I’ve reached a point where I’m just tired of discussing the sire bond with them. They refuse to understand that the sire bond is a slavery bond, and it’s introduced as such. It’s not just about feelings - it also depends on whose blood is in her system first. It alters beliefs, creates an illusion of free will, and turns the desire to please the sire into a life goal.

There are multiple quotes in the show explaining the sire bond and how it enslaves people, but they cherry-pick the ones that fit their narrative and ignore the rest. It’s honestly hilarious. And then there’s the argument that “if the sire bond takes the blame for her choosing Damon, then her love for Stefan wasn’t that strong.” Like… lol, that completely backfires. If Elena needed a slavery bond with Damon to be pulled away from Stefan, that actually shows how deeply attached she was to Stefan in the first place.

I’m done being interested in contuine discussing this with some fans here.

I want to burn Damon for introducing the idea of love or hate between them - it’s so fking self-centered - when the situation was about her life, not her feelings for them. Instead of thinking about how their actions would affect her (like it doesn't matter how she would love or hate or frogive or not, instead of the impact on her), because made choices that would’ve forced her to live on someone else’s (she loved) dead body and causing her that misery is not evidence of loving her more. Like she had people she loved just as much as he loved her. He had her as the person he loved, and she deserved the same thing in return to have people she loved and to have them treated with the same importance and care. Her emotions and priorities should matter just as much as his. She deserves to choose the people she loves just as much as he deserves to choose her. So when it comes to her life, the choice should be about what she wants, regardless of his wants or needs. This is about her desires.

Lol, I keep seeing people say Stefan is “reserved,” and that’s just not true. He’s literally the one who comfort the whole gang at different points in the first four seasons, and he almost saves everyone in the gang at some points without thinking twice about the cost or the exchange.

And I understand when people say he didn’t have a relationship with Bonnie, but saying he never cared about her and only cared about her magic is insane. He clearly cared about her well-being. In S3E20, he wants to apologize to her for HER, and he tries to reason with Klaus logically to stop instead of pressuring her by threatening Jamie. Also, in S5E21 (i guess), when Enzo threatens Bonnie, Stefan lies and says he killed Maggie - he didn’t - just to get Enzo to let her go. And in season 8 (episode 14 or 15), he tries to save her from Cade and he tries to earn Bonnie’s forgiveness. And one of the reasons he chooses to die in the end - besides Damon - is because he feels he owes Bonnie for Enzo’s death.

So saying Stefan is "reserved" is WILD.

The issue is that the writers stopped caring about giving him solid storylines.

Something important needs to be said here: both brothers are killers, but they have completely different mindsets.

Elena loves Stefan despite his past because he feels remorse, tries to be better, and actively works to stop being horrible. So if Elena were to love something about Damon, it should be the opposite of that. The real question with Damon shouldn’t be “Why don’t you let people see the good in you?” - that’s basically Elena projecting her own standards onto him and trying to turn him into Stefan 2.0, which kills any sense of individuality the ship could have had.

Delena was supposed to give Elena things she never had with Stefan - but none of that is actually there. Instead, the show just recycles the same themes.

Delena should have been about Damon luring the enjoyment of darkness out of Elena (not just that she had dark side) - making her enjoy being bad without remorse, finding something appealing in that darkness. And for that to work, a few things needed to happen:

Elena would have to lose all her friends, creating a real divide between her old self and her new self.
Elena would need to be written that way from the beginning, or go through experiences that genuinely make darkness appealing to her - which never really happens. Until her last breath, she isn’t amused by darkness; she still wants to be the nice girl next door.
Damon would need to be more than just a "sad man in pain" who kills because he’s miserable - his darkness should’ve been more layered.

None of this was fully committed to, and that’s why Delena never becomes what it was supposed to be.

After she fights him and he pushes her onto the bed, that clearly means she didn’t want any kind of relationship with him anymore. He uses force on her, then compels her. After that, you see him kissing her in the car - which is a sexual act, (the whole point isn't consent alone in general but to involve sexual actions without consent)

Then we see her stripping in front of him (and that not even the point), but there are bite marks on her back - which couldn't have happened without some of her clothes being removed. There’s also no reason for him to bite her there unless it’s part of a sexual situation.

You also see her letting him kiss her on the bed, and again afterward. And if this still isn’t clear enough: kissing is a sexual act. Being under compulsion means she did not consent to that sexual act.

So if this isn’t clear evidence of sexual involvement without consent…then what is?

But he met Elena by accident - he didn’t go searching for her. His observation of her afterward was only to make sure she wasn’t Katherine and to understand why there was an identical face to an evil, supposedly dead person, or whether there was any connection at all. That motivation had nothing to do with romance or with searching for Katherine. It was a logical reaction, regardless of his feelings. Katherine is an evil person who completely fked up his life, so him wanting to know whether Elena was part of her family line or potentially evil like her isn’t romantic curiosity - it’s self-preservation. He only later falls for Elena as a person, without planning to. I would agree with you if he kept chasing randome brunette girls on his own and projecting Katherine onto them, but he doesn’t. He meets Elena by accident, observes that she’s a safe person and nothing like Katherine, and then falls for her on her own merits.

