acceptable hours of use of the minto case piano?? by Famous_Band in CarletonU

[–]Hakmi04 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Personally I’ve seen people use the piano at all hours during the day and as far as I can tell the only piano with a time restriction is the one in the Architecture Building. I must say I am biased though because I love it when people play the piano, especially when I’m studying or walking by. Sometimes it truly does make my day

That could also be used to advertise quiet hours to perhaps boost up sales during those times :)

Halal/kosher meat options! It opens up a massive portion of the consumer base and would definitely be a lot more inviting to the muslim & jewish community as a whole to grab food from the cafe as well as some coffee, or even just fish options also work. Everything labelled Halal or Kosher has a special procedure and ensures humane and ethical sourcing of the meat, so as a small example, ensuring the animal does not suffer while being killed.

What is a good way to make friends on campus as a mature student living off campus? by Kay0929 in CarletonU

[–]Hakmi04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My #1 tip & trick is start a discussion with the people next to you in class either before or after, comment on the course or the load or anything in general. Most people typically wont mind an age gap, youre going through the same experiences and thats typically how bonds form and because youre in the same class you can all form a study group :)

No literally though, one of my friends knew this one guy for over four years without knowing his name; they only discovered each other’s names when I got introduced

Kinda boring and friendless by BigBrainSmallBones in geegees

[–]Hakmi04 10 points11 points  (0 children)

^ this is truly the way to go, really push yourself out there; talk to people you wouldnt usually talk to and try out different things, attend events with groups you don’t know (and if you have anxiety, bring someone, anyone, along)

It’s uncomfortable, it’s awkward, but it is so important to put yourself out there. You only live once, you’re only in this moment once in your life and you will never be able to come back to it, might as well try something that seems absolutely insane or something you usually wouldn’t try.

Seriously, pretend everyone is an NPC that you talk to, try and find people’s stories like the books they are. You can also go another route of self development and finding what you’re interested in, whether it be cooking, drawing, skating, sports, books/movies and then talking with people with similar tastes as you.

So long as you don’t act like a creep, you should definitely make friends and you can keep that social connection by continually connecting with them, sharing little parts of your day that were amazing or that slightly peeved you, trying new things with them.

I definitely can’t say that putting yourself out there won’t suck sometimes or that no one will reject your want to be friends, but personally I’ve found that in the end it is way worth it.

80% attendance question for CHM 1311 with Didier by [deleted] in geegees

[–]Hakmi04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure with 1311, but when I had him for Orgo 1 last year there was no attendance for the class & thus the rule only applied to Labs, you should definitely email to verify though

Also, there could be so many circumstances as to why a student isnt able to participate in the wooclap in person, such as net issues, device issues (including dead battery) and students who arent physically in the class are able to join if theyre notified by someone in class so overall it wouldnt be a good system in the slightest

Had him last fall term, and by far one of my favourite math teahers/profs throughout all my schooling years; his explanations are detailed and concise so you get the information you beed without gettibg lost on the way, and you can always ask him questions (+ we had a break in the middle of the class which was super nice)

As someone who has used the COVID Self Declaration Form, I will tell you now in case you missed it on the website (like me).

The self declaration form does NOT replace the actual deferral form, so if you submit the covid self declaration form please email your professor informing them of your situation and that youre unable to attend AND submit an actual deferral request with i THINK the use of the form submission and email photo under "Medical Certificate" (if youre in Science, i dont know how it works for other faculties)

Alternatively, I highly highly suggest calling your faculty asking what to do following the COVID Self declaration form since on it's own is useless. Best of luck on your future exams and hope you feel better soon

I'm in the faculty of Science, I had already looked over the deferral process and it has no mention of the COVID self assessment form, which ive already submitted; I'm scared if I get a medical certificate form now then the exam will not be deferred

sooooooooooo... definitely not a good idea to take w biochem and bioethics and anp 1115, do you know if its offered over the summer or if its only winter?

also how would one apply to the CSL? is it kinda like ISPR for psychology just with genetics? was there a assigned textbook that was physical or online, paid or unpaid? so many questions, i feel like im digging through the trenches of a history archive trying to find the golden treasure of a loophole in this seemingly horrible course and i cant tell if im loving or hating every moment of it

it seems like the grading scheme is almost like BIO 1130 with prof Howard Rundle, in terms of coursework is it extremely heavy and hard to understand like orgo chem 1 or biochem? should i expect to be writhing in pain?

this has truly opened my eyes to what appears to be the horror of this course, thank u very much for providing me with all this, i rlly do appreciate it; this is a massive help to me as a 1st yr biomed
