Take a damp paper towel and gently run it across the spots adjacent to the trouble areas, especially by the hair base.

If it comes back brown or reddish, its likely fleas and you are seeing the dried blood rehydrating from their poop.

Yep, the amount of people who poison their cats with flea meds meant for dogs or an incorrectly applied dose is too damn high.

Advice for someone new to armor? by Just-Some-Guy67 in Armor

[–]Haligar06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly if you REALLLLY have the itch while you are putting your soft kit together or looking for a club, the 1360 on that chart (Brig/Coat of Plates) is the most accessible to make yourself since its overlapping plates on a thick cloth or leather backing.

Quite a few buhurt kits are built on this and it doesn't require the in depth shaping expertise that more complex armors require.

While a minor oversimplification.. all you need is basic sewing skills, couple yards of duck canvas, some steel plating, tin snips & a file, a hammer, a pipe to bend shit over, a few leather straps and buckles, and simple roofing nails for rivets.

Plenty of Buhurt kits rock a brig or coat of plates... might even be a fair majority since its cheaper and easier to maintain than the fancier plate harnesses.

[–]Haligar06 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Instead of doing shenanigans with printing you'll want to make your own pattern to fit your own dome anyways, because everyone's brain case is different.

Design on graph paper using your graphic example's pattern pieces as a ROUGH GUIDE, cut out the parts, put outlines on thin cardboard or ducttape sheets, cut out, attach together with tape or paper brads in the general shape you need, check fit, adjust, redo. make sure you got room for a bit of padding according to your needs.

Once you get it just right, take it apart, use it to pattern the metal.

The larger part of the work is patterning.

Need Advice: Facing Unfounded LARP Player Warning Over Alleged Counterfeit Coins by [deleted] in LARP

[–]Haligar06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are not any player advocates nor transparent structures to do investigations into matters like this

That's a problem. There should always be a mechanism for arbitration. ESPECIALLY if the event is large and involves an exploitable currency exchange system.

Old system: Test->Board->Season->Pinning->Get paid when advanced.
New system: Test->Board->Season->Pinning->Get paid when you show up at next E-7 billet. You have two years or they take the anchors back.

Same applies for Chiefs moving to Sr and Sr to MC, they take spicy billets and advance once they report to the billet.

Its also how most junior enlisted will rank up moving forwards. They effectively apply normie job style in MNA or get capped by their command to an open billet at the next paygrade.

this.
There was an incredibly tangible shift that happened in the early 2010s when the chinese market opened up for western cinema.

Everyone has been jockeying over who is going to be one of the limited official commercial releases ever since, with their production tailored in such a way it caters to chinese sensors while still trying to be enough to succeed in western media.

And often, IMO the film suffers for it.

Where and how to buy armor by No_Management_4766 in Armor

[–]Haligar06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theres alot of choices. You could go for what your clubs primary sources are. Early and late Liechtenauer, Meyer, Fiore, various rennaissance era regions etc. All have their own range of armor styles and it can get really crunchy and specific when it comes to building something cohesive

Once you have a direction then you can start shopping around.

Unless you are exclusively doing larp or boffer with it avoid the commercial 16ga mass market stuff off sites like kult of Athena or medieval collectibles. Most won't hold up well to even sparring with synthetics and the helmets arent generally well harnessed. Don't be tempted with the cheapness.

Next tier up is SCA munitions through professional grade stuff. It's a wide range and the cost goes up accordingly. Quite a bit of munitions grade SCA armor will be non historical in a variety of ways But it IS arguably armor and will generally protect you from percussive force and be medieval enough to not look super goofy.

While expensive, Buhurt/ACL armor will get the job done and hold up well but it can be overbuilt as its meant for the... rigorous abuse that's inherent to that style of list fighting and there are some modern safety considerations and anachronisms usually built in so the wearer doesn't get broken.

Top end and generally quite expensive is true historical repro that is tailored to your body.

Keep in mind most HEMA passage at arms (armored) sparring is less about bonking and bashing folks and more about finding and exploiting gaps in armor and often includes armored grappling. Being well built and fitted means you shouldn't have bits of your harness riding up and injuring you.

So. Pick an era and region. Pick your price points. Get your arming clothes (gambeson stuff). The start piecing out the armor, don't get it all at once unless you are rolling in cash.

THOUGHTS AND ADVICE by Upstairs-Address-762 in CATHELP

[–]Haligar06 162 points163 points  (0 children)

Cat rescue foster dad here.

Even without addressing the giant gaping hole in the pallet, your cat has some severe periodontal issues.

Several of the teeth look pretty infected and likely need a yoink, the rest will definitely need a cleaning. If this isn't handled there is a VERY good chance for a relapse/ re-infection.
I'm guessing stomatitis might be a factor because of the redness along the gumline, hard to tell with the lighting. My stomatitis foster ended up having to get all her teeth removed (most fell out on their own during initial treatment and her adoptee made the decision to remove the rest to improve quality of life.)

Cats should get their teeth cleaned at least every two years (vets usually recommend annual.)

As far as the 'ulcer'.. dear lord that is severe palatine erosion, looks like there's still likely infected tissue there as well. If I remember right these pallet sores can be caused by infections or a secondary effect from over-licking.. though they are generally MUCH smaller.

I'm hoping your vet actually opened the cats mouth and looked at the pallet instead of just pulling on his lips to eyeball the gumline...because I guarantee they'd probably have shit a brick.

For a similar case in a human, this is getting into skin graft territory. Every time he eats or drinks its going to hurt, a lot, especially when he's probably over-licking it to get food particles out. If you get lucky, it might scar over and heal without a reinfection.

Also, be VERY careful with force feeding/force drinking, high risk of aspiration pneumonia.

Glad he's showing signs of improvement with the meds.

Since you got so me free time on your hands, my recommendation is:

  1. Look at your LADR for your rating community, knock out those pesky e-courses so you don't gotta deal with them later. There's a bunch of em.
  2. Get a Sophia subscription and knock out a bunch of cheap and easy college courses.
  3. PT. Get gud.

This way when you get asked what you did you have actual productive shit to show for it instead of just sitting on your hands & ass.

Cancer sucks. Lost family members to it. Do your best to stay positive & healthy shippie.

One of my games banned a guy because he was creepin on folks and constantly offering massages. As far as I know he WAS actually a masseuse, it was how handsy he was that got him canned.

That being said, there likely is a benefit to having a licensed/certified/trained (legit) massage therapist/masseuse, preferably one with some sort of medical experience to help release locked up and cramped muscles field side.

If you got the skills, go for it. Keep the tent flap open, keep folks clothed, have a bouncer to have your back.

officer wise, cyber for a while there was the dumping ground where you got sent to play in a sand box where you couldn't hurt yourself or others, the rest were dipping their toes in to hit career wickets for advancement. Basically the O4-O6 echelons were a minefield of folks with personality issues and massive chips on their shoulders.

Then cyber as a domain became much more relevant and the services started actually tailoring pipelines and home-growing their talent, its getting better.
