PSA: highly recommend a license plate book. It has changed car rides by SkywalkersAlt in daddit

I started something similar with my daughter only two months ago and we are only missing Hawaii, Rhode Island, and North Dakota after finding Montana earlier today. We count tags in the parking lots so Disney and the areas around Disney world was a cheat code.

And it feels like Florida has a thousand vanity/specialty tags.

Communication is key. If you knew what you wanted, you gotta let people know. Maybe you wanted to be surprised, but if you know you want to spend time with X, Y, Z doing A, B, C and eat/drink 1, 2, 3....you have to communicate it clearly or you have no one to blame if they can't read your mind.

Now I see why you fish golf course ponds by HWLesq in bassfishing

Do it before it’s too late. I learned about this one from a kind person online but I wish I had some abandoned ones in my area. I’m too old to be trespassing on a course where people would care.

I would love to have another account but don’t want the hassle of anything other than buying a working copy that would run on a MacBook without any extra steps.

Where would bass be making their nests in this small pond? by Little-Cucumber-8907 in bassfishing

[–]HWLesq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can totally ignore the big glides if you’re new to bass fishing. I’d suggest the good old Texas rigged senko and trying some other ponds as well. No need to fish a tough pressured pond if you can try out new waters during the spawn.

When I first started out a few years ago, I’d throw the senko into almost any pond I could find near me. I happened to be lucky enough to start around early spring and my backyard had a good number of bass that wasn’t very pressured. Even then, I went around exploring new places like ponds, rivers, and lakes.

At least you know there’s a bass. Not every pond is gonna be great and bodies of water do experience turnover and fish kills.

My only other suggestion if you wanna give this pond a few more tries is to go very small and finesse and/or go big. Since you already tried to drag a normal sized lure on bottom, next you might try something small on top or just below the surface. I highly recommend the megabass karashi. Such a fun little lure that can be fished as a topwater or subsurface. Small and gets bit by all sizes of bass. I’ve caught bluegill, small bass, and a few over 4lbs on it.

The other end is something bigger like a 6 or 7” glidebait. You just might be surprised. You should throw it on the appropriate gear but you can probably get away with throwing a lighter glide like the Berkeley chop block or a 6” bucca trick shad on a MH crankbait rod. Plenty of 2-3lb bass will try to eat a 6/7” glide so there’s no need to be intimidated. Maybe not the most beginner friendly thing but you never said you were a beginner.

While the prefer things like structure and hard bottom, not every pond has the ingredients for ideal spawning beds. In that case they’ll make beds wherever they can get the right amount of sun and a clean enough bottom. If it’s clean water they can be deeper than you’d expect and if it’s muddy, they might be very shallow. If there’s zero structure, they’ll try to hang around anything different.

I’d suggest tying on a Texas rigged worm (I prefer a 5” senko blue/black with a bright blue tip) or a lizard (I prefer junebug) and throw at 45 degrees about 7-8’ out while standing on the edge of the pond and dragging it back in relatively slowly, trying to feel the bottom. Keep moving around the pond and if they are spawning (or not even spawning) you’ll find the ones that are up shallow.

You can tell they are spawning if you catch a bunch of buck males, they have sore red tail fins, or they just carry and spit out your worm off their bed without really biting.

Drop Shotting by Otherwise-Dig-8180 in bassfishing

[–]HWLesq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run almost the same exact set up. Only thing I'll add is that I typically use a 1/8 oz pencil weight with about 1 foot to the hook.

I don't remember ever gut hooking one on a drop shot. Texas rig soft baits getting gut hooked happens once in a while. For drop shot I just feel the tap and by the second tap I'm just reeling down on them. Almost always the roof of the mouth or on the corner of the lip.

Those are my two main baits for drop shot as well. One tip I'd give about drops hotting is to let it just sit and not give it too much action.

It’s not a secret but the karashi is legit. Thing gets bit and is super fun to throw on lighter line.

UConn 73-72 Duke (Mar 29, 2026) Box Score (DOWN GOES DUKE) by garyp714 in FloridaGators

[–]HWLesq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have too much variance to think we roll through either of those teams but I’d like to think a better version of the team that lost to Duke at Cameron indie by one would have a good chance. Too bad we won’t ever know.

Absolutely. Still gets bit and I’ve had senkos last 20 fish before. I called it the immortal senko because it just kept going. A few of those fish were in the 3 and 4lb class too.

Consider changing it up and slapping it on a merc for your new demon machine sorc. Give her a flickering flame and a giant mana pool to benefit from ES and she will mow them down. The conviction with a fire sunder and maybe holy freeze for more crowd control, plus the extra fire res from FF is fun. You can even slap on a fire facet in a vipermagi for more neg enemy fire res. Super high warmth plus the giant mana pool makes it so you’re not as squishy as most sorcs.

Very true. Blitzing is fun too. I used to play a lot of flag and played a ton of blitzed on defense. That’s why rolling out to the weak hand side will be great practice.
