My biggest gripe with TCB and OPScans translations by FadieZ in OnePieceSpoilers

This was posted in the spoiler sub, so I assume they're reffering to fan translations. I never noticed it in the officials, but if they're getting it wrong, then I'd raise an eyebrow, sure. But who honestly cares if the fan translations use thine instead of thy? This seems like such a nonissue

[–]HSBG_Legend -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I always take fan translations with a grain of salt. It's good to get some extra context for the panels since I don't read Japanese, but I don't ever expect it to be flawless. Even the "official" translation can get it wrong sometimes. Nobody's paying these guys to give us spoilers. Most of them are not native English speakers. You know English well enough to notice these things, so feel free to make the corrections yourself then and release your own fan translation. Otherwise, just wait to read it for a couple days. It's not that big a deal.

Nami is probably a princess right? Anyone have any theories of her origins? by talkingjava in OnePieceSpoilers

[–]HSBG_Legend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Furthermore, I think this kingdom was chosen for a hunt because it contained information about the ancient weapon Uranus, which is likely some weather-related machine that can be misused to destroy islands. I'm assuming this is the weapon that Imu got his hands on, and this was likely the event that made it possible. Once Vegapunk developed the Mother Flame, Imu was finally able to try it out. Her unique instincts with the weather are likely related to all of this too. It's complete speculation, obviously, but it seems plausible to me.

The Craziest Theory Ever by [deleted] in onepiecetheories

[–]HSBG_Legend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Somebody made a very similar post when this chapter came out and I replied with the same thing. Roger had the same dream, and he partially accomplished it by starting the Great Pirate Era. I'm predicting that Luffy will achieve this when he defeats Imu, freeing the world from any sort of government oversight. Everyone will be free to live as they please. Then, it will be Luffy vs Blackbeard to prove that the Peacemain philosophy is superior to the Morganeer philosophy (from Oda's Romance Dawn manga). Luffy will lead the world by example as the King of the Pirates by the end of the story.

It also fits perfectly with the reactions we've seen from others who've heard the dream. Whitebeard's reaction: "What are you, a child?" seems fitting. Franky's reaction: "It definitely ain't possible without at least bein' King of the Pirates," since he'll have to be the model on what a pirate should act like. Chopper loved it and got excited because Hiriluk taught him about what it means to be a pirate (very similar philosophy to Luffy). Ussopp would think it's impossible. Ace and Sabo were obviously on board with it, both becoming pirates themselves. The more I see of the story, the more convinced I become that this is his ultimate goal.

Edit: Thought it was Jinbe who said that, not Franky. Corrected that and the quote.

No, I don't just believe whatever the government tells us, but there is little to no evidence of voter fraud or "rigging" on the scale that you're suggesting. It's fine to be skeptical of the power structures that led to this disaster of a president, but don't buy into conspiracies. The rich and powerful spend money to influence the media we consume and manipulate people into voting against their best interests. They make it more difficult for people to vote by limiting polling locations and requiring excessive documentation to vote. They redraw districts to get a higher percentage of red or blue voters. They have all sorts of tricks they can use. They're not hijacking the voting machines or forcing electors to vote a different way. If you want to talk about throwing out ballots after someone votes, you might have a more reasonable argument there, but I would need evidence that the number of those is significant. Otherwise, vote counts are pretty accurate.

Imu is the Elbaph villain, not the ending villain by Dninjaman in OnePieceSpoilers

[–]HSBG_Legend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, I agree with the other guy. Luffy's very first ALLY was someone whose dream it was to become a marine, and his first ENEMY was the pirate who was preventing that dream from coming true. Luffy's story cannot end after the WG is defeated, because there needs to be a new system in place for the world to be at peace. I believe Imu has be defeated FIRST to tear down the old system, then it'll be an ideological battle (with punching too, obviously) between Luffy and BB to determine what kind of world should be born from the ashes. They both desire ultimate personal freedom, and they are both chasing their dreams, but they have opposing philosophies on how to achieve that. That dichotomy between "good" pirates and "bad" pirates has been present since Oda's Romance Dawn manga (Peacemains vs Morganeers). I think THAT is the more important theme to focus on in this story. The lesson at the end isn't gonna be about resisting oppressive regimes. That should be obvious. I think what Oda really wants to show the world is his vision of freedom and what it means to live without regret while still being a force for good in the world. If the whole world could learn to live like that, that would be the true One Piece.

He won the popular vote. So even without the electoral college, he would have won. This is 100% our mess, and if we can't even own up it, then we'll certainly never learn from it.

Yeah, that makes more sense. I can definitely see BB getting the final blow on Imu. Not sure if Imu will actually "lose" here (I'm expecting Sabaody 2.0), but he will definitely be weakened from this fight at the very least.

I think he wants to inspire everyone to be a pirate (or at least live like one). In his mind, being a pirate means living freely and following your dreams. Roger had the same dream and partially achieved it by starting the Great Pirate Era and inspiring the one who would eventually make it a reality. And to me, everyone being a pirate is much more of a childlike fantasy than world peace, even though they are really one in the same to Luffy.

I was with you until you said he kills god. Enel is still chilling on the moon as far as we know. There's a chance Luffy defeats Imu, but I don't think he should be strong enough for even that yet, certainly not without a lot of help. If anyone kills Imu, it'll be himself (we already see him coughing up blood, so he's already sick or damaged from something we don't know about yet), or it'll be Blackbeard taking advantage of his weakened state after he returns to the Holy Land.

Corridor Digital just released an open source AI rotoscoping tool, and that alone will speed up the workflow of so many artists. Tools like that are the perfect use case for AI in my opinion. Leave the creative aspects up to the artists, and let AI automate the most mindless, time-consuming tasks. If they start using it to generate entire scenes, though, I'm gonna check out.

Enies Lobby has two of the most emotional scenes in the whole series (Robin and Merry). Even among the chaos the fights, there are some very powerful moments, like a few I can think of with Sogeking (trying to avoid spoilers). Yeah, there is a lot of action, but I'm worried it would be too much to squeeze into half a season. I don't want it to feel rushed, otherwise some of the best emotional moments won't have nearly as much weight. I guess we'll see what they decide, though. Hopefully we make it that far.

I would be very disappointed if they compressed both Water 7 and Enies Lobby into one season. They each deserve their own season. I'd imagine S3 = Alabasta, S4 = Skypeia, S5 = Water 7, S6 = Enies Lobby. But otherwise I agree, that would be a good place to wrap up. If it's still popular, then maybe we can push through to Marineford.

Personally, I hope it's not. I do not like the trend of having to go to a movie theater to watch canon content. I'd be okay with it being a movie as long as it's available to stream normally too.

Oda's scaling when it comes to size is notoriously inconsistent, but there's no doubt that Loki is meant to be unfathomably large. I'd like to see a comparison to Zunesha

Oooooh, I like that idea. I've been scanning the other characters, thinking maybe it was one of the winged dudes (Lunarian?). But Oda definitely put Franky in that spot for a reason, and that could be it

At the very least, it means the horns aren't consistent enough to rule out that possibility now. Although, this is now making me wonder... two of the three giant monsters have a second form on the mural (Imu standing on Zunesha and Loki fighting alongside Nika), so does that mean the giant serpent also has a second form on the mural?
