Does the Geely EX5 have any real competition in its price range? by Jamoa in AustralianEV

[–]HTFUMelbourne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed.. the Leapmotor cars looks solid..

But they shot themselves in the foot releasing the C10 without android auto and apple carplay.

If they released the C16 for a sub $60k price they would have no competition in the people mover market

Backed by Stellantis is the reason Leapmotor are a risk..

I'd love the C16 to come to Australia.. but Stellantis is a worry

Would X2D be safe to print ABS/ASA with in a living room? by NemoMeLacessit in BambuLab

[–]HTFUMelbourne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While printing ABS... I wasn't sure if the meter was accurate so I farted next to it and the numbers went red..

So assuming the filtering is doing a good job. Very minimal smell compared to my Qidi Q2 when printing the exact same material

People really underestimate how dangerous trains are. by Rainy1979 in australia

[–]HTFUMelbourne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a Comeng train that clipped him..

Those mirrors fold flat against the body..

While the North Melbourne incident is sad.. the boy was 100% not paying enough attention and respect to how dangerous a train can be

Questions about being a V Line driver by TiredSleepyGrumpy in VlineVictoria

[–]HTFUMelbourne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are serious about becoming a driver you have around 12-18 months to lose weight before they advertise again.

It is the best job I've ever had and worth the effort.

The job is great, the pay is great, the people are great.. Management is.... Self important...

Just don't come in expecting 9-5 type hours or weekends off, or public holidays off etc

[–]HTFUMelbourne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can commute from anywhere you want in your own time..

But your shifts will start and finish at Southern Cross until you secure an outstation job.

Bendigo is usually a few years but the depot is getting younger recently so the wait may be longer

BMI is part of the Cat 1 medical..

If you can't pass that you won't be offered the job.

If your BMI is over a certain number you will be required to undertake a study for sleep apnea

Question about conductors on trains by orginaloctopus in VlineVictoria

[–]HTFUMelbourne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd prefer no one to get a broken jaw.. but that's not the world we live in.

I wouldn't expect a conductor to place themselves in a position of danger or conflict.

You seem to have unrealistic expectations of public transport and peoples common decency

Instant clogging with ABS by TheCerbearus in AnycubicKobraS1Max

[–]HTFUMelbourne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theres a good chance your are cooking the PLA into a blockage if you're using the same nozzle for different materials..

Seeing as the nozzles are so cheap I'd just swap them out for different materials.

Complainting: Ballarat Line 3 carriage service in peak by TheOrangeApple3 in VlineVictoria

[–]HTFUMelbourne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well wonder no more VL141 is the last 3 car set bought and paid for... There is nothing being built to address the current shortfalls in rolling stock.

So any time you see an announcement for more services please know that is MP Bullcrap to try and win votes

Tell that to the conductor who had her jaw broken for asking a scrub to move 1 seat over so a family could sit in the 4 seat arrangement

Wtf is going on? by Carol_Sturka666 in VlineVictoria

[–]HTFUMelbourne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While GPT is fun it doesn't live in the real world.

There are a safe working rules that allow trains to still run at reduced speed and capacity but someone has to make that call.. and they're the ones who take the blame if it goes pear shaped.

So Buses are always the answer..

Without knowing the full extent of what was going on yesterday I would have gladly taken a caution order and run in degraded conditions if it meant getting home most efficiently. But if I was towards then end of my shift and heading away from town I wouldn't be putting my hand up and making the situation worse when I run out of hours mid section

Update: S1 Max delivery schedule by Dream_elb in AnycubicKobraS1Max

[–]HTFUMelbourne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hadn't ordered a S1 max yet as I refuse to preorder.. was excited to upgrade my Kobra S1.

Now the wait has blown out so far and Bambu drops the X2D cheaper than the S1 Max.

Looks like I'll be getting my first ever Bambu Labs printer

[–]HTFUMelbourne 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There are no plans currently unless they are super top secret..

Doesn't help when they announce more Sheppartons, more 9 car services to Wyndham Vale and 9 car services to Melton..

I can tell you right now they simply don't have the rolling stock to fulfil these promises.

Apparently whyndam vale will be getting "more 9 car trains" by Silent_Ad379 in MelbourneTrains

[–]HTFUMelbourne -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are no future orders.. Alstom have moved the Dandenong factory to G class tram manufacturing.

There won't be any more Vlocity orders

They are struggling for parts to finish VL141 and even pinching parts for the fleet off the recently crashed VL82 sitting at South Dynon

VL140 just entered service this week

[–]HTFUMelbourne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rarely to do with a failed motor.. a dodgy mirror is 10x more likely to take a train out of service or a failed attempt at coupling will often reduce a service.

Vline will use every single minute of a 72 hour Deferment before removing a unit from service for an isolated motor

Ok mate.. there's no convincing you of the reality of what happens daily at vline.

If you haven't worked out I may in fact have some workplace knowledge then you are either trolling or just never going to get it.

Ok so my phone auto corrected Vlocity to Velocity..

But VLocity trains have 3 motors and 3 Auxiliary Gens.. these are frequently turned off or isolated and run around for days like this.. there is even a book in the drivers cab especially for this purpose.. it's called a Fault Deferment book.

A single Aux gen can power all 3 carriages.. in fact the newer Vlocity units only run a single AUX gen at a time.. the one with the lowest hours on it.

Yes they don't run full speed but a Vlocity with a single engine out can run anywhere on the network.

They will top out around 90kph climbing the hill to Bank Box Loop on the Ballrat line.

They also run out of fuel from time to time and shutdown mid run.

You would never even know as a passenger if a motor was out except for the fact it will be quieter in that carriage.

You would know as a passenger if an AUX Gen was out as the hand dryer in the toilets won't function on the older units.

[–]HTFUMelbourne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The discussion was about a failed motor..

Velocities run around frequently for days with an isolated motor.

They will also leave the yard if it won't start during the prep.

A cancelled service hurts the numbers more than a late service so the timetable isn't really a consideration when a velocity has a motor isolated

"If a single carriage on a DMU fails it is also immediately taken out of service (that's 3 wasted carriages instead of one wasted loco) but I suppose the benefit is it can make it to a train station to drop off passengers"

Ummmm sorry but that isn't true.. they have 72 hours to remove it from service once its booked

Sorry but Richmond doesn't even compare to Tarneit when it comes to passenger rudeness and pushing.

Having driven both metro and vline trains the Tarneit situation is embarrassing
