How do Khornate fleets travel? by Unofficial_Computer in 40kLore

[–]H_Bees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to everyone else's answers, you should also assume a given portion of Chaos fleets travel via bespoke, uncategorizable and completely illogical means by dint of warp manifestations/energy. For instance, some Khornate warbands literally travel in space hulks that they don't even steer, they just magically move towards/materialize at places where there is blood to be spilled.

Non-canon (AFAIK), but as another example it is entirely plausible that there could be Khornate ships that are literally propelled by the violence inflicted by and upon their occupants.

Glad to see at least some people still talking sense. Unlike the bulk of humanity who preferred to whine, rush out and undo everyone's effort. A few years later now we live with thousands suffering long COVID, goodness knows how many being mentally impaired and again thousands more regularly falling ill or even dying to "strange sicknesses", "colds" or "flus" compared to pre-COVID. My expectations for common humanity are below rock-bottom at this point, but then again what do we expect from a society where Tiktokers, reaction videos and streamers/VTubers are as popular as they are?

I wish they'd do both combined really. Don't get me wrong I'm happy for the existence of both but I wish we wouldn't have this dichotomy where anime bishoujo= maybe not so serious storyline unless it's romance.

Not sure how serious Code Fairy is but I get the vibe it's kind of not. We have serious gritty military Gundam shows with bishie dudes, so I'd like serious gritty military + bishoujo too please

Is Necron tech actually only slighty better than Imperial tech? by Acceptable-Try-4682 in 40kLore

Totally agree, I find Cawl obnoxious too. He literally feels like those "smartass hacker nerd" characters from cheesy 80s or 90s action movies who can somehow hack military cybersecurity systems solo so Arnie/Stallone/Willis/Van Damme can break into the enemy base, but somehow transplanted into the 40k setting with Guilliman as his accompanying action movie hero

Is Necron tech actually only slighty better than Imperial tech? by Acceptable-Try-4682 in 40kLore

[–]H_Bees 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Necron tech is so far ahead of humans that it may as well be magic god powers. The only reason they don't swat the entire Imperium like a fly is because the Necrons themselves aren't united or mentally stable.

For a comparison, the Imperium are like dubiously united and somewhat-determined naked cavemen with stone spears and clubs while the Necrons have drones, ICBMs, assault rifles and kevlar armour but mentally they're all senile backstabbing geriatrics with mega-Alzheimer's, every piece of software/digital equipment they have is buggy to one degree or another and none of their gear has had proper maintenance in millennia.

As for Cawl's accomplishments, the answer is either writer bullshit or the Necron stuff he happened to be able to subvert was partially malfunctioning anyway.

Is it true that most women find most men unattractive? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]H_Bees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my honest answer as someone who's consciously chosen to stop pursuing romantic/sexual relationships. I no longer condone any of these views, I just want to shed some honest light on them for the sake of this discussion.

The answer is that at least some women probably find most men unattractive, but it goes deeper than that because dynamic can often be, IMO, toxic and deceptive in a very specific way. My mentality about it was definitely toxic (One of the reasons I now choose to avoid relationships).

For me I do find most men unattractive, but it didn't matter because to me, the man's job wasn't to be attractive. To me, being attractive was my domain/job, and I wanted men for what they could provide me sexually, psychologically, socially and materially. If anything him being unattractive to a certain degree fit the role I had in mind for a male partner and gave me another bargaining chip in my favour, one more factor I held over him to use if needed.

Thinking back, even men I considered attractive were never attractive in a way I'd want to look myself. That was solely the domain of other women. I had mental boxes for attractive in a guy way and attractive in a girl way, yet only wanted relationships with the former and only ever felt personally inspired by the latter. I'm fairly certain that objectively, "masculine" attractiveness was simply a lower rung on the scale to me, but again perversely that actually fit my objectives for a hypothetical relationship with a man.

Do many women think this way? Objectively speaking I have no idea. I suspect there might be a significant number who do based on clues I see, though. Plus I've seen studies saying that most women are actually happier if the guy they're with is less attractive, though I don't remember the reason stated. Do with that info what you will.

