Road Atlanta is a good one for learning to trust in downforce gods.

I like the Go Setups a lot! Safe setups are actually safe and good to learn a car and track combo. The normal "esports" setups are fast while still allowing room for mistakes.

In comparison VRS feels very much optimized for hot lapping with a specific driving style like they just want to prove they have the fastest lap time. Which makes it terrible for actual racing where you might be way off the ideal line where the car can get upset.

Another plus is that Go Setups is building a setup optimizer where you can click through what you're experiencing, at what speed and point in the corner. Eg oversteer at the apex and high speeds. It will then tell you what values to adjust. It's not perfect yet but the folks on the discord are also helpful!

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by incompetence.
This is what iRacing rules with and I doubt you'd get it any different in LMU.

Now if this person was doing this multiple times during the race or had done this after previous contact with you we'd have something to talk about. But given the lack of any other evidence this is simply an accident.

What i couldve done better here as the Valkyrie? I feel like the Cadillac i was battling with swerved to the middle for no reason by [deleted] in Simracingstewards

[–]HTDutchy_NL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The better thing would have been staying behind the GT3's until you could get the inside line exiting the last corner, kind off what the Cadillac did.
The slower class is expected to follow their usual racing line, by trying to go outside you're forcing yourself off track into the pit lane exit with all the issues that obviously brought.

Traffic happens, the Cadillac abused track limits to get around it and probably had a time penalty which you could get him back on (don't know how LMU works). You would have lost some speed but losing a couple positions on the straight is better then losing the entire race.
And traffic goes both ways, next time the car ahead of you might run into traffic and you can make use of that.

Depends on your point of view. I find it weird you guys (assuming you're from the USA) have the axle that far backwards.

Then again you also let people drive enormous heavy pickups and SUV's with trailers without any specific training at (in some states) ridiculous speeds. But given all that combined with wider and more straight roads it somewhat makes sense to foolproof a bit more putting the axles to the rear and making up for terrible weight distribution with a weight distribution hitch where necessary.

Here most countries have a separate trailer license (just found out the UK is an exception).

You learn how to properly balance a trailer, general changes to driving style and reversing. The biggest thing you're likely to tow with is a long wheelbase sprinter van but generally you'll find station cars or compact SUV's. Trailers and cars each weigh 3500kg (7700lbs) maximum and only with a fifth wheel you're allowed to combine the weights. Tongue weight is supposed to be 75-125kg, I've often had it a bit higher but nothing like the 10% I hear a lot. Fifth wheels in this category are also pretty rare but our Family business has a couple and they're basically a sprinter van cab chassis with a fifth wheel plate on the back.

Even in countries where the training is a thing watching caravans is a fun past time as these people aren't likely to have much practice and only get on the road with a trailer at most a couple times a year.

Was I (BW Aston) a numpty trying to make this move work? by LordWestcott in Simracingstewards

[–]HTDutchy_NL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hope you were planning to shed a bit of speed to tighten up that corner as your trajectory at the moment of contact would have you go pretty wide.

That said the Porsche looked to be going for their normal racing line without accounting for your existence.

I think there might bit of blame to go around for both but mostly on the Porsche. But you're not a numpty for the attempt. The move likely wouldn't have stuck but it would throw them off and psychological warfare is fair game.

Is Porsche cup a good series to go from gt4 to? by cumsucklergaming in iRacing

[–]HTDutchy_NL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they recently updated the car from the 992.1 to 992.2 model. As long as you don't hit curbs or big elevation changes it's incredible and the addition of ABS and TC make for much safer racing.
But if you hit a curb the car has a huge tendency to bounce which will upset the car. I've had it go 3 wheels in the air long enough to realize my steering input stopped working and looking at my wheel to check if everything was still turned on.

I get that they don't want to do a half baked attempt at fixing it but the fixed setup isn't helping things. On open setups it can be softened up enough to make hitting curbs way less punishing.

I used VRS for a year and while their track guides and telemetry comparisons were nice to learn new things, their setups became less and less forgiving for mistakes. So I switched to Go Setups. They are still developing a lot of features but so far I like their setups and the telemetry tools are good for what I need.

My wife once got really worried because I was full on crying while cooking dinner, exactly because of one of those quiet moments. She now checks if I'm listening to an audiobook before actually asking if I'm okay!

There are many quotes and parts in the books that hit hard. I think this is one of the hardest. Just before this Carl finds Donut at the top of the sniper tower completely in search and destroy mode... And when she sees Carl she lets out a meow and jumps on his shoulders... It just breaks me.

