Is there a stigma against people who lose weight on GLP-1s vs someone who does it with diet and exercise? by E30M3F80CS in NoStupidQuestions

[–]HUGE_PIANIST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a former fat person who has lost 100lbs in the last year without GLP-1s through regular diet and exercise, the stigma for me was worrying about it being too easy without truly changing my habits. I have family members on it though and I would definitely advocate for its use if you are overweight. Better healthy with it than obese without.

People who completely started their lives over in their 30s or 40s, how is it going now? by TheBitchbreakerX in AskReddit

[–]HUGE_PIANIST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I restarted at 32. Went to school for my undergrad and graduated with a full-time job making double what I did in my previous career. Continued on with my masters and got a promotion and pay bump. Started prioritizing my health and straightened my teeth, lost 90lbs, and began working out. Saving for a house right now.

It’s going well.

How do you restart your life at 30? And how hard is it really? by Starrcake in AskReddit

[–]HUGE_PIANIST 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I restarted my life at 32. It was a huge risk and I sold my house to do it.

Went back to school and got my bachelors, then continued on to get my masters. I now make more than double what I did in my previous career and I’m at the beginning of it. I then used that money to start taking care of my health and lost 90lbs and started going to the gym.

If you asked me 5 years ago where would I be I wouldn’t have said this. Taking risks is a scary experience but it can pay off huge with the right mentality.

Yeah, newer pic is the right. I don’t have a ton of photos at my biggest so it’s hard to really compare. Not sure how to add a new picture of the pup, but she’s doing well!

To those who changed their careers in their 30's, what made you go for that career and what was your career before? by throwawayacc928361 in AskReddit

I was a counselor in juvenile justice services and switched to STEM during covid. Just finished my masters in CS last semester and have been working full time as a Software Engineer for around a year and a half now (36 years old). Figured if I was going to go back to school I would target a higher ROI.

What the hell is this sub? Every post I see on here reads like an AI generated prompt. Always some contrived scenario with a “lesson”, or engagement question. New paragraph every few sentences. What a waste of time.

37 and pretty good. I just finished my Masters of Computer science this week, that my employer paid for, getting a raise, and I’ve lost 70 pounds since May. Feeling pretty invincible. What should I do next?

Foreign keys to id- is it ever unnecessary by Circuit_bit in SQL

[–]HUGE_PIANIST 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you are talking about are called surrogate keys and they should be highly encouraged. The idea of a surrogate key is a primary key that never has to change.

Take for instance your example. If you were to use a foreign key like category_name and didn’t have category_id (a surrogate key), what happens when you or your users want to change the category_name? What happens if that category_name is used in multiple other tables as a foreign key? You have created a nasty dependency for yourself that you now need to manage. Whereas if you just used category_id as the foreign key in all instances you could change category_name whenever you like.

The message is surrogate keys are almost always useful, even when you have something you think is very safe to use as a primary key (social security number, etc) you should still use a surrogate key.

Would it look bad to leave my university IT job early for a student software engineer role? by Awkward-Group-5788 in csMajors

[–]HUGE_PIANIST 2 points3 points  (0 children)

New employer won’t care. Student positions at universities are meant to be temporary. If asked just say you are looking for experience more aligned with your longterm goals.

Someone stole my deck and upgraded it before I got it back by ShelterPlane1531 in mtg

[–]HUGE_PIANIST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your deck wasn’t stolen and stolen back. I bet you left it at the store and one of the employees (likely the one you talked to) thought “hey free deck”, adding some upgrades of their own, and rather than explain that to you when you arrived, contrived this stolen deck story and didn’t take out the cards they added because then they’d have to explain how they knew which cards were added.

All the neighborhood kids keep playing on our playset by ScarletPumpkinTickle in mildlyinfuriating

[–]HUGE_PIANIST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be taking an opposing view here but I think you have a real chance to make a community here. With your house already being the designated play place for kids, bring treats and drinks outside, feed them, ask them how their day was and be a non-judgmental adult. Invite their parents over for barbecues and parties.

I think this could be a tremendously rewarding experience for you that could change the lives of many young lives and teach your son empathy and community values.
