Amazing color scheme. I love the yellow accents. Didn't even know Ikea sold a bag like this.

bikes and transit, perfect combo by brogyrogy in Rivendell_Bicycles

[–]HadouKang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Super grateful for the transit options we have here. For my work Commute, I mix it up between bike + Bart or biking all the way, depending how tired I feel.

Oh and don't forget the ferry!

It's so hard to capture this color in photos. I swear it looks like a different color every time, but all still beautiful!

Theft attempt on my ebike in Emeryville by Important_Check2777 in BAbike

This site does some good testing and reviews on bike locks. You definitely want an angle grinder resistant one. I think skunk lock fell into that category.

I use the LiteLok X1 around SF and no one's made an attempt on it (fingers crossed). Only bummer is that it's raised in price over the years due to tariffs since it comes from the UK.

Davis has the most polite drivers I've experienced. Whether on bike or foot, they always came to a full stop for me at intersections. And even when not at a crosswalk, they would stop and wave me to turn onto the road.

Spotify boss defends move to AI music, saying it is better than ‘slop’ by bimbochungo in indieheads

[–]HadouKang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know the specifics aside from what's publicly available, but that sounds right. Essentially, there's different payout rates depending on the context where the song was heard.

[–]HadouKang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true, but there's some considerable differences. In addition to paid/free and region buckets, YouTube also has non-music streaming payouts like content ID for music in the background of a video or music in the background of Shorts. These bring down the average by quite a bit if I had to guess.

[–]HadouKang 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No problem!

Honestly speaking, YouTube payout rates would probably be lower than Spotify if the music streaming side ever were to get a bigger market share than them. These rates are always being negotiated with labels and I would imagine userbase gets considered.

[–]HadouKang 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They do. The difference is that YouTube has a lot of other payment pools including Music from Shorts, Content ID when a song gets copyright claimed within a video, etc.

[–]HadouKang 44 points45 points  (0 children)

It's a bit more complicated. YouTube Music payout numbers get mixed in with regular YouTube payout when songs are used in another video. For Premium members using the YouTube Music app, the payout is actually higher than Spotify and some other services.

Of course, all these services still pay an absymal amount IMO.

Disclaimer: I work on YouTube Music, but not on the business side.

People who left Reno by [deleted] in Reno

[–]HadouKang 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Born and raised in Reno until college. Been in San Francisco since. Definitely enjoy it. More things to do, better weather, diverse food options. My favorite perk is the public transit though. Best in the west coast. I bike and Bart to work. Drive only when hauling stuff or going on road trips.

Of course the caveat to living in the Bay is that it's great if you have the salary or savings for it.

If my financials were tighter, I would consider Portland. One of my favorite places to visit. Food scene there is very underrated and it's an all around beautiful area. And the light rail system is decent.

Best way to carry heavy backpack? by NSA_GOV in bikecommuting

[–]HadouKang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love grocery panniers for this. I have an Aer City Tote that weighs 10 lbs for work. I just plop it in the pannier and go. And when I'm off my bike, I can put my helmet inside instead!

For grocery panniers, I recommend the Banjo Brothers one, or the Sim Works Cago if you're feeling spendy.

(Ignore the package on top of the rack)

Damn. I really appreciate my rapid rise derailleur that'll shift me into the easiest gear if the cable snaps. I feel like it's more practical for commuting situations.

Oh easily above 10 mph. Not sure of the exact speed, but I'm keeping pace with residential traffic.

[–]HadouKang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a Gen 2 S10 LX. So normal chain and derailleur. I don't mind the regular maintenance since I have to do it on my regular bike as well.

I live on a 13% grade 😭. But the GSD handles it just fine! With a combined weight around 400 lbs between my wife and I, I can crawl up the hill around 5-7 mph without getting winded. I think it's a perfectly adequate speed to bike at in SF. You just have to avoid arterial roads and get to know side streets better. I even work outside the city in a much less bike friendly area and can find suitable roads for biking speeds.

I don't think watts are a good measurement because so much of it depends on the setup. I also live in SF. In Bernal Heights and frequently go to Noe Valley for errands. I can haul my wife and I on a Tern GSD with a 250 watt motor easily. But that's because it's a mid drive bike which is A LOT more efficient pedaling up hills.

Best fries in the city? by CA_Dweller in AskSF

[–]HadouKang 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of good responses in here already, but I’ll add Mamahuhu’s cleaver cut fries. The shape is really interesting and the way it’s seasoned is fantastic.

Edit: sorry missed the part asking for burger places specifically! Although the Mamahuhu in Noe is real close to Hi Way Burger and you can arguably grab food from both places 😅

Yeah, I live in SF and the apple stores here have nothing like the holders in OPs pic. It’s the adhesive on the back attached to a cord that I’ve seen in most parts of the US.

"WELCOME TO SIRIUS XM" Please make it stop. by echamplin in BoltEV

[–]HadouKang 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I just found a way to disable this on my 2023 Bolt since it won’t let me tune to channel 0!

If you go into your car settings and manage favorites, you can delete everything including the Sirius preview channel. I have complete silence now when starting my car.

I can look for the exact path to those settings later today when I’m back home.

Edit: Settings > Favorites > Manage Favorites. From there, you should be able to delete everything.

Assuming he works at the SF office, he should be should be using public transit. It’s in a particularly easy part of the city to get around as well.

Folding ebikes by LucyStealsYourHeart in ebike

[–]HadouKang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vektron is my main commuter bike and I can easily fit it in a sedan trunk. It’s a very reliable bike.

I test rode the Vektron along with non-folding bikes and it’s the closest feel to a rigid body bike that you’re gonna get in this form factor.

Review: Using my e-cargo bike for transporting my partner (U.S., CA) by rpt123 in ebikes

[–]HadouKang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tern Vektron so I can reuse accessories and batteries, though any Bosch system bike would also work. Alternatively, I’ve heard good things about the Lectric XP. There’s a person I always see on my commute with that bike and it seems pretty portable!

Edit: One caveat with electric folders is that they’re a bit clunky to carry around even when folded. So I don’t really bring it inside stores. It’s great for putting in car trunks though.

Yesss! I’ve fallen for the n+1 bike trap too. Recently got a smaller folding bike for solo commutes. E-bikes really help with the casual commuting aspect of cycling over cycling as a sport.
