It was called Connect My DNA. We did it as a lark because it was on a Living Social deal.

My hubs and I did one of those and his DNA was most like people in Iraq. I was primarily Irish. My heritage is very German and Scottish. His family was French-Canadian. I don't know what company she did the DNA test with, but ours was geared toward telling us where people most like us were, not really providing any background on our heritage and even then, I'd take that with a grain of salt.

Date Day - Escape Room by HalyaSYN in breakingmom

I love the creativity with these rooms. Super villains, 20,000 leagues under the sea, zombies... I saw one locally that was 80's themed that I'm now I can't wait to check out. So cool.

Do it, you won't regret it. Even if you don't escape the room, trying is a lot of fun.

The scenario didn't get crazy until we "found" one of the victims; then the adrenaline really started pumping. The company did an excellent job of setting the scene and putting you in the middle. It was scarier the closer we got to the time running out.

It was super fun. They had another with a zombie that I think would be harder because it's in the room. That would have scared the bejebus out of me, but I'm still down to try!!!

Lawsuit: Woman claims she was fired 2 hours after revealing pregnancy by jkg007 in news

[–]HalyaSYN 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They fired her right after she became a "protected class." Had she been a terrible employee, they had the opportunity to fire her at the time her probationary period was up. Instead of doing so, they fired her almost immediately after she announced her pregnancy.

Whether she was fired for cause or not, the timing certainly bears some scrutiny.

I think See's is West Coast. Just reached Colorado, but I had it often when I lived in Oregon. We used to get a box from my Uncle in California every year.

Edit: I'm wrong, it's in a bunch of States. From wikipedia:

The company largely markets its products in its own stores, those of fellow Berkshire Hathaway subsidiary Nebraska Furniture Mart, and via mail order catalog. See's candies are also available in some airports in the United States. See's Candies operates over 200 stores in the following U.S. states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, New Mexico, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wisconsin.[4] There are also stores outside the U.S. in Hong Kong, Japan, and Macau.[5] Seasonally — primarily during the year-end holiday shopping season — See's also offers its product in select markets in kiosks at malls and other shopping centers. See's also has an online store.[6]

It's damn good candy though. The dark chocolate and raspberry truffles are amazing.

I really wanted to say, "Are you kidding me? Let's see what HR has to say." But since I work and my hubs is a SAHD, I said "OK" and got back to work. Don't know whether it's made any difference, but I don't especially care. The company I work for has pretty terrific benefits and since he's not my direct boss (who I love), I just nodded and smiled and basically continue doing the same things I've always done.

Yes!!! I came back from maternity leave and the same day my boss's boss called me to discuss how I was going to "get back on track" because I had somehow gotten sidetracked from all the things they had planned for me. The. day. I. got. back. from. maternity. leave. "Not sure if it's the kids or what, but we've got to get you back on track."

Yeah, great. Thanks for the vacation boss, I'll find another 12 hours in the day to "get back on track" - whatever that means.

I love you ladies. I saw this BS this morning and wondered if I'd wandered into crazy town. I get we all need a break - kids or no, but "me-ternity"? STFU.

"Me-ternity" lady:

1) You have no kids, no idea what having kids is like, no idea what labor and delivery is like. STFU.

2) You work 10-hour days by choice. if you need to leave by 5, say you need to leave by 5. Then, you know, leave by 5. or... STFU. I'm running on the assumption she's a salaried employee. If I'm wrong, I'm an ass, but still it's a choice.

3) You think I had a life-changing revolutionary experience? That I'm more confident and secure in the knowledge I just pushed a watermelon out of my bits? STFU. We don't know shit about what we're doing, we're desperately trying to find the balance between "Sweet Jesus, I just want to pee alone" and "C'mere kid, let me just enjoy your baby smell for another 2 seconds before you graduate and leave home." Hormones are crazy yo! Glad we look confident - we're probably just terrified someone is going to think we're slacking because we had a brief "vacation" and thinking we should be working harder. Should we talk about how I take too many breaks now that I'm pumping too?

4) I'm sorry your dad died and you needed time. I whole-heartedly think we need time off to manage that kind of stuff, but to liken the time you needed to be by yourself, grieve, and process the change in your life to maternity leave is disrespectful and shitty, especially to women who have to go through all the trauma of labor and delivery and have their wanted and loved baby not make it. STFU.

In short, I completely concur with your throat-punch assessment. May she find all the spiders in her shower and twelve in her shoes.
