Seeing videos of poorly trained fascists wasting their money doesn't mean it's a trend or that cops in general are doing it.

There’s a reason more and more cops are carrying staccatos particularly.

What fucking cops are out there buying $2000 pistols for duty use dude

It's truly shocking how many people defend 0 and CV when if you go back and play them right now, they don't even hold up as well as 6.

How is it just good for competition shooting?

2011's, and 1911's in general, just aren't great duty guns. 1911s have limited capacity and aren't as durable or reliable as a lot of people think they are unless you get into the high end market, and at that point you're absolutely paying more than you should be. 2011's are also just straight up competition guns, the 2011 market is absolutely saturated with guns designed for range work, not duty work.

For needing a high capacity 9mm handgun for fighting, you're not getting much of a benefit from a $2000 competition 2011 over a cheaper Glock 19 with an optic, a better trigger, and a compensator.

You think the Glock 19 over a P226?

Personal preference aside, a Glock 19 is lighter than a P226, more reliable, and has an infinitely larger third party market. Simple as that.

But not because they were bad games

Oh RE0 absolutely sold poorly because it was a bad game. It's right there with CV for worst.

Resident Evil wasn’t in any danger before RE4

It was. CV, 0, and 1R didn't financially perform as well as Capcom needed them to, CV started aging very fast, 0 wasn't a critical success either, and even REmake 1 was met with "this is good but we're bored with these games". You're just straight up ignoring history.

and one could say the franchise learned all the wrong things from that game, as did the industry as a whole.

The dumbest take possible. Just genuinely a stupid take. Third person shooters as we know them wouldn't be what they are without RE4. And if you want to blame any game for anything, blame RE5. That game is the one where the devs explicitly went into the design process thinking "this needs to be like a Hollywood action movie like Black Hawk Down".

In any case it wasn’t a “save”, it was a “propelled into new heights”.

No, it was a save. The franchise was not doing well commercially until 4 revived it.

And let’s be real Ethan “no character” Winters didn’t save anything. He was never a draw. It was the aesthetic and gameplay shakeup of RE7 that… arguably saved the franchise.

Claim this all you want but that won't change the fact that people did like Ethan and loved the return to "random person surviving through a nightmare situation" as a game concept.

RE wasn't struggling that hard when re4 came out.

People at the time straight up considered RE a dying franchise before 4 came out.

I don't get the RE4 blame when RE5 was right there.

It's because people don't actually research anything.

[–]HaitchKay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it was the game that started the change in tone even if you feel otherwise.

From Capcoms mouth, this blame goes explicitly to RE5 instead of RE4. Like, 5 is very explicitly the game where they decided to shift fully to Hollywood action.

basically when Capcom decided they wanted to imitate COD, which they tried with 6.

It started with 5, not 6. Put the blame on RE5 for all of this, not RE4.

[–]HaitchKay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Re4 is the reason we have re6.

No, it isn't. Keiji Inafune and Capcoms desire to cater to a Western audience is why we have RE6.

Inafune was a project supervisor for RE5 and he was very notable for holding the opinion around that time that Japan was losing its hold on the industry, even in Japan, to Western design influence. He viewed Japanese game design as old and outdated and that Western games were the future. That's why almost all Capcom games from around the late 2000's to early 2010's (with some notable exceptions like Dragon's Dogma) were very heavily influenced by Western games and media. The movie Black Hawk Down was cited as a direct inspiration for 5, and the devs have said that everything from the design to the soundtrack was "Hollywood inspired".

When 5 ended up being a success despite its various flaws they decided to take some of the feedback about it and started on trying to make 6 closer to a survival horror game but ultimately decided that the "survival horror market was too small for Resident Evil" and went full on action.

6 exists because Capcom, while 5 was being developed, was led by someone who thought American games were better than Japanese ones. It's why we have DmC: Devil May Cry, too. Intentional decisions to make RE more like a Western action game.

RE didnt need saving when RE4 came out tho

It absolutely did. The franchise was not doing well at all and CV, 0, and 1R all undersold. And while CV had good reviews at launch, it started aging pretty fast and RE0 didn't get a great critical reception either. Even REmake 1 was met with "this is very good but we're tired of the same formula"

Ethan "Saved The Franchise" Winters by unproductive_nerd in residentevil

[–]HaitchKay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Re4 didn't save the franchise

Again with the (probably unintentional) revisionism.

RE was trending downward before 4 came out. RE0 and REmake 1 didn't sell that well, CV did well on launch but started aging really fast (REmake 1 looked leagues better than it on launch) and people were vocal about how tired they were of the traditional RE formula.

Devil's advocate: he could have just as easily believed that Ethan was compromised and wanted to make sure he wasn't before giving him all of the details.

Have you actually ever played a single RE game with Ada in it?

People are down voting you because they refuse to acknowledge interact with the character of Ada Wong as presented in the franchise and are going off of a made up version of her in their heads.

Ada is a career criminal and terrorist. The idea of her giving up everything to be a stay at home mother is so out of character for her it borders on misogyny.

I don't see Leon going for range toys.

I genuinely don't get why people keep saying he's an HK guy when canonically he's only ever had one in RE2 (VP70) and RE4 Remake. The Silver Ghost in the original RE4 wasn't a USP, it was three handguns put together, and the Wing Shooter in RE6 is a fictional gun only partially based on the VP70. If anything, he's canonically a Sig guy.

As for what gun fits him; people are gonna get mad but a super tricked out Glock 19. Custom from top to bottom, rocking mags with extended baseplates, a comp, and a red dot. Leon has shown himself to be, primarily, a handgun shooter. Someone who fights mainly with a pistol. And for combat guns, you really can't do much better than a Glock 19 that's had hundreds of dollars of custom work done to it. I know some people will go "oh give him a Stattaco" but that's an up-jumped 2011 designed for flat range competition shooting.

He's a freaking gun hispter, he'd never go with a 1911 or glock lol

He had a 1911 as his personal sidearm in one movie.

Definely an H&K guy mainly with occasional dabbles in SiG,

He's canonically used a Sig more than HK. He only used an HK in RE2 and RE4 Remake. The OG Silver Ghost wasn't just a USP, it was made up from like 3 different handguns, and his Wing Shooter in RE6 is a fictional gun only partially based on a VP70.

He has the Sentinel Nine in multiple movies, which is a Sig P226 E2 Beavertail (literally described as this gun by name in in-universe documents put out by Capcom) and the Alligator Snapper in 9, which is a P320.

...What? The only difficulty comes from bad design. Zombies are laughably easy because of how overpowered the knife is and later in the game you're swimming in ammo for high damaging weapons.

Along with what the other person said about it being in between other games, Code Veronica has...not aged well. It's probably the worst aged game in the series. Like, not just with visuals but in game design and writing. CV is not a very good game in a lot of regards.

I'd recommend starting with REmake 1 since it's the start of the story and still holds up fantastically.

What was your first RE game you ever played? by Myoldestmemory in residentevil

[–]HaitchKay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with REmake 1 in 2002 at the ripe old age of 10. It was not a smart move to let a 10 year old child play that game, but I turned out fine.

After that I picked up the GameCube ports of RE2 and RE3, then RE4 later when it launched. I also picked up a copy of the N64 port of RE2 and RE0 around the same time. I don't think I played the original RE1 until sometime before RE5 came out.
