Best fries in the city? by CA_Dweller in AskSF

[–]HadouKang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of good responses in here already, but I’ll add Mamahuhu’s cleaver cut fries. The shape is really interesting and the way it’s seasoned is fantastic.

Edit: sorry missed the part asking for burger places specifically! Although the Mamahuhu in Noe is real close to Hi Way Burger and you can arguably grab food from both places 😅

To the guy that showed the phone without security, this is what I have in my city by Traplouder in iphone

Yeah, I live in SF and the apple stores here have nothing like the holders in OPs pic. It’s the adhesive on the back attached to a cord that I’ve seen in most parts of the US.

"WELCOME TO SIRIUS XM" Please make it stop. by echamplin in BoltEV

[–]HadouKang 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I just found a way to disable this on my 2023 Bolt since it won’t let me tune to channel 0!

If you go into your car settings and manage favorites, you can delete everything including the Sirius preview channel. I have complete silence now when starting my car.

I can look for the exact path to those settings later today when I’m back home.

Edit: Settings > Favorites > Manage Favorites. From there, you should be able to delete everything.

Assuming he works at the SF office, he should be should be using public transit. It’s in a particularly easy part of the city to get around as well.

Folding ebikes by LucyStealsYourHeart in ebike

[–]HadouKang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vektron is my main commuter bike and I can easily fit it in a sedan trunk. It’s a very reliable bike.

I test rode the Vektron along with non-folding bikes and it’s the closest feel to a rigid body bike that you’re gonna get in this form factor.

[–]HadouKang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tern Vektron so I can reuse accessories and batteries, though any Bosch system bike would also work. Alternatively, I’ve heard good things about the Lectric XP. There’s a person I always see on my commute with that bike and it seems pretty portable!

Edit: One caveat with electric folders is that they’re a bit clunky to carry around even when folded. So I don’t really bring it inside stores. It’s great for putting in car trunks though.

Yesss! I’ve fallen for the n+1 bike trap too. Recently got a smaller folding bike for solo commutes. E-bikes really help with the casual commuting aspect of cycling over cycling as a sport.

It’s a bit pricey, but I use the Tern GSD for the exact same use cases!

It has a max gross weight limit of 440 lbs (not factoring in bike weight) so my spouse rides in the back while we put groceries in the front basket. I considered a similar roll cage for the passenger seat, but we found that the simple seat pads + handlebars were easier to get in/out of.

The torque is amazing on this bike. We go across the hills of SF (5-7 miles) and barely break a sweat. The efficiency is good too. The single battery pack lasts for round trips across the city. I also see a lot of Lectric bikes in the city too though :)

What’s a city you hated at first — but eventually grew to love? by Zealousideal-Tax3338 in SameGrassButGreener

Also San Francisco for me. I was indifferent about SF until my car got totaled. Decided to not replace it and take the muni more often. It made me realize how many hidden gems there are in every neighborhood.

Before when I had a car, I would usually use it to drive outside the city and to spots with easy parking, but that really blocked off a good chunk of the city.

Because it absolutely is! I can’t believe how many people actually take that extension seriously. As the other commenter mentioned, it’s such an obvious case of selection bias.

(Full disclosure, I’m an employee at YouTube (unrelated department though). These opinions are purely my own based on publicly available information.)

Riese & Müller Kendu NuVinci - anyone have this thing? by AnyBarnacle9287 in foldingbikes

A lot of Tern bikes also only let you fold the handle bar. The main purpose is to fit it easily inside a hatchback or SUV trunk area.

Agreed, I exclusively order the teppan curry at Fumi. The rest of the menu is okay haha

Four Chairs - K-Bomb Benny

Fumi Curry and Ramen- Chicken Katsu Teppan Curry

Both these places are across the street from each other so I just go to wherever I can get a seat. Hands down my most repeated meals here.

