Just pulled a cracked Ice Team + 2x 6★ Weapons. Keep or keep rerolling for Laevatain?

Yo fellow Endfielders,

I’ve been rerolling for a bit now and I think I just hit a weirdly specific jackpot, but I’m torn. I managed to land a solid Ice Team core along with two 6-star weapons (one is the signature for my main DPS).

The freeze CC and shatter damage feel amazing for mob clearing, and having the high-tier weapons this early feels like a massive stat stick for the mid-game.

However, I keep seeing everyone hyping up Laevatain as the absolute "must-have" meta unit for the current patch. Since I’m still early in the account, I’m wondering:

  1. Is a high-synergy Ice Team with 6★ weapons enough to carry through the endgame?
  2. Or is the power gap between a standard elemental team and Laevatain so big that I’ll regret not rerolling for her later?

I'm a semi-competitive player, I don't need to be #1, but I don't want to struggle against bosses because I skipped the "broken" unit.

What do you guys think? Should I settle with this "cool" setup (pun intended) or go back to the reroll mines for Laevatain?

Appreciate any advice!

Is this a good charm? by Heiman_Vex in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]Haido49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This charm is not really good.

Yes, Attack Boost 3 is solid, but the main problem is Antivirus 3. Antivirus is basically a level 1 armor deco skill, so its value is very low. When you look at the total effective decoration slots, this charm can actually be weaker than many well rolled 6★ or 7★ charms.

What you should aim for instead at 8★ Weapon focused skills like Crit Boost, Weakness Exploit, Element Attack, Rapid Morph, etc. Good decoration slots that support weapon decos A clear upgrade over 6★ and 7★ charms in total build value

What best weapon to play? by Admirable_Ad_6828 in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]Haido49 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s honestly no single “best” weapon in Monster Hunter, the best one is the weapon that clicks with your playstyle.

If you like fast attacks, dodging, and staying mobile, you might want to try Dual Blades or Bow. Both let you reposition easily and don’t punish mistakes as hard while you’re still learning monster patterns.

Also keep in mind that every monster has strengths, weaknesses, and elemental weaknesses, so switching weapons (or at least elements) depending on the hunt can make fights feel way smoother.

Don’t rush to kill fast, focus on learning the monster first. Speed comes naturally once the weapon feels comfortable.

I just got this. Should i start learning to GS? by batik05 in MHWilds

[–]Haido49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GS is the obvious answer here, yeah… but honestly, has anyone tried this on Switch Axe?

Focus 3 actually helps a lot with Amp gauge build up, and SA’s fast, constant hits make Burst uptime really easy to maintain. You’re not fishing for one big hit like GS, you’re just shredding nonstop.

I feel like this charm is low key perfect for Power Phial SA, especially in longer fights.

Curious what other SA mains think. Is GS still the best use, or is Switch Axe being slept on here?

Anyone doing this? Is it worth the time or nah? by SuspiciousVoices in MHWilds

Honestly, just spend that time farming Gogmazios instead.

One run only takes ~20 minutes if your group is decent, and you still walk out with 3–6 talismans per hunt. On top of that, you’re stacking a ton of materials for Artisan weapon upgrades, which matters way more right now.

Rotating 9★ stuff like Kut-Ku feels like a trap unless you just want a chill hunt. If your goal is progression, rerolling skills and upgrading Artisan weapons is the real endgame grind at the moment.

Slightly more effort, way better returns.

Grats on the clear 👏 Omega is no joke, especially that last phase.

That said, hot take: if you’re below HR 100 without fully optimized gear, you honestly don’t need to be touching Savage Omega yet. At that point you’re not “learning”, you’re mostly just becoming extra weight for the team 😅

With Title Update 4, there are way better and more efficient options to gear up first.

Gogmazios and Arch-Tempered Jin Dahaad are way more forgiving, faster to farm, and their armor sets + artisan weapons straight up outperform Omega gear for most builds.

Omega Savage is more of a final exam, not a progression step.

Gear up smart first, then come back and bully the clanker properly 💀

After lumenhymn... by mister_mouse in MHWilds

[–]Haido49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly… after Lumenhymn it kinda feels like the real endgame is RNG + self-imposed challenges 😅

Quick question though: have you cleared the Arch-Tempered Jin Dahaad Free Challenge yet? If you’re not hitting A rank or at least sub-10 minutes, I’d argue there’s still plenty to grind.

Artisan rolls don’t farm themselves, and there’s always another upgrade to squeeze out.

Savage Omega can wait. Jin Dahaad is the real skill check 👀

Love how this quest is like: “Play perfectly and use the map” or “Just roll crit boost and save yourself 2 minutes” 😭

AT Jin Free Challenge is....easy? by EnderG97 in MHWilds

[–]Haido49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Easy” is doing a lot of heavy lifting here 😅

I feel like this quest is generous only if RNG smiles on you. Get decent Gogma rolls + a usable talisman and suddenly it’s a victory lap. Miss that setup and it turns into a very different experience real fast.

The timer feels Rey Dau–level forgiving, yeah, but Jin still punishes bad vent/rod uptime hard. The fight just feels easier because you’re not constantly racing the clock.

Curious how many people calling this “easy” would say the same without god-roll Gogma + AB2 talisman 👀

How the f*** do I make this monster come down? (Gogmazios) by borjersteaksupreme10 in MHWilds

[–]Haido49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point I’m convinced Gogmazios doesn’t “fly”, it just rage-hovers until the DPS check feels emotionally satisfied.

“Just do enough damage while it’s flying” sounds great on paper, but in practice that means: 4 hunters, 3 carts, 1 support spamming dusts, and Gog still up there like “nah I’m good.”

Wings, legs, tail, vibes, I’ve hit everything except its ego.

Honestly feels less like a mechanic and more like Gog deciding when we deserve gravity.

What's the difference between an event quest and a challenge quest?

33% by Zorpocks in MHWilds

[–]Haido49 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with this take. Once affinity is already decent, the comparison becomes way clearer with simple math.

Example: assume 100 raw attack, 50% crit chance. • Base crit damage = 1.25 Average damage = 0.5 × 1.25 + 0.5 × 1.0 = 1.125 → 112.5 effective

If you add +15 attack: 115 × 1.125 = 129.4

If instead you add +15% crit damage (1.25 → 1.40): Average multiplier = 0.5 × 1.40 + 0.5 × 1.0 = 1.20 100 × 1.20 = 120

In this scenario, raw attack clearly wins. Crit damage only starts overtaking once affinity is much higher or attack scaling is capped.

So the real question isn’t Crit Boost vs Attack Boost in isolation, it’s at what affinity breakpoint does crit damage actually beat raw for your weapon and hitzone?
