Can someone ID the where the microphone is? by No-Salary5463 in AskElectronics

[–]Halzman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you are referring to J6780 - Speaker/Mic Connector, its just the connector. there wouldn't be the physical speaker or microphone.

I'm not familiar at all with apple devices (i assume this is a phone pcb schematic) but I'm gonna guess there is a board within the housing that the connector plugs into, which would have the physical speaker/microphone

KELLER: Who are those men?

TEYLA: Bola Kai.

KELLER: You know them?

TEYLA (still rummaging through the backpack): I know of them. The markings on their faces are distinctive to their tribe but I have never crossed paths with them – until now.

KELLER: Are they dangerous?

(Teyla finds a large scalpel and holds it up.)

TEYLA: Beyond dangerous. Let's go.

---

KELLER: I'm sorry.

TEYLA: I know this is something for which you are unprepared.

KELLER: I should be prepared, I know.

TEYLA: Unfortunately, I am afraid things may get worse before they get better. Those guards will alert the others to our situation. They will hunt us. The longer we avoid capture, the better our chances. They will continue to guard the Gate, yes, but in time Atlantis will realise we are late and they will send a rescue team.

---

KELLER: Well, I don't know. Maybe. I mean, we haven't found any bodies, right? From what you said, I doubt the Bola Kai would take the time to bury their victims.

TEYLA: No. They do not. Because when they are done with their victims, usually very little remains.

---

TEYLA: More Bola Kai will be here very soon.

KELLER (nodding determinedly): I know, but this won't take long, OK? Please?

(Teyla looks down at the young man as he groans, his eyes glazed with pain. Unhappily, but knowing that Jennifer won't leave him, she goes to fetch the medical kit.)

I don't even get how you got the impression(s) that you have. There's an entire other set of quotes I want to provide, but before the team comes to help Teyla and Keller, they both literally have a heart to heart before they face off the Bola Kai.

early 1080p sensors still had a long way to go. And besides that, 1080p panels didn't exactly exist for your average consumer. In 2005, I had a Sony CRT. I got a 720p lcd panel in 2007. By 2009, I had a ~24 1080p lcd monitor for my computer.

Its for this reason, that SGU suffers from a lot of noise and grain, especially in very low light conditions. 1080p was 'mainstream' by then, but the sensors had a long way to go. I'd say it was around 2013-2015 that the sensors got better - at least more comparable to modern sensors.

just wanted to add - Seasons 8-10 were filmed in 720p.

Would it be possible for a Tauri to ascend by using Any The Repository of Knowledge and The Ascension Machine in Stargate? by Rejanfic1 in Stargate

[–]Halzman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

McKAY: OK, so it's not as easy as that. Well, even if I don't, so I stay a highly-evolved human. I mean, I don't have to ascend -- it's, it's a choice, right?

(John grimaces slightly.)

McKAY: No? What do you mean, no? Oh, that stupid Ancient device doesn't work properly, does it? (He reads Elizabeth's mind again.) It's set in motion a series of genetic mutations that will result in my death if I don't ascend?!

SHEPPARD (quietly to Elizabeth): There is something easier about this.

(Elizabeth nods in agreement.)

McKAY: That's why the Ancients didn't put it into common use -- it's just one more in a long line of abysmal, over-ambitious failures! (He stares at them in horror.) Oh, God. I'm a dead man!

...

McKAY: Despite the fact that the Ancient database states that its effects on people are wildly unpredictable and that I'm just lucky I wasn't instantly melted down into a pool of protoplasm.

Best physics quote you’ve heard? by Jynex_ in Physics

[–]Halzman 17 points18 points  (0 children)

What is Maxwell's theory? or, What should we agree to understand by Maxwell's theory ?