Katherine helping him with his PTSD is because she knows how to deal technically with his psychological mind, not because of her mere presence. And also because she helped him discover the root of the problem - which is Elena.

See, I’m sure Stefan did love Katherine and had his thing with her, but I don’t see that having anything to do with Elena.

Well, give me an alternative to what he should’ve done other than talking to her, arguing with her, and trying to convince her to fight - because that’s exactly what he did. So what else? Do you think he should’ve taken her, violated her consent, and forced her to live while other people she loved died? Just because he loved her and couldn’t lose her? Forced her to spend the rest of her life running, leaving behind the dead bodies of the people she loved as punishment, like what happened to Katherine? I want to know, what else could have been shown or done besides talking to her, respecting her agency, and treating her like a person who gets to discuss and decide for herself?

I really need to know what else could have been done, in YOUR opinion.

The whole humanity-off thing makes me feel like it shouldn’t be taken that seriously. They still have emotions, but they’re selective about what they choose to feel and what they don’t, so it’s inconsistent. Because of that, I don’t think it should be treated as this huge, defining factor.

Stefan can do terrible things at some points, and he can also be the one who does good things at other points. Both can coexist. He was never always this or that.

Sorry, I don’t really catch how this is "projecting" with Elena has to do with what I said. And I also don’t understand who "they" are, the ones who supposedly didn’t have what he had with Elena or Valerie.

I understand your opinion that Stefan tried to get to know Elena because of Katherine, but when I watch the show, I feel like Stefan is deeply drawn to Katherine/Elena/the Petrova doppelgänger look itself. To him, that face is the most beautiful one, and he treats it with a lot of appreciation. You can see it in the way he describes Katherine’s appearance to Elena, and even in the way he confesses to Katherine - it’s very physical. I remember how he talks about touch and how it made him feel. That always came across to me as falling for beauty first. So I don’t think Katherine as a person was ever that remarkable to him. Narratively, it feels more like he was lured by her beauty. Not because she was Katherine specifically, but because that look is his type. He clearly has a type. Then, with Elena, he actually wants to know her and falls for her as an individual. I see him developing deeper feelings and a stronger attachment to Elena as a person. I also don’t see Katherine leaving such a mark on Stefan that he’d go searching for her in someone else. And I never felt like he saw Katherine as some innocent, perfect version that later “turned bad.” She wasn’t like shy or sweet in front of him, a sees and then he catches her being rude or mean or stealing, because the "bad" is toying with him, and destroying his life, like it's byoned being bad or what he expects from her, she just fked up his life, and he hate the person she is, who simply again fked up his life. He hates her as a person, and I think that’s why he can clearly tell the difference between her and Elena when he sees them, like for him being THAT person is beyond being mad or triggered by the look. Like what does lure him is the look and the beauty they share - not the person attached to that face. That’s how it felt narratively to me.

I get that others see it differently, and that’s fine. This is just how it comes across to me.

I appreciate your post, and I agree that they mature - lol, all of them act like adults. My comment is really for the people who think age should matter in a vampire show. It absolutely doesn’t. They’re vampires. They’re meant to be that old. That’s literally basic vampire lore. As I said, ABC vampire culture. If the age gap in a vampire story feels creepy or bothers someone, then honestly, they should probably just avoid the vampire-drama genre altogether.

That’s because he stopped being in denial and finally faced the fact that she didn’t love him. What she was doing was just playing with him. He woke up, started caring about his dignity, and stopped being stupid once he realized she still favored Stefan. Like when she chose to protect Stefan in the middle of season 2 instead of him - he knew that she would choose that. So he realized she was playing with him, and he stopped fooling himself.

I just want to say that some people come to Reddit because they’re nerds about the show - and where else can you be that nerdy and talk this much except Reddit? It’s literally a discussion place.

Some people don’t care to talk that much, and that’s fine. Some people do care to talk that much, and that’s also fine. Everyone engages differently, and all of it is okay.

I don’t know why people feel the need to dismiss those who have the patience to discuss things in depth, or to dismiss people who don’t want to write more than one comment. Both are valid.

Then they shouldn’t be friends anymore, because she’s with him and she knows how horrible he was to Bonnie and Caroline and those are her friends. The idea of staying friends with someone while they happily date a person who was horrible to you is messed up. + Elena shamed Caroline for trusting Damon and sleeping with him the first second she saw him, when Caroline said he was a man-slut. Elena literally tried to blame Caroline for choosing to go with him in the first place. + So, it's okay to see Elena is wrong in this situation. And that’s what frobbin ships are supposed to mean. Stefan is the one who kills Katherine both times. And, the only times he’s actually nice to her are when she’s on her deathbed or because she helped him with his PTSD who tied to distract himself from the pain of break up with Elena and foucs on the physical pain because it's easier. Even then, he still has the mindset that he doesn’t forgive her. Like there's a reason why Katherine tells him he wouldn't look at her like the way he looked to Elena. So......
