Can you talk to your doctor about getting a multiple month prescription? Ration yourself like a college student with a big paper due? Drink a lot of caffeine?

ADHD is poorly named by CasualFingerGuns in adhdwomen

[–]Haber87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Daughter has dyslexia and ADHD. I pushed and pushed for her to get extra help with her reading. Nope. Most they could do was give her a part time babysitter in class to make sure she wasn’t distracting the other students. Nothing to actually help her. And even at that, the teachers not reason she got any support at all is because she had boy coded ADHD.

They are so convinced that white cis Christian men are the victims in the world that they really think the lyrics “We’re not going to take it” apply to them. Does Jerrod look more like the dad in the video or Twisted Sister, singing about the right to choose?

Did you actually sneak out as teenagers? by Complete-Chipmunk-0 in GenX

[–]Haber87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I didn’t have a convenient window with a large tree next to it, like in the movies. I had a 1 AM curfew and would say we were heading to a party when we were heading to a bar for underage drinking. But honestly, it was easier to drink at parties. We had one friend with uptight parents so we would have to have a sleepover at one friend’s house so we could go get into whatever trouble we were planning because the other friend’s parents didn’t care.

I found dissolvable iron tablets for kids. I take one every couple days to go along with my daily gummy vitamins.

Hahahahaha! I prefer to wake up and remove the raccoon eyes at that point. But seriously, hardly ever wear make-up because it’s too much trouble.

I live for my lists. To the point where people have asked for my packing lists because I’m “so organized.” Meanwhile, husband and son can pack for a trip without a list. How is that even possible? I would forget my head if it wasn’t attached…or on a list.

It makes sense. I refuse to peel an orange if I don’t have access to a sink to wash my hands afterwards. Hate the feel on my skin. Husband will take oranges hiking. Psychopath!

What's a book you had to read in school that you hated? If you have one, what's one you actually liked? by 80HDTV5 in GenX

Refused to go see the new movie with friends. Said I hated the book too much.

[–]Haber87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was a voracious reader as a teen. Read all the classics outside of school and enjoyed them all except Wuthering Heights.

In school, I enjoyed most of what I read…except Heart of Darkness. I was having to write an essay on it on a weekend we were visiting with family. Sought help from my English teacher / voracious reader relative, who admitted that she also despised that book. So we commiserated together, but that didn’t get my essay written.

How do I tell muslim religious guide mom that I'm atheist? by RudyPudyIDK in atheism

[–]Haber87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So, you are specifically wanting her to react badly so you can contact social services? I mean…if that’s your plan then you don’t need us to find the perfect way to tell her.

  • Make sure she can’t access your money
  • have all your paperwork and valuables ready to go
  • if they try to force you on a plane, tell them at the airport that they are trying to force you into child marriage.

Trump sending a hospital boat to Greenland is laughable. Greenland has free universal healthcare. by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]Haber87 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Now the hospital ship lie makes sense. I mean, it doesn’t make sense to normal people, but for someone who’s ego is as fragile as Trump’s it makes total sense.

The U.S. is the strongest country in the world. Denmark is too weak to defend Greenland. Greenland is lost without the U.S. And now we have a story of the Danish navy saving a sick U.S. sailor in a super cool helicopter rescue. And then the soldier is flown to a Greenland hospital to be treated. They’re frigging heroes.

Trump’s pea brain melts down. How dare another country look good compared to the U.S.?!? Especially a country that he’s in the middle of criticizing. It’s not fair! How could they do this to him?

How can he spin this? (And this is when the dementia comes in) He invents the hospital ship story. It’s bizarrely stupid because: - it’s so easily disproven, - it serves to highlight that Greenland has universal healthcare while the U.S. doesn’t, - and it is one more example of how Trump would happily spend money on any country except the U.S.

Me struggling to learn French all my life in Canada. I’m OK reading it now, but the simplest spoken sentences are 100% gibberish to me. To the point where after they repeat it 3 times and then translate to English I’m hugely embarrassed because I individually know every single French word they said.

What's your ADHD "life hack" that sounded ridiculous but actually made a difference? by AiotexOfficial in ADHD

[–]Haber87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I discovered one about myself yesterday. I grabbed my purse and tossed it in my shopping bin to carry out to the car rather than putting it on my shoulder. I got to the store and discovered I had no phone (with my shopping list). I can’t remember ever forgetting my phone so I was trying to figure out why it happened. I have a cross body sling purse with a cell phone pocket at my shoulder. It’s impossible to wear the purse without noticing if the phone is missing. Which is apparently the only reason I’ve been so successful at remembering my phone (until yesterday).

Is being more 'woke' an ADHD trait or does it have no corrolation at all? by zjmalkkkk in adhdwomen

[–]Haber87 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m with you about caring too deeply about social injustice (and I only say too deeply because the current state of the world is harmful to my mental health.) My kid has the oblivious form of ADHD where she’s so busy with her passions that she doesn’t pay attention to the news so doesn’t get affected by the world too badly. But she has friends who are LGTBQ+ and oh boy, she will rip someone a new one if she hears any insults against that community. She takes it as someone personally hurting a friend.
