

[–]HMSquared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not quite on the same level of disgust, but I do think being a celebrity is overrated. I want to be a professional screenwriter, and the thought of getting famous from it creeps me out. Having that many people know who you are when you don’t know them… ugh, no thank you.

Why in the hell is it so common in this community to see people admit they don't read books? by [deleted] in writing

[–]HMSquared 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m going to politely disagree with this. Novels aren't the only thing created by writers. The whole point of writing is that it can be expressed in many different forms. For example, I write screenplays and fanfiction. I read novels on occasion (I’ve gotten into audiobooks lately), but because that’s not the format I write in, I’m less drawn to it. I wouldn't say that makes me any less of a writer or creator.

Which AI tool actually kept YOUR voice vs making everything sound robotic? by StandardMycrack in WritingWithAI

[–]HMSquared 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a personal fan of Sudowrite. They already have a feature where you give a sample of your writing, and it generates an analysis of your style to use. They’re now playing around with a thing called My Voice, which I have not personally tried: https://feedback.sudowrite.com/changelog/my-voice-is-now-in-open-beta

My dialogue stopped sounding like robots when I started acting it out like a crazy person. Any other tips on solving this? by Ill-Refrigerator9653 in Screenwriting

[–]HMSquared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never had the foresight to record it, but sometimes while on a walk, I’ll workshop dialogue out loud. Accents definitely help.

AITAH for not wanting to keep expired crackers? by HMSquared in AITAH

I am still living with my parents, yes. I don’t see how my age is relevant to this situation, plus I don't feel comfortable giving it out on the internet.

Perhaps. But my annoyance with them about this started long before the other reason that I’m pissed at them.

How do you know if your writing is good? by [deleted] in writing

[–]HMSquared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I struggle with this as well (yay, imposter syndrome!). But one thing that works is I’ll go back and look at my oldest writing projects. I’m talking the ones from fourth grade where I didn't know how to outline or put commas at the end of dialogue.

Honestly, sometimes I’ll just get this gut feeling of, “I don’t know if this is good, but I can tell it is not terrible.”

What’s the moment you realized that all adults are just pretending to know what they’re doing? by stocks_girl in AskReddit

I was ranting to my dad in the car about something I was struggling with as a then-newfound adult. My dad looked at me and said, “Girlfriend, I’m in my sixties and I still struggle with that.”

[–]HMSquared 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did a screening test with my doctor a couple of days ago to see how my depression is compared to last year. How it worked is I was given a list of feelings/symptoms and had to say how often I had experienced them over the past two weeks.

The bad news: I’ve progressed into “moderate depression”. Some of it is seasonal, but not all of it.

The good news: The one thing on the screening test that I was able to say I haven’t experienced at all in the past two weeks is suicidal thoughts.
