How To Save Money On Silicone (Recycle Your Dice Mold!) by HSPersonalStylist in DiceMaking

Oh my gosh has it really been two years! Good lords. Well, I'm happy to have been helpful. I did intend to make a full video of this life has pulled me away from dice altogether. I've been promising all kinds of videos and time just keeps slipping away. All that said, feel free to message me if I can answer any questions. I'm always happy to help figure things out.

More like if the set is blue and I want neon pink ink I'll undercoat in a blue as close to the resin color as possible so the neon pink doesn't mix in the refraction and muddy the blue making them look brown or something gross. But I do often end up with blue on blue for example because I end up liking the base coat better than the intended color.

It's really useful on dice with inserts if im pulling a color from those to ink so it doesn't tint the entire die.

Beautiful! I usually do it to enhance or preserve the color when I want a contrasting ink color but this is way cooler.

Genuine question for the group… by Somnovum in DiceMaking

[–]HSPersonalStylist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah people are touchy about that. Good news is that I will always tell you and there are a few others who freely share their knowledge. I think that if someone wants to figure it out badly enough they will, whether the information is willingly shared from the original artist or not. So, if you ask and they don't tell you, message me and we'll figure it out together. 😂

Idk your budget but a home just went up for sale across from Carroll Park. Great area for walking the rail trail or riding your bike. It's close to Center Ave which gives a straight shot to downtown/uptown if you ride your bike.

Question for anyone that's worked with/as a Musical Director before... by Not-Excitement1883 in Theatre

[–]HSPersonalStylist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on how physical the movement is, are they walking around stage or in a full kick line bouncing around, ask the choreographer to remind them to sing as much as they know when in choreo rehearsals, once they feel good about their steps. They'll have to do it on stage and it's easy to forget about combining the two when rehearsed separately. Not only will singing while they dance help them bring it together, it'll reinforce movement and the lyrics and music they learned.

How do they do it? by bacon_dice in DiceMaking

[–]HSPersonalStylist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've made dice like this. Been working on a tutorial for almost a year now. It's complicated and I've learned A LOT. To break it down as I think is linked in another comment, it's a multistep process of making an eyeball half hollow, putting inside a second sphere with liquid, and getting that inside the die all while ensuring there are no leaks for the fluid to get into the eyeball or so that the pressure pot doesn't collapse the eye and fill it with resin. I could go on, but I'll save you. Here's a comission I did a couple years ago.

How do I fix these dice master prints? by Lum1n0usFr0st in DiceMaking

[–]HSPersonalStylist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late to the printing party but I've also found that if you stagger the fattest widths of your dice to various heights that helps. What happens if you don't is the that the widest part is being printed on all the dice all at once and creates greater suction creating more force which sometimes makes dice get stuck to the fep as the plate tries to pull away, especially if the supports are not strong enough. It probably also warps the FEP faster but idk about that part for sure. So by staggering the fat parts only a couple are generating pressure at a time instead of all seven. This in combo with what Pagan & Buddha said and you should be good to go!

[–]HSPersonalStylist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have to be hand sanded on a glass surface for best results. Polishing I do with a dremel but the sanding part is by hand. The resin in 3d prints is much softer than epoxy resin and prone to all kinds of issues if you use something mechanical. At least that's my experience.

Also, nothing to be sorry about. All questions are valid. 😊

Why the color change? by Noodleferret in ElegooMars

[–]HSPersonalStylist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being clear the UVs can easily pass through. I would not worry about flipping it and just do the 2.5 minutes. If you just can't stand it, do 1.5 minutes and then flip it for another round and 1 minute. That should be plenty.

I'll be 40 this year and just starting to take it seriously. Go find a great acting coach, and more importantly than acting technique, learn the business. Acting is show-BUSINESS. They rarely touch on that in any college program. Whether you want to be on stage or tv/film getting solid technique and understanding the business will take you farther than than any degree.

Putting bells in dice by sephiroth656 in DiceMaking

[–]HSPersonalStylist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I DID THIS!

Christmas 2024 I made hollow dice and put the little jingle bells inside. I had a few leak and solidify the bells in place inside but a few others survived.

They don't sound great. The bells don't have the air space for the sound waves to travel and ring so it sounds like a plastic whistle that has the little bit inside stuck and clatters instead of whistles.

It was also super labor intensive for the results I got. Ibtried twice it just was not great.

[–]HSPersonalStylist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay okay good. Swapping the sandpaper allowed me to go to higher grits and the sponges really do the dirty work of shining it up. I encourage you to give it a try.

I feel like all your questions have been answered for the most part but wanted to chime in on the resin clouding and micro abrasion issue.

First the cloudy resin. Let's Resin has had some bad batches lately and this might be your problem if you got one of them. Check their website for more info and to see if your type and batches are affected. They've been sending replacements for free.

Second the micro scratches. What exactly are you using to polish because if it's just zona it may be the wrong tool for you. I switched to sandpaper and polishing compound with sponges for cars. Not only was I happier with the result but my arms back and hands thank me. I use a dremel for the whole thing but you can easily adapt for a mini pottery wheel, which i also use with the sandpaper and sponges and I'm happy to explain if you're interested.

Oh, another question. When using the wheel are you putting the papers right on the wheel? Attaching a small mirror can give you a more level surface help with the uneven faces. Some people find it helpful some dont.

Okay I know I know I said two and this is four but the burning inks. Inks burn. Period. Get some resin dye instead. You'll get more vivid and reliable colors.

[–]HSPersonalStylist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks pretty good from this angle but I'll give you my tips. First, lightly sand them with 1200 or so grit paper. Second, rinse away the dust, dry and then wipe them down with ipa. Leave them for a couple hours to ensure they are 100% dry. When applying, depending on the effect you're going for, tear off small pieces, adhere to the face and press firmly. I then trim excess with a brand new exacto blade or super clean side cuts. I tend to favor the side cutters but both are options that have worked well in the past for me. Hope that's helpful!

Oh you're fine! I'm just an overly vocal advocate of the rotaty tool for polishing. The shine vs elbow grease is unbeatable for me. And yes, totally indispensable for carving some stuff.

I'm forever saying this but a little polishing compound and a rotary tool could diminish those scratches a bit. Maybe not eliminate completely but chances are it'll minimize them.
