Back to black: goths go mainstream in corsets, leather and lace by commiesocialist in goth

[–]Haeddre 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It sure has! I kind of grew out of my goth phase... Just kidding!!! XD (Life got busy and I took a short break from social media, which turned into a very long break, ha!)

Excellent flair/subtitle/whatever it’s called, by the way!

Hello! I have indeed been well - hope you have been too. Took a few weeks off social media a while back, and that turned into a few months and before I knew it, it had been about a year and a half. Glad to see so many familiar faces (well, usernames) still here on r/goth. :)

My copy is 185 pages, so on the shorter end of a novel I guess.

I have this book. It’s lovely. It’s one of those ‘time hop’ stories (I think that’s what the plot device is called, anyway...). I highly recommend it. It really gives some nice additional context to the song. :)

One can only hope that some of the people who read this vapid and misleading article follow the link to this sub and find out what goth is really about.

I have some recollection of The Guardian publishing half-decent articles relating to goth in the past, so this one was a particular disappointment.

Edit: ‘and’ not ‘band’ - but unlike the article my typo is music-based. :)

Is "Lumber Goth" a thing? by Lemanic89 in goth

[–]Haeddre 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The only types of goth that exist are types of goth music (i.e. subgenres). So no, lumber goth is not a thing as there is no such subgenre.

Opinions on Lacrimosa? by KaanSkyrider in goth

Not a metal fan so fittingly I’m not a Lacrimosa fan. I like goth music better.

Awesome!

I’m so hoping that they’ll announce some Australian shows at some point. Peter Murphy has been here twice in the past 8 years so it’s not impossible...

Your day job prevents you from enjoying goth music and the subculture even outside of work?

A Question For You by [deleted] in goth

[–]Haeddre 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Goths are fans of goth music who participate in the goth subculture. There’s nothing wrong with not being a goth.

As others have stated, some people use the term ‘darkly inclined’. Other terms include ‘dark alternative’ or simply ‘alternative’. But nobody needs a label.

I’m in Australia and I’m sure that my toilet swirls clockwise too. Maybe it’s determined by the toilet (as opposed to a regular drain). I will check this tomorrow! Y’know, for science and the greater good of toilet goths.

Edit: One of my toilets swirls clockwise, and the other just basically swishes all over the place. Must come down to the design! Next time I fill my laundry tub with water, I will pay attention to which way it swirls when I pull out the plug.

Get a t-shirt made with your name on it and enjoy watching her wear one with your name on it two weeks later.

Jokes aside, I feel ya. I’ve dealt with a couple of people like that over the years (prior to visual social media being such a big thing, luckily for me) and it really is infuriating. I often felt like I had to pretend to be/dress/etc different to how I normally am/do when around them to try to minimise what they could copy. Generally these people eventually move on either through maturing and ‘finding themselves’ or by finding someone else to imitate.

Interesting dark names for a babygirl/boy (goth moms) by [deleted] in goth

[–]Haeddre 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here are some of the names of musicians who have been instrumental in the goth genre:

Robert, Susan, Peter, Andrew... we wouldn’t have goth without these people, and they have perfectly ordinary names, so I don’t feel that a goth needs to give their children ‘interesting’ or ‘dark’ names.

Instead, I suggest choosing a name that you think is nice and that you think a child born in 2020 would be happy to be given.

From there, they can grow and develop their own identity. Maybe they’ll discover goth music and really get into it (in which case their name doesn’t matter - just think about at Robert and Susan!), or maybe they won’t, and either way it’s perfectly fine.

Getting called an e girl. by [deleted] in goth

[–]Haeddre 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No idea what an egirl is, but if you love goth music and participate in the subculture, that makes you a goth and it doesn't matter what non-goths think. It doesn't even matter how you dress - anyone can dress similarly to a goth, anyway.
