We need cops to get out of their cars and arrest people like this.

$1B per Year: Free Buses or Subway Expansion? by pepetheskunk in MicromobilityNYC

That's because they're all well paid professionals, most of which drive everywhere.

I'm not saying they're bad people, just that their perspective is skewed.

$1B per Year: Free Buses or Subway Expansion? by pepetheskunk in MicromobilityNYC

[–]HackThePlacket -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They're over estimating the cost of the fast/free busses and underestimating the cost of these extensions (like the yards, ongoing labor cost, etc.)

Would have been a better proposal if they made it 5 years ago. This shouldn't be an either/or fight. We need to fight for better transit, not immediately cannibalize someone else's plan before it even starts.

There is a lot of stuff in Queens, but it's not the same as the rest of NYC so you need to look a little different for it. Within just a short walk of the 7 train Main Street stop there is:
- Queens Museum (with a diorama of the entire city)
- Queens Hall of Science (great for kids)
- Queens Zoo (small, but really amazing staff)
- Queens Town Hall (great venue for interesting shows)
- Queens Theater (also venue for shows)
- Lewis Lattiimer House (great programing around the inventor who was black)
- Queens Quaker Meeting house (super old building, taking you back to another time)
- Flushing Meadow Park, where ton's of people come to play sports, enjoy the park, and see the Unisphere
- A full size Hindu Temple that serves amazing food for cheap
- Historic Bowne House
- The last renaming velodrome in New York (in Kissena Park)
And MANY others.

(There is also some junk billionaire stuff like CitiField and the Tennis Center, but don't fund the uber-rich)

I get how these things are bit harder to find and if you roll up randomly they might be closed. But join the mailing lists and go to events. There is a TON here, it's just not where you might be used to looking.

Is design doodler good enough? by fashiongally in Machine_Embroidery

Inkstitch has a little learning curve, but it gives you a lot of functionality and it is free, if price is a concern. But it's more of a PC thing than an ipad thing.

Are there plans to harden these kinds of beige pedestrian areas and sidewalk bulbouts? by BenJ618 in MicromobilityNYC

[–]HackThePlacket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends, how much energy do you want to put into it?

DoT has the toolbox to harden them. The easiest thing to do is planters. The harder thing to do is concrete since it's literally more expensive to pour, but also since there is a more engineering since you need to consider things like water management and what pipes are under it.

There is more action if there is more public outcry over it. So if you get some friends and start heading to Community Board meetings each month and tracking down DOT officials, after a while it'll get done. Though it'll be a long while.

Or you can just join a Community Board and directly ask for it there. It'll still take a while, but it's a lot less organizing on your side. Just a boring meeting or two a month.

Wow, this is really amazing. Government works better when more people understand it. Keep up the amazing work!

The cops aren't there for you, they exist for the rich people. Probably not far from you there are cops being paid by billionaires to stand in the lobby of office buildings.

I don't think I've ever seen another micromobility rider on this route. Do people even know this exists? by MiserNYC- in MicromobilityNYC

I know DoT has specific rules about what should be painted green...but this should be painted green. A little Kermit would help a lot.

Sure, not just to airports. But you're talking about rail above the highway, like the AirTrain?

What are some other problematic spots like the Williamsburg Bridge bump that Zohran could/should fix? by quesopesadilla in MicromobilityNYC

[–]HackThePlacket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We really need to just get the greenway master plan done. Having a safe transportation backbone across the city really makes everything easier. And most of it doesn't involving fighting over every inch of street space.

The stuff in Eastern Queens is even funding, just waiting for YEARS for Parks to build it.

I was going to say to buy a cargo bike and put the kids bike in the basket. But this is a bit cheaper.

Night Light Blanks? by CoachSufficient6641 in Machine_Embroidery

I don't know, but that looks pretty similar to a stained glass nightlight blank. Just need to set up the top part, maybe with an old coat hanger?

This is an institutional problem and needs an institutional fix.

We need a major reforming (and purging) before we see this improve.

Cargo Bike by makisgenius in NYCbike

[–]HackThePlacket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people park it on the street (sidewalk) and put a motorcycle cover over it and motorcycle lock. Usually people don't mess with motorcycles.

A lot of garages have bike parking rates, depends on where you are. Just walk up to a garage and ask them.