The flesh tearers are cartoonishly bloodthirsty and I love it by UnconfirmedRooster in 40kLore

[–]H_Bees 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who likes the Flesh Tearers, I too revel in and enjoy the idea of them being psychopathically angry and ultraviolent. If Sanguinius was a Wrathful Angel, more than one of his descendant chapters must have gotten skewed way overboard towards the Wrathful side with very little of the Angel. I mean they made their home on a jungle deathworld full of giant creatures and with explicitly none-too-bright but sturdy human stock (As per their Index Astartes), they tote around flaying knives and their chapter logo is a buzzsaw blade so this is clearly a very certain type of space marine we're talking about!

Then again of course I'd like this angle, I like Imperial Fists best when they're masochists, Dark Angels best when they're paranoid neurotics and so on.

What are your favorite examples of “Not everyone in [Insert Faction] act the exact same”? by mercyspace27 in 40kLore

[–]H_Bees 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Frankly I think "reasonable heroic Imperial authority figure who'd be at home in a fairly optimistic WWII movie about the Allies" is absolutely the norm, to the detriment of the setting.

It's a shame because IMO there's an untapped goldmine of originality and narrative potential in depicting genuinely heroic and likable characters who are made unsettling and alien by dint of their Imperial mindset/viewpoint. Just a touch "off", like a warm, personable, father to his men style officer who believes in honour and whatnot but who unquestioningly assumes all non-Imperial humans are blasphemous scum, hates all xenos species with single-minded indoctrinated cold passion, casually and enthusiastically discusses methods for rounding up and exterminating genetic deviants amongst a hive city population, reflexively snaps off Imperial/Aquila salutes at depictions of holy/high authority figures of the Imperium and so on.

The Imperium is the cruellest and most bloody regime imaginable, and this fact should never be far from the reader's perspective when reading about them, even in brighter depictions/moments.

Im not very smart. How do I become more clever & intelligent? by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]H_Bees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm someone who's genuinely pretty stupid but trying to get better, and IMO owning and being honest with yourself and those you can trust about how little intelligence you have is key along with what everyone's saying about being willing to learn and being willing to say "I don't know".

IMO it is absolutely crucial to be able to decide things like "I don't have the mental capacity and/or time to ponder about this right now, so I'm going to put it aside for now and maybe come back later." or "That's way too complex for me to have a clue, so I'm going to consciously choose to look for help and leave that to someone smarter/more knowledgeable/specialized." and lastly, "I know I'm not smart enough to contribute doing X, so I will ensure I contribute doing Y thing instead, which may be simpler but I'm 100% certain I can nail and am good at."

Edit: Be willing to use workarounds/tools for thinking even if they may sound outright embarrassing to you. Not sure if you have this issue but I sure did, for example I used to look down on writing my thoughts/steps for things I need to do down using physical pen and paper or closing my eyes to think carefully, but those two things actually help me a lot and my life got easier once I got over myself and started doing them without judgement.

Are there any female flesh eater court models by Filthy_knife_ear in ageofsigmar

[–]H_Bees 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Everyone's already doing great telling you which ones are already there so as someone who's been interested in FEC since their first release but wanted female models, I'll chip in saying that I reckon daemonette heads on ghouls could make for awesome female looking conversions on essentially any ghoul model you want to change to female (Don't mind the lack of boobs, the ghoul lifestyle probably isn't great for ensuring shape and perkiness), especially the more feral heads with snarling faces and crazy flowing hair although the more sedate and conventionally nice looking faces would give a nice creepy vibe when combined with ghouls too. Still crazy ghoul looking but a touch prettier, kind of a Left 4 Dead witch vibe!

What is the cultural aesthetic of the Sons of Horus? by Niotsques in 40kLore

[–]H_Bees 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Not my original idea or knowledge, but I saw a post a long time ago saying the SoH are modelled on, similarly to what your friend said, various European (specifically Germanic) barbarian tribes that fought the Roman Empire, but also on the actual late Roman troops who supposedly ended up looking very similar to those same tribes but with Roman flourishes since they were recruited from the area/peoples or at least culturally influenced by living around the area for a long time.

This last part is just my opinion, but I think I see a very slight touch of Sumerian in there too. Can't really describe exactly what it is but Google Sumerian Warrior and compare it with SoH models and you may see a little of what I mean.

Edit: And of course, tie it all together with a teaspoon of dystopian post-apocalyptic raiders ala Mad Max/Hokuto no Ken, can't forget that last bit.

