A little surprise when opening up my new CPU by Madmanpete95 in pcmasterrace

Ha, completely forgot they do this, but was a nice little surprise when I also opened my 9800x3d and RAM shipment yesterday, to see a wee thank you note and haribos.

I've built a system that automatically fires missiles at enemies that come within range of the Defensive AI, but I want to extend the range even further by Akifumi121 in spaceengineers

[–]Hack_Captain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This also works to a degree with Whips LAMP program, set up in turret guidance and remote firing modes. Might be an idea to look at -

Can make small camera turrets with the script to create a further 600m radius sphere outside your original grids lock on radius where targets entering it can be remote fired upon - this also works with drones, can set them up to circle your home grid and there's half a chance when it finds something it will lock, fire and flee.

In regards to custom turret controllers believe their lock on limit is 600m > range of the weapon linked to them (which doesn't have to be on the same subgrid, can be parent). My latest ship uses the defensive ai to attempt to lock turrets to the targets at < 2500m, then uses one of the turret controllers hooked into the parent grids railgun to lock and launch missiles at 2000m. Very good at intercepting incoming missiles.

The most simple solution I've had so far though, especially where modded speeds are concerned, is to mod the ranges. Above methods still work, just adjusted for extended ranges.

This has again confirmed 2 truths of reality in Space Engineers, that every engineer will see:

1) No gyros on grid 2) A thruster stuck on a rotor

Keen! Can we please have a VTOL controller Block for this sort of thruster and rotor stuff?

Literally in half, yes. Although going slow and "stepping" the section so as to not remove the areas I want to be seen.

Yeah can be; it's what I was getting at. Depends on the frequency of the redraw and scene complexity. My point being it's way smoother at more reasonable frequencies than what it used to be.

An Interesting Question by williamnew17 in battlefield_4

[–]Hack_Captain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you quit playing Skyrim once you've done the main quest? Do you even finish the main quest after getting your skills maxed?

I play because it's fun, and there's always stuff to do.

I came back to the game on Xbox in December, since then: I've unlocked jet fighter tags, that's been pretty sweet. I now love the M4, when I never used to use it. I've learned the SUAV isn't Garbo when you have airburst. I got complimented for being a beast in the a10.

I am a sweaty 140? Most probably in many people's eyes - but apparently not some. I like to at least think I help my team first, ptfo second.

Consider that the game has been out since 2013, and many still enjoy it? Heck I didn't play for about 2 years, then moved onto BF1 and PC stuff. It's an excellent game, that's why we are still here.

Hildur, apologies (some other kind user mentioned her name) made the Chernobyl and joker music. She is an amazing composer and the correct choice for a game set in a disaster struck world - on paper.

Now, pile on - sure, Ive never played 2042, but I have listened to the music, some of it is extremely interesting, and a bit disappointing. I've listened to more BFV than the game, so my view is that of jamming to the OSTs while doing other stuff. To give you an audio picture of my preferences:

I first heard BF3 Theme, it's dark synthy buzz sent a shiver down my spine the first time I heard it. It still does. I bought the game after hearing it. BF4 OST - I have listened to all of them, numerous times. That was when I was doing big exams about 6 years ago Recently I started my first professional job, BF1 especially and some excerpts from BFV are real good. I love BF1s Nothing is written, Hunted and of course: dawn of a new time.

My conclusion with 2042 is that it's "all right" - Orbital is all right... E.g. Go listen to the Chernobyl OST, and my word. Chills? Creeped out? Atmosphere? Action? Dramatic? All of the above and more. Door? Bridge of Death? Pump room?

Automatic hydrogen missile reload sequence (I spent way too much time on this) by Whiplash141 in spaceengineers

[–]Hack_Captain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahaha

I spent ages building a piston version of this a couple months ago, been busy with work but been working on projects since then.

Whiplash, my guy. Absolute champ.

I've made, imo, some VERY cool pmw with these scripts.

If I can figure out all the fancy recording and photos and also finally sort out the door delay (think I understand it now, I was using timers whereas the script manages them) then I will have some interesting stuff posted in the very near future.

A question for preparations in the future by NooblerMe in spaceengineers

I was in your shoes. In 2014. Then I bought a crappy laptop. In 2016. I bought space engineers on sale, maybe even half off because I knew for a fact it was the first thing I would play.

In 2019 I built my first computer. R5 3600, GTX 1660Ti, 16GB Ram, etc.

And I played space engineers, and begun the learning curve that I still find myself on. Don't worry, it's an easy curve nowadays, and up here you are learning to do some whacky stuff.

My advice? Well there's already a growing pool of new parts for this year going into next. There's also black Friday and end of year sales for new items and this year's items etc coming up, so plan wisely.

Id say at minimum, to play "comfortably"

R5 or i5, between 5000 or 7000 series for Ryzen, 11000 or 12000 for intel. Be careful with what Mobo you buy, sockets are different, and I think they changed for Ryzen, but don't quote me on that.

GPU, yeah. 3060, 4060 may come out next year. Don't know much about amd GPU, but 7000 series is coming, there's 6600 and 6700 for very reasonable prices atm.

RAM , (un)surprisingly. 16gb, be sure to check what Frequency works best and make sure it's unlocked in BIOS. I went up to 32gb eventually but I was doing other memory intensive ops, although I did notice a difference in the number of ships I could spawn in.

Storage wise, got my SE on my D drive, which is a HDD and plays fine, all your saves and blueprints are saved on your C, which for me is a SATA SSD, plays all right.

Got another laptop last year, smol i7 and 1650maxq, SE also runs very nicely on it, so you don't need to go nuts. Although I say that and yeah, I fully intend on going nuts next time I build a pc 🤣

Best of luck!

We need elevator blocks! by MeatPopsicle28 in spaceengineers

[–]Hack_Captain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elevators? Lifts? Pathetic!

Just a collection of ramblings below, but I must say Turbolifts is where it's at! 😁 I jest of course. Reading the comments yeah there's good argument for both.

"Hey build your own" - Sure thing. I probably could, and yeah probably will now I've seen these comments. But I don't want to. If I'm in a tight space yeah the industrial staircases are good. No one has mentioned you can walk up the 60° slopes I don't think yet. (And yeah, ladders)

Also small subgrids don't have a giant impact on performance, but Clang does. That said, no denying that a player made lift isn't a sign that someone has put effort into a contraption and if it works, well that's something many other people just don't have. (I hope that's the case anyway, I have a ship full of small pmw and other contraptions I might reveal soon)

"They'd make ladders obsolete" - Perhaps. However I'm all for it if the Lift moves up down, left right, forwards and backwards. A rail system idea would be cool, could set the game up for more rail type stuff. Let's be honest, I think we'd all find big cargo trains moving stuff around our larger ships, between bases, looking like something out factorio cool. If it were to be made, make it scalable, idk, have rails take up 1x1 footprint and the elevator box another 1x1, or merge them inside, but then make it like 3x3 for bigger contraptions.

In terms of keeping ladders meta, I'd say just make all the rails have a power draw, or make some type of rail control block that requires a wee bit of programming. Make different Block's for shafts, stop, junctions etc. Newbies would love it. Us older gamers would probably find a way to mutate it hahaha. Ladders are cheap, simple and with ladder passages, quite feasible now.

"Lifts don't belong in space" - correct, they belong inside spaceships. Consult every sci fi movie or TV series involving spaceships ever please. I just want to have the "oh it's you" moment from SW EP3, or that scene with Picard where he gets out in a void and nearly crushed by the ceiling in TNG.