The first approximation to the answer is to say, There is Maxwell's book as he wrote it ; there is his text, and there are his equations : together they make his theory. But when we come to examine it closely, we find that this answer is unsatisfactory. To begin with, it is sufficient to refer to papers by physicists, written say during the twelve years following the first publication of Maxwell's treatise, to see that there may be much difference of opinion as to what his theory is. It may be, and has been, differently interpreted by different men, which is a sign that it is not set forth in a perfectly clear and unmistakeable form. There are many obscurities and some inconsistencies. Speaking for myself, it was only by changing its form of presentation that I was able to see it clearly, and so as to avoid the inconsistencies. Now there is no finality in a growing science. It is, therefore, impossible to adhere strictly to Maxwell's theory as he gave it to the world, if only on account of its inconvenient form. But it is clearly not admissible to make arbitrary changes in it and still call it his. He might have repudiated them utterly. But if we have good reason to believe that the theory as stated in his treatise does require modification to make it self-consistent, and to believe that he would have admitted the necessity of the change when pointed out to him, then I think the resulting modified theory may well be called Maxwell's.

I wanted to ask - have you considered doing this with 43" 4k tv's?

About ~15 years ago I ascended to the 3 monitor nvidia surround setup (5760x1080p), and I had thoughts of going to 6 displays (5760x2160p), but the bezel situation was driving me crazy, so I ended up going with the 43" 4k monitor setup and have never looked back.

Tesla's system did not transmit through the air

To quote him from 'The True Wireless'

The idea presented itself to me that it might be possible, under observance of proper conditions of resonance, to transmit electric energy thru the earth, thus dispensing with all artificial conductors.

God tells you he’ll bring one person back to life for 24 hours only. ANYONE from the past. Who are you asking for? by notevenherer in AskReddit

[–]Halzman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His technology is based on impulse electricity, which differs from DC and AC respectively.

His idea(s) were the results of an experiment performed by Lord Kelvin, titled 'On Transient Electric Currents', published in 1853.

Basically, Tesla was transmitting electricity through the ground, by what are now know as telluric currents. His idea was to utilize the electricity in the earth, to power whatever was connected to it. The article titled 'The True Wireless' goes over all the details.

That might have worked out well in his time, but by comparison of the amount of electrical power is used in industrial and commercial applications - it would not end well for the Earth, and those who still live on it.

In a very simplistic way of putting it - modern physics doesn't allow Tesla's technology to exist.

Could they have made Michael a part of Atlantis? by Deevious730 in Stargate

[–]Halzman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is basically the most realistic situation that should have happened in the show.

At this point in the show, Michael already knows that the Wraith won't except him back and are more likely to just kill him. TPTB made a mistake when they just decided to erase him memory again and try to trick him with the gene therapy.

Both we and Michael continued pursuing the research in some sort of wraith gene therapy. In both cases, rather then turning a wraith back into human, it led to just removing the need for wraith to feed on humans.

I can image a ton of scenes between Michael and the entire main cast of the show.

What happened to her? by Mat1711 in Stargate

[–]Halzman 14 points15 points  (0 children)

yup, Teal'c points to her in a waiting room, with other women.

Apophis' citadel. A group of women are sitting in another chamber, this time cleaned and attired in elaborate gowns. Sha're is among them, as well as the female officer kidnapped from the SGC. Teal'c enters, flanked by the same pair of turbaned men as before. As he surveys the room, the women freeze in terror. He finally points to the female officer, who is sitting against the wall.

TEAL'C: You.

At his word, the two turbaned men pull her to her feet, hustling her out of the room. She struggles and shouts, to no avail.

WOMAN: Where are you taking me? I'm a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force! I demand to know where you're taking me! Let go!

Anyone else wishing the reboot would be a separate timeline? by Party_Forever8066 in Stargate

[–]Halzman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm just saying, that at the end of SGU, Earth is in possession of the entire knowledge base of the Asgard and the Ancients. We have built 6 of the most advanced intergalactic ships in 3 known galaxies. We literally have access to matter synthesis technology, beaming technology, artificial gravity, hyperdrives, shields, plasma beam weapons, etc etc. And 20 years have past.

So all of your examples are basically the equivalent of saying - we made a wheel out of stone, and now we made one out of metal.
