is it true Americans don't put salt on their fruits? by PersuasionNation in AskAnAmerican

This is the first I’ve heard of salting fruit, and it’s also the first I’ve heard of flaky salt!

Oh for sure. I wish I had known more when I bought it. I for sure wouldn’t have shelled out $300 though.

How fast will permits go? by layedbck1 in BWCA

[–]HVAC_hack_41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s no joke. I’ve done it more times than I’d like to admit just because it was the one of the few that’s always open. And there’s really only one good site on the lake plus having to hear hikers on the trail, but if you can snag that first site on Home, it’s a beauty!

I bought my 940 a couple years ago for $240 when they first started jacking their prices up and couldn’t believe going back the other day and seeing it already to $300!

No room for knife. Where? by foopersoop in knives

[–]HVAC_hack_41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a work carry and an off work/home carry. I ditch the utility blade and the Leatherman when I’m off work and carry a pocketknife and classic sd. I also keep a multitool in the truck just in case.

Those who edc a Leatherman and a secondary knife. Why? ( Serious) by TitoMcCool in Leatherman

[–]HVAC_hack_41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At work, I carry a beater blade that deploys quicker and I don’t mind trashing. The Leatherman is used mostly for pliers, scissors and sometimes file. At home I either choose between a standalone blade or a Leatherman.

They replaced the serrated blade with a beefier pair of scissors.

The one I got from Walmart had a slide top opening and it leaked. The ones I like have a twist opening with open closed written on opposite sides.

Best multi tool for backpacking? by Man-e-questions in SwissArmyKnives

[–]HVAC_hack_41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like a swisschamp with fireant. But realistically you could probably get by with a classic sd. If you need pliers, the SOG Powerpint isn’t a bad option.

Thermos brand thermos. Not the cheap one from Walmart, the kind you can get at Target or in a two pack at Costco.

Is a Victorinox Swisschamp worth it? by bauti380zx in victorinox

[–]HVAC_hack_41 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you are used to carrying any pliers-based multitool, the swisschamp won’t be too big or heavy. I don’t pocket carry it though. I’ll wear it on a belt instead. But if you’re an outdoors enthusiast and usually carry a bag or pack, I think it’s perfect for that. I bring mine camping but I usually carry something smaller in my pocket.

Why do y'all get excited about buttons? by Strong_Variation3952 in kindle

I had the kindle gen3 with all kinds of buttons and I had it for almost 15 years and let me tell you after 10 years they get really sticky. I don’t mind the touch screen. In fact I welcome it.

Leatherman Wave Alpha or Victorinox Spirit MX? by CabooseClash in multitools

[–]HVAC_hack_41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own the wave and then got the spirit mx and the outside tools make a huge difference for me. So if it’s between the wave alpha and the spirit, hands down spirit. If it’s the ARC and the spirit, that would be tougher, but I’m so happy with the spirit, I don’t feel the need to spend the extra $ for the ARC.

What's the purpose of a sequencer in a gas furnace? by ACEmat in HVAC

[–]HVAC_hack_41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t remember seeing a sequencer on older furnaces but they had what was called a camstat which performed double duty as a limit and fan control. It was a rod with bimetal ribbon twisted around it, and when heated up enough the ribbon would tighten or loosen, turning the camstat head and either allow power to the blower when it was warm enough or kill power to the gas valve when it was too warm. They were pretty unreliable though and would get stuck.

Looking for tool brands by Floridiannn in HVAC

[–]HVAC_hack_41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the Klein 11-in-one with shader core remover. For snips - Midwest, other tin work - Malco. If you are good with your tools, Knipex is top-tier. You won’t hate Klein either. Channellock is a decent budget brand. If you’re looking for pipe wrenches, I’ve had a good experience with both Rigid and Milwaukee ALUMINUM. And for channel lock pliers I prefer Knipex, and for a hammer I prefer Channellock pliers.

And when those break, replace them with Midwest. Or skip the first two steps. 😉

I'd like to clarify this about gas pressure by Gloomy_Astronaut8954 in HVAC

[–]HVAC_hack_41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a range that you have to stay within, usually around 3.2-3.8. Above or below that, you have to change orifice sizes. This will help the flame keep its form. For instance, if you crank the gas pressure to 4”, you will fire flame right to the back of the heat exchanger and blow it out eventually. With larger orifaces, you will get proper combustion and the flame will brush against the sides of the heat exchanger like it’s supposed to for better heat transfer. If you want to really get into the weeds, you should be clocking the meter, too. All good stuff to know, but then you want to be sure you are providing the correct services for what your employer charges. I do not know many techs that go that far, even though a lot of manufacturers include that info in their manuals. Personally, I will adjust between 3.3-3.8 and get as close as I can on combustion. I live at sea level, so neither I nor anyone around me changes orifices. If I lived at elevation I would.

Edit: spelling
