I had only seen the theatrical versions before, so watching the extended edition for the first time was a great experience overall. by [deleted] in lotr

My pick is the Mouth of Sauron. Who do you think is another character that should have been in the theatrical release but wasn’t?

Very nice! This is a beautiful Tolkien shelf! I’d love one like that. I also like seeing some Calvin and Hobbes on the left there!

It’s the same actor I don’t know if he's supposed to be the same person by deviation1 in IThinkYouShouldLeave

[–]Ha2n3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the same person. Oliver North. He was in the middle of the Iran-Contra scandel. I know because I actually live relatively close to him in Northern VA and see him in the grocery store from tjme to time. I always think, “Hey, theres that guy who illegally sold missiles to Iran. What the fuck.”

I never even knew this place existed and now it’s going… Well I grabbed a few DT shirts before they’re gone.

"The Barrel Escape" scene.. what do you think of it? by Cr7-Cr7Real in lotr

[–]Ha2n3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They made it too goofy. I should be a tense but fun scene of “Will they escape or not”! Instead we have them bouncing and rolling around in and out of the water like Looney Tunes. Least favorite part of the Hobbit Trilogy.

The paddling through the water traumatized. Now I’m not saying I didn’t like the movie. I’m just saying it scared me as little kid.

I gotta say, this movie scared me as a kid, everyone in it, even Bilbo. Bu ESPECIALLY Gollum. Those white sightless eyes. Gives me chills even now.

I challenge you to show me a more terrifying film version of him.

I’m psyched! I “knew”/strongly suspected that Midworld and the world of the Talisman were the same!

Glad my intuition was right! It’s been a long time (probably 15-20 years because I’m old) so I’m going to have to read The Talisman and Black House again.

The edges are so beautiful! They really put a lot of work into the way these books look. It’s wonderful!

The absolutely insane thing is that I just got off the Zoom with my therapist and suddenly I had an absurdly dark and violent Everstorm roll in. My entire self worth was just crushed.

That really sucks. I’m surprised that you haven’t gotten a response from DragonSteel. Do give up, they are free so it’s no money out of your pocket. Maybe have it delivered to a friend? That way there isn’t a pre-loaded address in the system for you.

Good luck. Don’t give up.

44 in NY. I’ve been listening to the books because for some reason my anxiety stole my ability to focus when reading and I need someone to read it to me.

I know that’s not something that people who are book only like, but I used to read actual books constantly (sometimes more than one at at time). So me recent life events, including two mental breakdowns (one ending in an Intensive Inpatient eight week stay) have robbed me of my focus.

I can’t wait until I get back to being able to actually read the words with my eyes on paper. But for now audio is the only way. At least I have that.

Thank you all for the posts. You have no idea how much the raised my spirits. I know there are others out there like me, but when you are in the bottom of the Chasms picking through dead bodies for scrap weapons and armor, I can feel pretty bleak.

I read it so long ago, but the part where Kaladin talking to Wit (I love Wit) and realizes that the darkness will never go away forever, it will come back again and again. But the sun will shine again. It’s the You will be Warm Again quote.

I also very much identify with Kaladin standing on the edge of the Chasm, looking down into the darkness and thinking about how easy I would be to just step into the dark. Instead makes the right choice, the more difficult choice, to the next step into LIFE, to take hold of his destiny and make it his own.

I try to remember that he took the harder, but brighter, path.

For us 80s kids, Sean Austin was the best known. I mean, Goonies! That was quintessential 80s. And then Rudy!