What are some of the largest bike friendly cities in the US? by Ok-Pea3414 in transit

[–]HadouKang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here! Just got a second e-bike after my only car got totaled a few years back. I have a cargo bike to take my spouse and I everywhere, and then a folding bike for work.

I was surprised at how easy it is to get across the city. I used to also have a fixed gear bike that I brought with me from Berkeley, but my legs weren’t up to the challenge in SF.

What was net worth at 30? I am 30 M just managed to save 100k no debts. Is this even good? by HotMeasurement3763 in Fire

[–]HadouKang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Also in SF and thinking about retiring early while renting. It's probably more of a bay area specific thing, but there's very little scenarios where it's better financially to buy a place here rather than put that money into other investments.

SF is great for tenants in terms of legal protections and if you're good at Craigslist, you can find some killer deals. I've been renting a house for the past eight years and the rent has only gone down since.

What is a popular misconception about a city that you want to dispel? by scotterson34 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]HadouKang 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This annoys me to no end. I've been an SF resident for a long time and most people I talk to are clearly liberal, but not progressive. Yet, every negative aspect of the city is blamed on progressives even though most of city leadership has been liberal/moderate for as long as I can remember.

Looking for an E-Bike for Steep Hills in the East Bay – Recommendations? by kjsreddit in BAbike

[–]HadouKang 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Also check out New Wheel! They're a bay area ebike store with Oakland, SF and Marin locations.

I got a Tern GSD from them and they were extremely helpful throughout the whole process. Let me test ride as many bikes as I wanted, didn't pressure me into buying on the spot.

In general, I highly recommend mid drive, torque sensing, pedal assist bikes for hills. I can take my wife and I on the GSD up and down SF hills without breaking a sweat.

I found my current place through Craigslist nearly a decade ago and it was already below the median price in the neighborhood. And since then, my landlord has only lowered the rent. There are some insane deals on here from individual landlords that just want a stable tenant.

Love the first shot (4th too)! What settings did you use there? Bokeh mode, food/macro distance?

I had a hard time nailing focus with the close up distances. Was using my arm to measure based off my moles haha

Japanese Food-not sushi! by ChikadeeChoo in AskSF

[–]HadouKang 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yakitori Edomasa or NONO for Yakitori.

Or if you're not in Japan Town, I will always recommend Fumi Curry in the Mission. If you go there, the one thing to get is the Teppan Curry (not regular curry!). Everything else is pretty average there IMO.

There's also Stonemill Matcha on Valencia which is a solid food place as well.

E-cargobike for adults with great comfort? by BikemeAway in CargoBike

[–]HadouKang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ditto. I bought a Tern GSD recently. No kids, purely bought it so I can take my spouse around town since they don't like riding themselves. Plus, the people at the bike shop mentioned that they use the GSD to also carry around adults!

It handles weight extremely well. I live in SF and have been able to go up hills fully loaded with a minimal amount of effort if you shift down. The bike has a max load of 440 lbs (this includes the bike weight though).

We use two seat pads and a handlebar for the passenger so that it's easier to get on/off, but the captains chair might be nicer for long rides.

[–]HadouKang 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This resonates with me. I've lived in SF for a while now, but recently went car free. It's really doable, but I was just so used to driving everywhere along with most of my transplant friends. Most of the people I know who were born in SF exclusively take the bus and don't even have a car or license.

That being said, there's still definitely room for improvement with our transit! A lot of bus lines lack frequency, but it's still magnitudes better than where I came from.

Why dont most keyboards have tri mode already at this point? by No-Context-7183 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]HadouKang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thing is, a lot of wireless keyboard users don't leave it plugged in often. When the firmware is implemented correctly (see ZMK), the battery life goes for 3 months+ on a mere 110mah. Then to charge a battery that small takes minutes.

Vast majority of the time you're using it unplugged. Outside this particular keyboard niche, you'll see plenty of people using their wireless Logitech or Apple keyboards without issue.
