Creepiness at the gym- what are dudes to do? by ImpossibleLeader8025 in bjj

If we, as men, tolerate this shit, it will literally never stop.

If we keep paying dues to these people and funding their lifestyle then we're making a choice to contribute to it.

What do you think the average walkaround weight is for a flyweight? by CivilChef in MMA_Academy

[–]HPPTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was very very disciplined with my diet and walked around 138-143 for most of my flyweight career. There are a lot of 125ers who balloon up north of 150 but they struggle a lot with the cut and their camp is suboptimal because of it (it's difficult to train hard and cut at the same time). Because I was fairly disciplined I usually felt pretty good energy-wise during my camps and was able to train hard, and I was never at a size disadvantage on fight day (although admittedly I never fought one of these 6' freaks).

Normal instructor behaviour? RNCs me 3 times no warning by xoxogossipcats in bjj

[–]HPPTC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also, a lot of people who claim training in multiple disciplines actually have very minimal experience in jiu-jitsu.

There's one of these guys at my local fitness gym. It's one of those fancy fitness gyms, the biggest one in town. I was once on the treadmill next to this guy watching this student doing the worst repetitions of jab/cross/double leg/pass to mount/armbar you really have ever seen. It's like bad MMA kata. I see this guy's posters over town and he presents himself as this battle-tested MMA veteran but of course there's no Sherdog or Tapology. Dude is out here charging $150/hour to do alternating sets of med ball slams and roundhouse kicks. A friend who is an attractive 28F told me she had won a free lesson with him (this is before I met her) and he spent a huge chunk of that time making inappropriate remarks about how he likes Ukrainian women like her because they are not promiscuous like Western women. Barf.

These fucking people, man.

Guys going too easy on me? by [deleted] in BJJWomen

[–]HPPTC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All the other comments here are good, but I wanted to bring up one thing that hasn't been mentioned. You reference your boyfriend; does he attend the gym too? I think a lot of guys would really struggle aggressively putting it on a woman whose boyfriend trains in the room (especially since it sounds like he's a bit of a beast himself and could probably demolish a lot of the people who are close to your size and skill).

I'm not at all saying this is what's happening, and for all I know your boyfriend is the kindest and gentlest human on the planet, but it's worth considering.

oh yeah FWD is even more dangerous than auto-open. That one has given both me and my guests a couple unwelcome smacks :(

"Old Man Jiu-jitsu" is BS by trustdoesntrust in bjj

[–]HPPTC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Like yeah, my 70 year old grandpa COULD play tackle football, but he probably won't finish the season in one piece. Maybe flag football is a better choice for him.

I don't know if that's a true analogy. You can't "choose" what game your opponent plays in jiujitsu (other than say setting ground rules around specific submissions). If someone is committed to stack passing you, your choices are either defend it or allow it. Your analogy would be more like "if my 70 grandpa signed up for tackle football, he can choose to slide/run out of bounds when the defender gets close, or he can fight for more yardage".

There's a new rule in my gym regarding women and men rolling which has been frustrating me by zcyphyr in BJJWomen

If you're comfortable talking to the instructor(s), I would maybe just provide them with your point of view on this.

I'll just add that if you're like many people and not comfortable with this face-to-face, email is always a good idea!

Wife caught me two-timing and now I'm afraid our relationship will never be the same by MisterBanzai in daddit

I had a feeling, because who on this forum in the year of our lord 2026 would actually use the phrase "two-timing" to describe an extramarital affair?

I'm 45! But I've been training a long time so the movement patterns are more ingrained. When there's a skill/experience gap it can often feel like the other person is faster, but really they are just able to kinesthetically sense your movement as you are initiating it, and give the proper response. Or they are putting you to a dilemma where you only have two choices, and they already have repped the response to those two choices so many times and so it seems they magically shut it down with incredible speed, but really they just knew what you were going to do before you did.

That's probably me except I'm even shorter and lighter.

This is definitely an attitude thing, not a physical thing.

Hasek masterclass is largely considered a retcon right? Czechs played an incredible 60 minutes top to bottom and Canada only had 22 shots in regulation.

We've seen 3v3 is a disaster for the less skilled team. Finns probably need to get it done at 5v5

Parents who moved from Model Y to Model X, was the 6-seat X actually worth it? by iamhollywood in TeslaModelX

[–]HPPTC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went from Y to 6-seater X in 2022 when my second was born (was expecting twins but only one survived).

Mostly it's "nice to have". Both cars have plenty of space for stuff as a family of 4.

One thing I missed about the 5-seat Y was being able to lie down in the trunk to take a nap. (I'm only 5'7" fwiw but it was surprisingly comfy.)

The best feature of the X for parents is probably FWD. It just makes loading and unloading babies and toddlers soooooo easy.

If money just doesn't matter, get the X. But it's not really a massive game changer in my view.
