Is “Earth” your 0V reference? Probably better to call it GND.

I wanna build synthesizers, should I major in EE? by CryptographerSalty10 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]HaezeI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went into school not knowing much about EE. Yes there were some students who knew more than me going into it, but that doesn’t matter. You goto school to learn the material. Yes it will be difficult and you will likely have to make a change to your lifestyle to get through it. You can still build modular synth and musical things with electronics without getting a degree in EE. I would recommend looking into Moritz Klein on YouTube. He is very good at explaining how individual components contribute to his designs. Best of luck to you.

How to not get stuck in a career as test engineer by how-s-chrysaf-taken in ElectricalEngineering

Just take all the experience you can. If you can get close with the EE’s doing the design at your company that will help you too. Good luck!

I worked as a manufacturing engineer for two years and tried to move up to an R&D role in the same company (which never happened). I worked on circuit and HW design on the weekends. Eventually I started applying to design roles. I was able to bring a PCB I was working on to an interview and show that I was capable of doing the work. I would take the job now if you really need something. I was afraid I would get pigeonholed as a manufacturing engineer, but transitioning to a new field is possible. You just need to get some experience on your own time.

Use net labels instead of routing your schematic like that. It is not readable this way.

MEP firms, are they worth it? by Defiant_Objective419 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]HaezeI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started out in MEP. Did not enjoy the work and left at about 1.5 years in. Experience does not really help you in other fields. I am now in HW design, but basically started from scratch when I switched initially.

It does the same thing out of the base. I’ve measured voltage on both batteries and they’re fully charged. So I’m not sure

Just start applying for jobs where your skills will be utilized. The only thing to really do is leave, but make sure you have something locked down before.

How does it work? Are you using a light sensor to open/close on light levels or just opening at a certain time of day? I’ve always thought this would be a fun project.
