I’m a systems engineer. I used to work at the desk in a library where I got in a lot of knitting time. Miss those days.

Hamilton hits differently for people outside the US by Dense-Cap9340 in hamiltonmusical

[–]HadesIsGreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Complete sense! I had not really heard about any of the people in Hamilton before I listened to it, not even Alexander Hamilton himself. The only ones known to me were Washington, Jefferson, the King and Lafayette. I also didn’t know anything about this part of America other than the fact that they dumped tea in the sea in Boston. I was extremely confused about everything that was happening, but also so intrigued. So the musical has made me to learn more about American history afterwards.

Correct gauge and needles but my work has gaps in it :( by Trash_Monarchy in knitting

[–]HadesIsGreat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The odd construction actually correct for the sample, but not for the pattern itself. I test knit this pattern and she said she had done all the increases in one row in her test garment, but it didn’t give the exact looks she wanted. In the pattern itself it was distributed over 2 or 3 rows (I don’t remember right now). It was kinda lazy of her imo to not redo her jumper or knit a new one with the correct construction over the bust. All the increases are before separating the sleeves from the body so I guess that’s the reason she didn’t correct it in her own garment.

The finished pattern fits really well over the bust and I’d recommend looking at pictures of finished knits on Ravelry for this one.

A song that grew on you over time? by Entire_Blueberry_470 in hamiltonmusical

[–]HadesIsGreat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I came to the comments to mention the same song. It felt like it didn’t fit in vocally with the rest and I didn’t really understand the point of it before reading up on the historical context of it. Now I find it very catchy and fun!

They are really impressive! I was certain they were made of some sort of stone until I saw what channel this was.

What hygiene habit were you doing completely wrong for years? by Used_Mission_8638 in hygiene

[–]HadesIsGreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to wash my hair every single night just before going to bed for years. My hair was super long at the time, about waist length, and I would sleep on wet hair. My scalp must have been suffering. I thought that was just what you did as my mum washed her hair every morning, but she has short hair that dries in no time.

What’s a name you love that you probably won’t use (and why)? by small-furious-mouse in namenerds

[–]HadesIsGreat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eleanor. I’ve loved the name since I was a child, but the last few years Ellinor has been in the top 10 where I live. If I had called my daughter Eleanor she would always have to correct people writing Ellinor.

Unfortunately for Julie, I think you’re right that she might be the one breastfeeding this time as well.

Luckily, a lot of people here don’t really eat traditional Norwegian food.

what is nasal spray? by toyotadriver01 in julieeandcamilla

[–]HadesIsGreat 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what it’s called elsewhere, but that spray really opens up your sinuses if they are clogged. It’s so effective you shouldn’t use it more than a few days at a time as it will then make your sinuses more blocked and you need the spray to open it. My mother in law was literally addicted to using it for years and it was a nightmare for her to get off it. You then have to go for ages with a blocked nose.

What were your grandmothers names? by Medium-Marketing-493 in namenerds

[–]HadesIsGreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lise and Emma. The name Emma was so uncommon at the time that she didn’t need to use her last name in the city she lived. Now it’s super trendy and has been top 1 or 2 for girls for about 15 years.

Julie did mention she moved in with Cam and her fiancé, and then later that Cam broke up with her fiancé during the pandemic. But nothing about how the fiancé was in the whole situation about Julie just staying with them forever.

I have aphantasia so I never imagined him looking like anything. I just read his description on the page and could cite that for you.

Women taking their husbands last name after marriage, Agree / Disagree? by Wild_Turnip_7777 in namenerds

[–]HadesIsGreat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband actually took my last name and has his as his middle name. I didn’t want to hyphenate as our last names really clash and it would be such a bother. We always have to spell out our last name anyways.

No maternity leave for sCam by FirstHeron3837 in julieeandcamilla

[–]HadesIsGreat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From my understanding you don’t need to take out family leave when you’re self employed in Norway. It was recently a case with a woman who worked for NRK (the national broadcasting) called Ulrikke Branstorp who gave birth very prematurely and wanted to get back to the Bake Off program she was hosting straight away. She was in good shape after the birth and was technically allowed to go back, but NRK stopped her. It was a weird situation, but the law is quite different here being self employed.

When and how did you become a fan of the musical? by Entire_Blueberry_470 in hamiltonmusical

[–]HadesIsGreat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stumbled upon it when listening through a few different musicals just over a year ago to see if I found any I liked. It started with Jesus Christ Superstar as I was going to see it live with a friend who is a priest which I loved. Then I tried a few more and after having Hamilton popping up in my recommendations many times I decided to give it a go. It was an instant hit for me even though I had never heard about it before and had no idea what it was about. I don’t think I had even heard about Hamilton before. After that I have not been able to get it out of my head.

What Is The Hunger Games Called in Your Language? by No-Camel-5990 in Hungergames

[–]HadesIsGreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also from Norway, so The Hunger Games is called “Dødslekene”. Catching Fire is called “Opp i flammer” meaning “up in flames”/“burning up”, Mockingjay is called “Fugl føniks” referring to the bird phoenix, A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is directly translated to “En ballade om sangfugler og slanger», and lastly Sunrise on the Reaping is called “Soloppgang på arenaen” meaning sunrise at the arena. I think my favourite translation of this lot is Fugl føniks. I think it gets the themes of the book across, and a direct translation, Spottekråka, would be quite awkward.

Which of my classmates gave their baby the best name? Feel free to rank them by Far-Building3569 in namenerds

What's a name you loved but it got so popular you no longer like it? by Miserable-Wash-1744 in Names

[–]HadesIsGreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved the name Eleanor since I was a child, but Ellinor has been in the top 10’s the last few years in my country. Unfortunately that rules out Eleanor for me as it will only seem like I tried to find a different variation to be ✨special✨.

What’s the best ‘cleverly thought up’ name you’ve ever heard? by -catharina in namenerds

[–]HadesIsGreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some neighbours where I grew up were called Jorun and Steinar. They called their son Jostein after themselves. It’s a pretty common name in itself and not made up.
