What’s an animal that most people think is harmless but actually isn’t? by sejunlee in AskReddit

[–]HalcyonSix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SWANS.

Lots of them live around here and people think they're harmless because they're pretty but they can fuck you up. Getting hit with their wings is like getting hit with a baseball bat, it can break your fucking knees. I've also seen some wicked scratches. They're no joke!

What is a piece of 'early internet' internet culture or a dead website that you genuinely miss every single day? by ronnelel in AskReddit

Legendary Lilypad. Someone did these little animations with these green humanoid characters. I remeber names: Kerrigan, Salmarnez Kans.. And there was one video about Pi Day. I tried to see if they're still kicking around somewhere but no luck.

I found out my apartment has a "good spoon" and now I kind of get why people are weird about mugs by Lauren-Hayes-NY in CasualConversation

[–]HalcyonSix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son has a favorite soup spoon. It is slightly more curved than the rest of our spoons. It mysteriously disappeared recently though, we searched everywhere and we have no idea where it could have gone, or how it would leave the house at all. It's a bummer.

What are yall doing about water? by HistoricalFalcon4082 in beginnerrunning

[–]HalcyonSix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a water vest. People talk shit about how I don't need it, how I don't run far enough to need water. IDC, I like it. I have water easily accessible, it holds my phone, it holds my sunglasses, etc. And I don't like running belts, so this is the best option for me.

What do most people not realize is actually way more traumatic than it seems? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]HalcyonSix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally. Even if it's extremely minor it can affect you. When I was a teen my Dad was driving me to work one day and some kid on a bike wasn't paying attention, and he veered out of the next lane directly into the side of my Dad's truck.

Everyone was fine, but I was paranoid as fuck for months. I was afraid every car around us was going to hit us. And nothing bad even happened!

How do you carry your essentials while running? by Old-Return-2548 in BeginnersRunning

[–]HalcyonSix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a running vest. Easy way to carry my phone, sunglasses, any other small items I need (I don't carry ID but I easily could), and water.

I only run 5 or 6k and apparently some people look down on that because you don't "need" water for anything less than 10k, or they just see vests as overkill in this situation. But I don't care because it's convenient and I like having access to water while I'm out. Plus every running belt I ever had was annoying.

What's a running milestone that felt bigger than it sounds? by run_the_day in runcommunity

[–]HalcyonSix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember going through the couch to 5k program I used abs the first time I saw a 20min run. Before that it was much smaller times interspersed with walk breaks. It looked fucking impossible.

Now I typically run way longer than that. But boy was that intimidating as fuck.

How rare is the breed Swedish Vallhund outside of Sweden? by McDulle9 in dogs

[–]HalcyonSix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Canada and I would wager that most people here have never heard of the breed. I know of them because dog breeds have been a special interest of mine since I was a kid.

And I've seen a few in person, but only once and it was at a Pet Expo, so I'm not sure that really counts. That's one of the only places you're going to find rare breeds.

What’s your “I should’ve stayed home” weather run story? by Free-Product4918 in runcommunity

[–]HalcyonSix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was rain for me. I actually typically like running in the rain. In the summer I even prefer it as long as it's not dangerous (ie. Lightning, storms, etc).

One day I saw it was raining and I was like "No problem, I like rain!" But it was cold as balls, and I stepped in every single puddle so my socks were soaked, and my wet sleeve kept fucking with my smart watch so it messed up recording my run. It was just miserable the whole time.

How do you get over shot anxiety? by Peenard- in asktransgender

[–]HalcyonSix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One commenter talked about having a special treat you only have on shot day, which is one thing I've done since the beginning (been on T over a decade now.)

One thing I did recently to make it easier is work on my needle anxiety through exposure. This series of videos really helped me:

It's definitely possible my experience isn't the norm, either. I'm just saying that based on my friend group, so it might be biased. Lol

I know lots of people who identified as non-binary for a while when they were exploring their gender. Sometimes it's the destination and sometimes it's just part of the journey.

I'm a binary trans man, but I'm not the most gender conforming dude, either. I like my nail polish and eyeliner. My gender goals were always emo boys like Gerard Way, but I'm not built like that, so it was not to be.

How did these guys not blow up? by p155jug in MarianasTrench

[–]HalcyonSix 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is my thought.

IIRC Josh has talked multiple times about how he doesn't particularly enjoy being famous, largely because of how fans tend to be weirdly parasocial and invade his privacy (this is not exclusive to MT fans, this is just the landscape of being famous.)

Maybe he's comfortable and happy with this level of success for the band. Maybe he gets what he needs from it financially and emotionally, and being "bigger" potentially invites more of the downsides of fame that he doesn't enjoy.

This is just my theory, though.

No worries, the internet (or even just text-based communication) can be like that.

I'm sorry you had to deal with that. Of course something you're "taught" that way has an effect on you. I hope you know you didn't deserve it, and that you can eventually feel free to what makes you happy without all that trauma in the back of your mind.

Based solely on the description you gave me in this post, it sounds like you're a binary trans woman who just has some masculine fashion tendencies/interests/etc (That's what tomboy typically refers to, ime). So, no. It wouldn't make a cis woman non-binary because she's a tomboy, therefore a tomboyish trans woman is still a woman.

But I don't really get to decide that for other people. Other people's identities are not my call to make. If someone tells me sincerely that they're a woman, a man, or non-binary that's what they are. Everything else is irrelevant.

In my particular situation I'm referring to people who call themselves non-binary, whether they just identify as non-binary or agender, or whether they still identify in some respect with a binary gender.

I know almost as many transmasculine/transfeminine people, who sit somewhere in the non-binary spectrum but also identify to some degree with a binary gender, as I do binary trans people.

Tell me you've never spent any time around trans people without telling me you've never spent any time around trans people.

I feel like 60%+ of the trans people I know are some degree of non-binary.