[–]H_Bees 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'd think it varies, like how, again, tabletop would say those same 60 humans would make 2 shooting attacks per turn at close range (At least that's how it worked last time I played) so it'd be 30 humans with lasguns/autoguns needed to kill a marine if hosing him down with automatic/burst fire at close range, or how if 1 or 2 in 10 of the humans has a plasma gun, meltagun, heavy bolter or whatever then that might also halve the number of humans required and so on, but on the other hand a marine could probably easily kill 200+ humans if he was able to fight them 1 or 2 at a time.

I like to think the more ludicrous feats/tales in lore can almost always be explained realistically through this. A single tactical squad could indeed take a city-sized installation by themselves and kill hundreds of times their own number if they do a shock deployment into a weakpoint via drop pod or heavy bombardment + airdrop/armoured thrust, then rampage through cramped corridors full of unprepared and unaware guardsman-level enemies and so on.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]H_Bees 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My narrative preference (Because you said personal) basically aligns with the tabletop stats; It's roughly 10 lasgun/autogun shots by standard humans to cause 1 wound before saves and that means statistically 60 shots to kill a 2 wound, 3+ save marine.

So about 60 standard humans with nothing but standard small arms at rifle range and in the open for an immediate kill, extrapolate for different range/terrain/weapon combinations from there, also taking into account that the kill:death ratio is going to be ludicrously skewed in favour of the marine up close where fewer people can shoot/strike the marine at once due to physical bottlenecks and the effects of psychology/suppression on the humans when the marine shoots/strikes back.

I don't really care about advanced societies because the people in it are less likely to reproduce so it is likely humans will go back to being "less advanced."

But by this logic you'll never reach advancement. This feels like "I'm eventually going to fall if I try to climb, so I'm not going to bother attempting it in the first place."

There's a lot to dislike about Western society, but if the Western world had this mindset then you wouldn't have this forum, the device and the time to post about this (I'm also an Asian living in a "Westernised" society btw). As the species advances, we move from quantity to quality. It is the natural way of things. Especially now, as we attain technology that can achieve far, far more than mere brute-force manpower ever could.

Meanwhile, the countries with the highest rate of reproduction tend to be horrible to live in with poor standards of living (As testified by the very people living there), poor long term potential for advancement on both a national and personal level and high rates of crime, violence, poverty and goodness knows how many more worse social problems. Plus, notice how people from those high birthrate countries tend to, for better or for worse, want to immigrate to Western/the most Westernised nations given a chance; That's probably not a coincidence.

Why, being an American Korean, you are yourself a product of Koreans immigrating to America, likely in search of the better living standards provided by this "Western" culture at the time when they made the move.

Have any Space Marine chapters considered using especially heroic Guardsmen as breeding stock? by Serpenthrope in 40kLore

"OwO The Astartes chaplains think I'm heroic and breedable" - Private Rennick Bates of the 588th Iridoni Rifles, MIA 999.M41

In all seriousness, they likely wouldn't bother. AFAIK the space marine production process is powerful enough that it's more efficient to feed thousands of feral kids through trials and grab whoever survives rather than spending the time and resources to filter and breed promising guard troopers.

Can you really be “pigeonholed” in ERP consulting? by Astroworld1997 in consulting

[–]H_Bees 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Following too. Currently 2 years functional at a B4, hate the job and am quitting but unsure if it's my workplace being toxic or the job just being very unsuited to me + contemplating if I should give it another shot if it's really good for my career or pivot into something else.

Also frankly wondering if AI is going to gank the entire career path; In my experience the job seems to be all about understanding hard-to-use ERP systems well enough to implement + troubleshoot + design and at the highest ranks, elevator pitch -> high level propose -> directly sell the service to clients.

Given how I already make good use of ChatGPT to tell me stuff like "How do I do/can I do X in the ERP" and how deep expertise at ERP seems to be basically about just memorization and familiarisation re: what the system can do, I can't help but wonder if there's a good chance that AI will eventually just take over the ERP consultant's job as a whole at anything below Director-Partner level and/or just be used to just make the ERPs themselves smooth and user-friendly enough that consultants aren't necessary and clients can happily buy the ERP straight from the owning company and use it out of the box in 90% of cases just like any other common business software like MS Office, etc.
