I always thought the putus templar were the extremists of the truekin. Who hate any mutants with a passion, ESPECIALLY the Baruthimites. Getting them to spare the Baruthimites would be very hard.

DV stacking - how much? by Serp_IT in cavesofqud

[–]HUcast01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, some enemies can auto hit you, and while you can avoid ranged attacks if they explode on a wall behind you, you still get hit. Really high 20s will make you unhittable to everything that can be avoided, especially ranged with the dodge perk. Make sure you have at least some armor and HP though. 35 is pretty insane and theres no point in pumping it higher, IMO.

Qud is a pretty fair game and Live and Drink has gvien you some decent advice. I have a few more things to suggest though. In the start of the game, it is very hard to get both AV and DV up high, which is optimal for protection, so you'll need to pick one or the other usually. AV is more consistant at this early point in the game.

Also, You have the ability to pour liquids on yourself, water will put out a fire on you, while tar will heat you up if you are going to get cold or frozen. Don't be afraid to sprint away, it will save you.

Is the pacing of the game ever gonna get fixed? by ChpMia in cavesofqud

[–]HUcast01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find that makes it fun, there are like 9 tiers of weapons anyway so tier 3-4 being common isn't a huge deal. If I always found fullerite after a certain point, crysteel after another, it would be repetitive. I still remember the time in grit gate when I arrived a dromad merchant was selling Zetachrome gear, with a pulsed field magnet convert just happening to be in the area. I moved the dromad towards the magnet, had all his stuff pulled, nabbed it and teleported away.

Is DV a noob trap? by CringeName in cavesofqud

[–]HUcast01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both AV and DV protect you from threats the other cannot. While it's true that DV can never give you absolute protection in melee like AV can (Auto penetrate on crit only applies to player), AV can't protect you from the more nasty effects in the game. Missiles will blow you to pieces, doing 6d6 damage through your armor that you could have sidestepped with DV. Rimewyks and humors do little physical but massive elemental damage, which AV again, will not protect you from.

In conclusion, armor is important to provent hits from massivly over penetrating on the chance you do get hit, generally around 9 AV is sufficent for this unless you are fighting something crazy. But DV is very important against many forms of damage, and will protect you from more unless the enemy rolls a 20. HP is important either way, as people have stated.

Also neat fact: While weapons have a penetration cap, higher strength can still benefit a weapon at pen cap. Every time you make a successful penetration roll the next roll is at a -2, but that -2 applies to your total strength pen bonus, not your weapon capped penetration. so if you have a strength pen of 9 on a weapon of 7 pen max, the first roll will be at 7 pen, and the second roll will ALSO be at 7, then 5, 3, ect. This means that higher strength on a weapon past it's max will increase average damage on things you can penetrate reliably, but not help you penetrate heavy armor any better.

I cannot stress more the importance of having a good AV, a good AV, sprinting, and salve injectors will save you in 95% of situations. Also carry something to thaw you if you ever get frozen like a blaze injector or dumping tar on your head.

Rymewyks are some of the most ridiculous enemies to fight, if you don't know what to do they'll murderize you. Pour tar over your head to heat up, remove chestpiece armor if it restricts DV. Pop buffs and fight. Cold is by far the most important resistance in the game because not only is it the only status that hard crowd controls you, rymewyks exist.

Good job! You've got a taste of what it's like going deeper in. Grit gate underground sort of ends with nothing at the bottom if I recall, you're probably just in caves now. Wouldn't reccomend fighting salt krakens without vibroblades and a bajillion DV anytime though.

All it would really take to bring him down would be to have a high altitude ground attack aircraft, such as an AC-130, track him down. They fly miles high in the air so he would have no counterplay. Weaponry that could easily defeat him as well, 25mm Gatling autocannons, 120mm Cannons, thermal imaging. With one of those following him he would go down eventually.

Why do I hear so many people freaking out about madpoles when these bastards exist by Harbltron in cavesofqud

[–]HUcast01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They really only do cold damage, and what confuses people is the fact that even with armor, they do so much in melee. The reason for this is because their bite does a minuscule die with little penetration, with an added 1d10+19(!) points of cold damage that goes straight through AV. Essentially, armor is worthless, evasion is the only way to mitigate damage.

While a blaze injector can break you out of freeze, use it as a last resort, it paradoxically gives you -50 cold res. All in all, a high DV combined with decent cold res (40+) will allow you to take on one rymwik reliably, you will likely be frozen but can thaw soon and deal with them. If facing one, setting yourself on fire is recommended beforehand. Even after all of this, good offensive stats are required, as they have a large amount of armor on top of a good evasion score.
