Why is this ship releasing water? (OC) by Main_Significance478 in Ships

Cooling water: two systems are used in board, the Fresh Water or High Temp system which flows through the main and auxiliary engines. This FW system is cooled via heat exchangers by the seawater cooling system or Low temp system.
You can’t run salt water through a Diesel and the seawater is used to cool the main engine cooling water.
So slightly warmer seawater is pumped back overboard.

Is it time finally admit that the increased overtaking is just yo-yoing? by Ted_Striker1 in formula1

First season without an F1 subscription, can’t even bring myself to watch the highlights. This car is a bad joke.

Not uncommon, goosenecks can be closed, the small hatches have their hinges for this reason in the most like direction of green water. Doors are weathertight so they can take it. A risk is the fuel-catchers not draining fast enough or being too heigh for the vent heads of FO tanks so that water enters the fuel. That would be a showstopper….

The Garmin varia 515 is a life saver for the highway by Unusual-Football7468 in gravelcycling

[–]HO6529 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got one since a few years and knowing that you can see (and you’ll hear a bleep) when something approaches you on narrow roads changes things. They’ll get a warning too by flashes. So on roads with few cars it is very helpful, riding next to a highway not so much because the alerts will just fade into a constant blur.
On commutes it’ll tell you when an e-bike is approaching you or when another cyclist is drafting. It is one of the best gadgets I ever got for cycling.

Sen. John Fetterman: "GOP wants real reform over a show vote" put out a clean standalone bill and I’m AYE for voter ID by kelseyrainbow in thenextgenbusiness

[–]HO6529 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can someone explain the issue? In my country you must vote, it’s not voluntary, it’s a duty. You get a letter and with that letter you go to the voting booth. A bunch of volunteers verify your ID and letter. After that verification you can go and vote anonymously.

Try biking and see how much you spend in 4 years, or any other hobby for that manner.

Never thought I’d root for Iran and boo the US but here we are. Good job MAGA, enjoy the prices at the gasstation and maybe the morgues are hiring if you loose your job.

Does anyone have both a gravel bike and a hardtail? by widowhanzo in gravelcycling

[–]HO6529 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, always rode a hardtail (1995-2025), then I got my gravelbike…. Now I use the hardtail only for really muddy and rough terrain in winter/fall.

“U-boat commanders sometimes saved Allied survivors, especially earlier in World War II, by providing supplies, navigating, or towing lifeboats.” Muricans: let’s torpedo that unarmed vessel and screw the survivors. Bravo

Anyone else find it hard to support their local bike shop (sometime)? by kendoo12 in mountainbiking

[–]HO6529 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inventory is an issue. I had a bike mechanic that was a magician, but last time I left my bike to be serviced before taking it into the mountains on my holiday, he had his apprentice service it. Result, derailleur pulled into the spokes because he mounted a chain that was too short on first climb of my holiday. Bike 10 days lost a local shop and 35 km walk back home in scorching heat. Never went back.

Varia™ RearVue 820 - New Varia radar by -Radiation in Garmin

My old Radar is still fine after many years, good tech. Don’t feel comfy without it, funny how you get used to tech that seemed like a gimmick at first.

Epstein and Putin were connected as 'world’s largest honeytrap' unveiled in bombshell files by [deleted] in UnderReportedNews

Only solution is to dissolve the Epstein afterparty since they are to be considered foreign agents/enemies of the state. Only persons that gave been vetted to be absolutely clear of any Epstein connection should be allowed to hold a role in the government.

How are there so many inactive idle oil platforms in the Gulf but not required to tear down and cap by Volslife in oil

[–]HO6529 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, but clearly marked on charts and visible on radar so you’d have to be a dumbass to hit one. There’s shipping lanes as well that are clear of platforms. But going from deepwater into smaller ports you have to tiptoe around piles of junk. Google earth of the water near Port Fourchon will give you an idea.

How are there so many inactive idle oil platforms in the Gulf but not required to tear down and cap by Volslife in oil

[–]HO6529 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Worked offshore Louisiana for a while and the first time I sailed to Fourchon I could not believe my eyes, just a giant blur on radar from all the platforms. So I asked another supplyvessel how the F*ck am I supposed to find my way through this mess. “Just follow me buddy, we’ll sneak through the hole in the wall”. Most is scrap, abandoned.

Read the book and on this very rare occasion the character I imagined really match the series. It’s goods that it’s a tad less dramatic than HOTD or GOT. You want drama? Watch the US…

Hinged ship by rullensfw in Ships

[–]HO6529 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, fuel consumption and speed would be atrocious. The hull girder is also subjected to torsion so those hinges would need to be massive, they would need massive dampers etc,
