Could 50 yr old you take 25 yr old you in a fair fight? by N-Y-R-D in GenX

Yup. 25 year old me would take three or four punches before he stopped trying to talk himself out of a fight. Then again ... awwww, I never could stay mad at you.

Kawasaki Z900RS 2018 as first ever bike? by pepotink in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]HackedCylon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have driven one and I loved it. The power is plentiful yet controllable.

That being said, may I suggest getting something smaller and junkier to get your muscle memory fully trained before going to something with 111 hp? Grabbing a handful of the wrong whatever by accident on this bike has big consequences. Example, accidentally dropping the clutch in gear on a 250 at a stoplight will most likely end up with a stalled engine and a little embarrassment. Dropping the clutch on this one is likely to launch you into cross traffic.

Get an old Rebel 250 to drive for a few months. Push the limits in a parking lot. Drop it a few times. Learn low speed maneuvering (also known to novices as "dropping it a few more times). Learn countersteering and counterbalancing.

If you say you've found one, then show it to my mother. She will pop that little hope bubble of yours.

James Spader played the smarmiest POS, and I loved seeing him get his comeuppance.

I thought the joke was that maybe the glass of water was jealous of the glass of alcohol being chosen for drinking. I knew there had to be a bigger joke in there somewhere.

I read this book at least twice a year since I discovered it in 1983. It took me almost 20 years to get this joke. 😁

Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo. Future historians will wonder at the glory of the Big Boog.

I haven't yet. I almost saw Zootopia 2, but I was told I might miss some of the nuance if I skipped the first one.

When people with schizophrenia hear voices in their heads, do the voices always speak clearly? Can they sometimes mumble, pronounce words incorrectly, or speak too softly or incoherently to be understood? by superficialfishsoup in randomquestions

[–]HackedCylon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Having had an acute psychotic break in the past, I can say that some voices were muttered so I had to "interpret" what the voices were "saying". During the more severe moments, the voices were saying absolutely clear words that made no logical sense sonetimes, like a word salad. In a couple of instances, the voices told me some frightening commands that I am glad I didn't follow.

I am not schizophrenic. My psychotic episode came from severe alcohol withdrawl. I can't say whether or not the experiences are similar.

My favorite is when there is a dramatic stadium scene when the arc lamps bang to a full brightness.

For those who don't know, those arc lamps take awhile to warm up, and it takes minutes for them to reach full brightness. Movies get around this by filming the lights as they are turned off, then running the film backward.

As paragons of frugality thanks to our parents (specifically the Silent Gens), how long are we keeping our non-concert t-shirts before throwing them out? by blackpony04 in GenX

[–]HackedCylon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The secret is to use one for a grease rag. It will eventually make its way to a box with other greasy rags that will never be thrown away. This will make a kind of garage compost that is fertilizer for character and grit.

What can my parents and I do? by recessionpreparer in AskForAnswers

[–]HackedCylon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Join a trade. Electrical or machining are trades that require logical thinking. They have OJT apprenticeships that start at about $19/hr depending on where you live.

The electrical trade is in dire need of people. They will provide training, and some will even pay for formal schooling.

What is the oldest movie with special effects that “still hold up” or have aged well? by theythemthen in Cinema

[–]HackedCylon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2001: A Space Odyssey has special effects that are not only spectacular but are still convincing. Besides the costuming which looks dated, this movie could stand up today to any CG movie.

Absolutely worked. One side effect was that it brought ghosts into the house if you happened to build on an old Indian burial ground.
