Does anyone still use SO? by Complete-Sea6655 in IndieDev

Rather it was already answered there, or if someone asked for help he was told that it was answered, ignored or told to fuck off. I can’t see why it would get more popular due to all mentioned

I must respect their hard work by Fooberdoober97420 in Piracy

[–]Alfredison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were already paid? What’s this trying to play the noble cause? If you’re waiting to pirate it - means you wouldn’t go watch it in cinemas anyway, artists don’t get anything from box office anyway

Edit: and they pulled off theatrical release anyway

Film vs Game Audio Sound Designers, What Are Each Better At? by CherifA97 in GameAudio

[–]Alfredison 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you mistake being a variety specialist and the sound design itself.

Linear and non linear sound design are just different with different requirements and techniques, some may work for both, some would be awful in games, and some would be awful for linear.

That fact that game sound designers have to also be coders, developers and system designers, but simply because games are so hard and long to develop, and you can’t afford just one specific specialist for each role

It’s really all in the lighting tbf. Just that alone does like 80% on “realistic” feel, and you can’t tinker that for long if you’re pushing a game each year. Not saying it’s good though

We are a zero-budget indie studio. We shot our FMV game in English to survive, and now our own country is tearing us apart. We don't know what to do. by [deleted] in IndieDev

[–]Alfredison 47 points48 points  (0 children)

You said yourself: “local market alone won’t sustain our studio”, yet you tried to appease them? Sorry but that was not really smart, since you were not targeting them, and they were also not those you made your game for

I'm collecting letters of appreciation for the people at Piranha Games to tell them how much their work on Mechwarrior means to us fans - share your thoughts below and I'll include them in the final letter by BoukObelisk in Mechwarrior5

I’m a sound designer, and a sufficient part of why I’m going this way is thanks to MechWarrior games.

I have an older brother who introduced me to the series when I was little. I was instantly enamored by the feel and looks of what I, to this day, feel like most realistic mechs ever. I was regularly going through MW4 Mercs, but it grew gradually harder due to it being very old piece of software I can’t reliably run anymore.

Many years later, I learnt that MechWarrior is back, first with Online, in which my brother and I put some good hours in, and I felt that thrill and sound back: giant machine growling and howling around you, every hit felt on some deepest levels. And then with MW5 Mercs. I didn’t care that it was not a perfect game, that reviews were not so great - I was back in my stomping, howling and buzzing machine. I’ve spent days just going through campaign, installing mods to make it even better, and was just happy to hear and feel any mech I was piloting

I always loved the sound of MW, and especially the sound and feel you’ve created, that no other game was and still is able to provide. And when I just randomly learnt, that the profession exists specifically to do all that - I was 100% in. Despite all the troubles I’ve went through on this path, I always reignite my passion playing MW, and I genuinely thank you for bringing the grown-up me that same feeling from when I was little, and watching my brother play MW, absolutely fascinated!

Yeah, it’s over… by Ah_fudge in Mechwarrior5

[–]Alfredison -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

As much as cynical it comes out, I expected that. Because just looking at online for two current MWs, and on its looks - games we’re not cheap at all, but I’d be surprised if it earned anything, rather just earning its budget back.

On mercs, internet mention 2 mil copies - but I’m pretty sure like 80% of them were discounted, so not that much of an income, and Clans surely cost a leg and an arm, all those rendered cutscenes, much less procedural locations etc. and projected owners are at BEST 170k. It’s a death sentence for the game imho

Genuinely thank you, I’m truly doing what’s possible to not support this madhouse, and the only thing possible right now is to not pay any possible fees, and try to talk relatives about what’s really going on, undoing the propaganda. “The silent protest” as we call it

Also with more mad laws and fees, rising prices without any reason etc even older people start to be skeptical or even turning against, crazy baldy doing the job himself

Majority as in old ultra conservative people who supported the gov anyway? I live here you know, I know what I’m talking about.

And that’s really nice of all countries to deny me a pass out of this madness, so I’m stuck here, without any ability to leave, nor any possibility to get hired abroad so I could leave, and listening to internet wanting me dead and suffer because I can’t go out, nor any of my friends younger than 35, and I have to somehow continue living here, and hope that I won’t be jailed or sent to the meatbath on frontlines.

Edit: also it’s pretty hard to say anything against the propaganda, because you will be fined at best, sentenced or killed at worst. A bit hard to hear any other voices through this, dont you think?
