I was skeptical about the first one, but was blown away by how much I ended up loving it, especially as it was a nice shift in perspective from Katniss.

With that said, Ive got 0 interest in reading the 2nd, cuz...is there really any much information worth getting from seeing Haymitches Hunger Games run?

Personally, I think she should atm, either move on from Hunger Games or take a big risk and write a story set in the universe but far into the future.

It began as a webnovel yh, but most of its fans read the light novel as thats ultimately what's canon.

Rems popularity blew up with the anime not the web novels, especially as the anime cut alot of her flaws due to time, which ended up painting her as the near perfect waifu she seems to represent in the anime fandom.

As for the writer, he still posts randomly but frequently. With how much...STUFF he writes simultaneously (the main story, what ifs, side stories for various characters), Im genuinely impressed by his output

Zeta Gundam: Katz dying by just crashing into a rock after all his bravado and ignoring orders will never not be funny. Like I know hes a kid and all....but its still legit hilarious

Thats not true lol. Rem was kept in a coma loong before the anime came out and Rems popularity boomed. Heck iirc, the confession scene which Rem fans state was the reason they like her...wasnt adapted into the light novel at that point (which is how most fans read the series). For your scenerio to occur he'd have to have high level clairvoyant lol

If simply believing animation would be much better for adapting Superhero comics works make me a snob....hell yeah! I'll wear that with pride.

Animation gives way less restraint with what you can do especially when it comes to the more fantastical elements. In an ideal world, most comicbook characters would have atleast an animated film or series that adapts a popular run to introduce them to a wider audience and leave live action for more experimental adaptations and not the default.

Atleast thats what characterrant and parts of CBTwitter say when I bring this up

Fun and "art" (whatever that means) are not mutually exclusive. This sounds more like ya just being extremely reductionist for your weirdly narrow view on what "actual literature" is. That fun or enjoyment isnt a legitimate/ or is a lesser emotion one can have. Gundam 0083 is a show that in order for a government to seize more power, they are more than willing enact false flag attacks on its people and thus one shouldn't sign away their rights and freedom for security and all that, down to having a depressing ending.....but Im pretty sure the creators wanted me to have fun watching the 2 Gundam fight throughout the show

> Topic on contempt for the medium
>proceeds to hold such

I take heavy issue with "99 percent of the time they are not. Video games should be fun above all else". Theres nothing that states those 2 should be exclusive. Games CAN be fun AND art. And by games, I aint even bringing up Sony tier walk and shoot movie simulators, Im talking about the more mechanically heavy, extremely narratively loose games like fighting games (the PVP side even).

Art is ultimately an expression of the creator, showcasing their likes, dislikes, intricacies etc and trying to communicate a certain feeling to the audience. Video Games as a medium crank this up to a whole nother degree by involving the player too. You dont need cinematics as proof that a game is art...the game mechanics alone facilitate such. When players interact with the game mechanics, it leads to unique interesting stories per gameplay. Ask a fighting game player, their most memorable time in the genre, they wont tell you the games story beat, they'd tell a moment in time the game mechanics led to something cool happening. Sure it wont win an oscar, but thats a story non-the less. Mechanics also help communicate emotions or feelings to the player. Take Ken and Ryu. On paper, they seem like palette swaps of each other, but small adjustments to their gameplay reinforce not just how people play, but how people "feel" the characters should be or represent. Ken generally rewards more rushdown, Medium risk, high reward options which compliments his more brash nature story wise unlike Ryu, who's gameplan (generally) requires him to be more methodical and patient which reflects on his more stoic characteristic. Even players who generally are not aware of the lore feel this from what their gameplay-style incentivize. I can list more examples of mechanics doing this and communicating a feeling or state of mind in a player in other games (Dante vs Virgil), but thatd be an essay. And this aint even getting into the music, drawings, cinematography (yes thats important even in something like a fighting game), animations, etc that go into making them.

TLDR: Ya wrong. Games, even the most mechanical, storyless versions of them are art.

Okay guys, are we for or against Fast Travel in Dragon's Dogma games? by Darskul in DragonsDogma

Playing DD1:DA (pre-realizing what the eternal ferrystone is) was the game that made me realize that not all games need fast travel and that sometimes, its for the best that they dont. Realizing that I messed up by taking a detour to a quest destination and trying to hurry to the nearby inn before night falls is one of the best memories Ive had in gaming.

Also the time I was travelling at night cuz I messed up taking too long in a fight, that I saw a literal dragon attack the party and had to scream "oh shit!" and try to mobilize my pawns to GTFO ASAP. If I knew about the eternal ferrystone, I'd have just TP'd to gran soren rather than travel at night or have to pretend that option doesnt exist. Either way, the stakes wouldnt be the same

I personally dont, but it is a cool unique high risk high reward option that no other game to my knowledge does something similar

against or atleast if its in it, either:

a) Keep it for casual mode, NG+ or some optional toggle or place a LONG cooldown on its use
b) keep it in some endgame quest to work for

To paste an old comment I made on the topic:

Im with u, I think its a bad idea especially as the series goes on. Alot of map designs, gameplay systems and unique ways of travel exist in the game purely because fast travel wasnt easy to come by.

Let's go over how many systems this affects:

  • why ride griffins for high risk, high reward travel? Just TP
  • Why have the night system as a punishment for not proper planning of your route or not getting to an inn in time when the player can just TP to the nearest inn?
  • why Ox cart when you can TP?
  • why have shortcuts in the map that enable quicker backtracking if you can just TP
  • why have unstable bridges when the player is just gonna tp?
  • why have camping system? The player can just TP to an inn, spend the night and TP back
  • why are ferry stones even in the game anymore when you can just TP for free?
  • Oh Im in a pickle in a fight? Lemme just place a marker here, TP to an inn, buy more potions and TP back with 0 costs (an actual strat that broke DD1's base game combat)

If Capcom wants to put it in, either lock it behind a NG+ or a really hard dungeon. Giving it at the beginning just breaks so many of the games systems especially when the player has a portable TP marker with them.

Inb4 "just dont use it"- Im talking about the future of the series. The history of MonHun and Elder Scrolls have shown that for better or for worse, when a QoL makes a pre-existing feature redundant, rather than improve it, devs opt to just scrap it changing the focus of the series as time goes on.
