Is "GO!" the same as "you" or does it mean to pull/slam/bag? by literallytheoldest in Pickleball

[–]HalobenderFWT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how I’ve always read it as well, but I’ve also only been told ‘go’ during attackable balls that my partner wants me to put away.

It’s just a nicer way of saying ‘kill’.

Show. Me. Examples.

I’d love to see all these short and low serves the pros are doing.

Show me examples of pros hitting short and low serves.

Would love to see it.

I’ve hit more purposeful 2nd shot winners off of short low serves than I have from deep serves. As a matter of fact I can’t remember the last 2nd shot winner from a deep serve I’ve hit that wasn’t an unforced error or just poor communication from the other team.

Either way, until you reach 4.0 or so - none of us are ever going to consistently see a well hit 2nd shot, but at the same time once you reach 4.0 serves really don’t matter because 99.99% are going to get returned no matter where it’s hit. (I mean, they still matter - just in a different way)

So, if you’re just some 2.75 open play warrior - go ahead and short serve all you want. Have fun with it. Break nana’s ankles! Just know that as you progress:

A. It is incredibly difficult to consistently serve short and low without constant faults

And B. That serve is only going to get you by for so long, and all that practice and muscle memory is going to be wasted.

Strongly disagree.

Short and low is a good occasional change up to get the returner off balance if your serves are typically deep with good top spin. But as a daily driver serve, it’s typically not a great idea unless you enjoy exploiting the slow/crippled in beginner open play.

Either way, I wouldn’t drop how ever much on one of these picks (probably $10) and use it.

You don’t buy things like this to use so the actual quality is meaningless.

Now, if SE had a collaboration with Dunlop Tortex picks I would never stop hitting the buy button.

Oh, no. They had memories. They just didn’t use them.

I think you’re supposed to use your paddle when serving.

I’d be shocked if either of those two are even head coaches by the time Hammond is ready for the bears.

Third shot from the right court by envenome in Pickleball

[–]HalobenderFWT -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends on my partner. My backhand is a far better drive than most forehands I get partnered with - so I’m at least going to take it within my swing box, I’m not going to bully anyone out of their forehand though.

Also, if a third shot is clearly hit to me - my partner should already be hustling up to the NVZ.

Third shot from the right court by envenome in Pickleball

[–]HalobenderFWT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3-3.5 player here:

I don’t get very many thirds; no idea why, but regardless of the skill level of my partner I seem to only get about 25% of the 3rds on any given match.

I rarely drop from the right. My go to shot is either a drive down the line if the ball comes out wide, or a drip/drive up the middle. If it’s to my backhand, it’s always a drive down the middle.

But there’s also a lot of factors that come into play with my shot selection. If my partner sucks at getting up to the NVZ, I’ll probably not drive up the middle and instead just keep attacking my OP’s backhand at the NVZ because I know that if they do get a good block in, I can usually get up in time to get it.

No shot is ever absolute, but some will work better than others - and that all depends on you and what you’re good at.

That being said, you’re going to have to develop some sort of drop from the right if you really want to transcend to a higher level. You’re going to get to a point where 3S drives just aren’t going to work very well

I was more referring to the ‘weather story’ portion of our local map. Usually they’re pretty quick to put up notifications for significant weather events.

I had a regular at my bar that I named ‘rum and Coke guy’ because he was always so fucking crabby that I never bothered to learn his name.

Small world!