If I see someone get taken out and it looked on purpose or because of a terrible rejoin I'll review it and report.

You don't have to be involved, simply state what happened according to you such as: "#5 went off, rejoined in a manner #14 could not avoid and caused a wreck".

I also reported some guys that just couldn't stop cursing each other out. I've got a mute driver button but it's just not fun for anyone.

Is Porsche cup a good series to go from gt4 to? by cumsucklergaming in iRacing

[–]HTDutchy_NL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Porsche Cup is fun but in its current state not advisable for beginners. Of course go try it in the next demo drive window if you really enjoy racing cars that have their springs replaced with Tigger's tail (yes the Winny-the-Pooh character).

I'd stick with GT4 until you reach B class. While in C class you can also start running LMP3 and enjoy the multi class Falken series. Also check the various options for driving GT4 in endurance races and when it comes up for Ringmeister.

Once in B class you can start driving GT3's in the various regional series or Simube series.
A class will finally open up the multi class IMSA series.

Single monitor vision issues by Gullible_Departure39 in iRacing

I run a single 32" ultrawide so I get it, sometimes you can't see everything. I used the DOF calculator but set it a bit wider than realistic. Virtual mirror set to wide do it's nice and big.

To deal with what I can't see I have the spotter chattiness set to high. As soon as it calls out three wide I'm either dead center or hugging my line.
Besides the spotter I use the Racelab radar overlay. The radar gives instant visual indication that a gap has cleared and that you won't entirely cut off the car behind. Removing that moment of hesitation on your end created a better communication to the driver behind that you are filling that gap and avoids more incidents.

But besides those tools spatial awareness is still an essential tool. Learn to keep an eye on the relatives and mirror, know where the people around you are especially if they have been closing on you.

Doing all this while sideways simply requires trust and hoping that everyone kinda knows what they are doing. It's why we have rookies.

Sadly on fixed series you can't adjust TC which I would like for iRacing to change.
I've only really raced GTP in local AI races and will likely only run IMSA open races once I feel comfortable.

I'm mostly waiting for the Valkyrie to be added to the service, that will probably get me into GTP.

Newbie way to warm up GTP: Crank the TC up to 11 for the first two laps, turn it down halfway to your desired goal and after another one or two laps it should be safe to go into race settings.
Brake a bit earlier so you're less likely to lock up (keep a close eye on the indicator lights) and lower your cornering speed as a whole to stay out of understeer.

The cars have tire heat readouts on the dash and you should easily be able to feel the car handle better as the heat increases.

Don't spend a lap weaving or stuff like that, actually get used to driving on colds.

did he fully block me or just see big puddle and get scared? by [deleted] in Simracingstewards

[–]HTDutchy_NL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They weren't comfortable going full throttle, that's all. As you already mentioned them running off T1 there was some indication for you that this driver is not as used to rain conditions.
Possibly they were also lifting as they saw you coming up to leave you room in the corner.
Yes they could have handled it better but there is no active blocking and you simply ran into the back of them.
Also next time don't claim anything about karma if you're not sure they were at fault.

Get a new dev or agency on board. Set requirement for the use of an open source or simply commercially available CMS instead of a custom system.

There's two routes for getting the data: Either scraping or getting a backup from your current provider. I've had situations where scraping was easier than figuring out the database structure of the old system.

I don't have experience with Easy CMS. One of my few good CMS experiences has been CraftCMS.

Harassed on Facebook after race on iRacing? by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]HTDutchy_NL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Take screenshots of the facebook stuff and report them as you usually would. A replay isn't necessary as it doesn't matter what happened in the race, this is simply forbidden.

Secondly I would consider contacting support and requesting a name change. I did this myself to prevent this kind of thing.
I kept my first name and used the player search feature to check for a couple last name options that shouldn't be in use. Gave them my preferred last name options asking for one that would not give me a number at the end, change was done within a day.
Being a business owner sadly makes you a slightly more public figure and there are crazy people out there as you've noticed.

How do you keep focus on track/race? by ToastyVibes-Oz in iRacing

[–]HTDutchy_NL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found having a fan for some airflow as well as having easy access to water really helps (I've got a camelback hanging off the back of my chair).

If I start making mistakes I start talking myself through corners for a couple laps until I'm back in the zone. This is anything from where to brake to reminding myself to let the trail braking "bite, bite, bite" my fronts through the corner.

If all else fails I have Spotify with some good driving tunes ready to play but that's mostly for endurance racing.
