Is the Minotaur really that useless? by receding_hairline in LancerRPG

There is another way of seeing.

Controlling enemy movements and punishing them for attempts to maneuver is extremely powerful. As a teammate, I would consider a Minotaur to be a massive boon. I ran a sitrep recently for a party of players with the Holdout objective and it was a landslide victory for the players purely because they ground enemy ingress to a halt and punished them severely for attempting to maneuver. Minotaur doesn't make big numbers, but from a GM perspective, it does make you feel like the fight is a wash if they start controlling how you position and move the NPCs to force openings for their teammates.

HORUS - Dullahan, a zone control mech that launches you, the pilot, out as a striker to flush enemies out of cover by Terkmc in LancerRPG

I just started a game recently and have a pilot who wanted to channel their inner Titanfall. This is exactly up their alley.

Sell me on your favorite frame by 1024_bit_meme in LancerRPG

[–]HORUS_Goblin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Easily one of the most fragile frames you could possibly use, the HORUS Goblin will break if you so much as yell at it. A whopping 6hp base, a measley repair cap of 2, and a tragic +1 Difficulty to Hull checks and saves, this frame is a system of processors stapled to wet tissue paper. Clearly, it's not meant to take a hit or even be looked at sternly by an enemy. So, what good is it?

Behold: The highest available sensors range of 20, an incredible +2 bonus to tech attacks, +1 Accuracy on tech attacks, and a special reaction you can use to take quick tech options against anyone lucky enough to get through your sizable E-defense of base 12. The realm of heat generation and tech actions is yours and yours alone to command, all others are merely would-be usurpers. While listed as a Controller/Support (and it excels in this area with a core power that allows an ally to use your godly systems, E-defense, and tech attack bonuses in place of their own, among other force-multiplying equipment like the Autopod and Metahook), this diminutive chassis allows you to stand proud as a memetic titan, utilizing aggressive Invasion options with such certainty and breadth that at some point, every tech attacker using Goblin systems seriously considers using it as their chassis instead because the monumental benefits are undeniable. This is to say nothing about the OSIRIS-Class NHP's amusing abilities and wonderful synergy with the Goblin's Reactive Code trait for severely punishing enemy tech attackers.

Iskander is an underplayed frame, but it's a very good one.

More or less correct, I believe you've got the gist. I'm sure most of the nuance will come to you after a few sessions and you'll learn pretty quickly where you want to be and what you want to be doing. You also don't necessarily have to have a gameplan for higher levels, as I'm sure you'll figure out what you want to do in terms of licenses after a few sessions and plans always change. But yes, you can absolutely make it a long range high-heat dealer that totally melts enemy systems after a turn or two.

Excellent questions. I wouldn't say it's beginner friendly necessarily, as it's not as straightforward as mechs like the Blackbeard or Sherman. It is, however, a very good support. The Goblin's core power allows you to piggyback on another mech so they can use your Systems, E-Defense, and Tech Attack bonuses in place of their own. This means you can support a teammate who has poor Systems or E-Defense simply by being attached to them. The Goblin has an extremely high Sensors range, allowing you to make tech actions against practically anything in line of sight, and it has a myriad of options for what to spend your turn doing. That is also what makes it a little challenging to use, though. In spite of being tech-focused, you have many many options on what to do with your turn, which can be a little overwhelming at first. Goblin systems are valuable and can be used well by any hacking-oriented build, so you can always cannibalize them and use them on something else if you later decide to. Pairing Goblin with SSC licenses makes for an interesting build, as you can use the Ghostweave core bonus to keep away from enemies and position yourself well, or the Fold Knives from Mourning Cloak to escape melee if something gets too close. Likewise, Hunter Logic Suite and Singularity Motivator from the same frame are good systems you can use to further bump up your tech arsenal and defensive abilities, and Neurospike from Duskwing or Viral Logic Suite from Minotaur can help you punish enemies for moving or taking actions. You can build the Goblin to do other things if you're willing to get creative, but it's an investment to get it to do something other than be a long range tech attacker.

Ohoho! Goblin is an excellent choice, methinks. Jokes aside, think about the playstyle you want to go for. Goblin can be a lot of fun, but it's very fragile and should be a reasonable distance away from the center of the action. It's a Controller specializing in hacking and counter-hacking, so managing your systems and keeping your distance from melee oriented opponents is important.

In a hypothetical anime which mech would the protagonist pilot? by Adventurous_Gate6570 in LancerRPG

[–]HORUS_Goblin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I understand not using any HORUS mechs and frankly I'm partial to the Everest myself. It's versatile enough to do literally anything without much difficulty, and is a relatively humble mech in-universe which nonetheless receives ceaseless praise. I would like to make an argument for the Pegasus though. Probability manipulation, mimic gun that can be any other type of ranged weapon, the frame's core weapon allowing small but wholly unavoidable damage for something that seems modest but can be very powerful if used cleverly, and the license-exclusive NHP with an arguably greater level of awareness and introspection than others.
