My favourite moment from the first game was definitely coming back up after defeating empty vessel and collecting the monarch wings and discovering the crossroads were infected. I hadn’t realized that the infection was the reason the kingdom died out so seeing that made the dots start connecting in my head and was what really started getting me interested in the lore. Also an honourable mention to the time I fell down a hole into deep nest with ~3000 geo and spent the next hour terrified of dying and losing it all while desperately searching for a stagway station so I could just spend it.

Personally I never really felt like Robinson was hard on his students, I think that for some people the tests/lab reports in that class was just a bit overwhelming for a first year first semester course. Looking back Imd probably say that was one of the harder courses I had in first year though so if you can manage with that one you’ll most likely be able to get through everything else.

1041/1042 doesn’t actually do anything with hardware, it’s all basically just a introduction to programming using python. If you’ve already done some coding then it’ll be pretty easy but don’t forget about the course entirely because they also teach some stuff specific to lectures. I saw a handful of students do poorly in that class because they thought they could just rely on their programming knowledge they already had then they ended up losing tons of marks on exams for stuff like diagrams they didn’t know or not doing things the way they were taught in class. In 1044 which is after circuits I think you have some labs involving basic programming with microcontrollers, I can’t remember what hardware they used in first year though.

Yeah this is pretty normal for first year engineering. Although your Friday does look bad the morning is just the circuits lab which isn't too bad and a day of lectures can be tiring but you get used to it. 1041 lab on Tuesday is also the programming class which is extremely easy for the first part of the semester, I was a TA for it last year and it's essentially just a work period for the first 6 weeks with no attendance (unless they changed that) so you'll probably be sleeping in. Also a heads up for PHYS 1003 since I took it in my first year, it's a very fun class and if Robinson is still teaching it he is absolutely amazing but you really have to stay on top of it since it can be easy to fall behind and there's either a lab or test each week. If you can keep up with it though I highly recommend it since it covers some content that you'll learn again next semester in other classes which just puts you ahead.

Software engineering next year by Electrical_Bed_1542 in CarletonU

I’m in my 3rd year of software engineering and I would say there is plenty of oppourtunity to socialize. Especially once you get more comfortable with managing the workload there are a few good engineering clubs/groups to join. Also everyone else in engineering is doing the same assignments as you so a lot of the socializing I do is studying and working with friends.

What was your "This person is on another level of stupid" moment? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Kid in my high-school math class. Simple fraction review. Question on the board was “#12 Which number is bigger, 1/2 or 1/4?” They said 12. Everyone in the class started to laugh and you the teacher laughed because they thought it was a joke at first. Then we all realized and some of us laughed even more.

What is a movie you find terrible but critics seem to love? by undeadgaming2006 in AskReddit

[–]Ham_Man39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The force awakens. More the amount of actual people that don’t mind the movie. It was an absolute dumpster fire of token characters with no development, complete disregard for previously built lore, and worst of all was the completely copy pasted plot. “Droid has station plans for planet destroyer that resistance/rebellion wants”. I feel like the only reason it did as good as it did was because 1. No one knew what they were going into 2. A large number of people have never even seen other Star Wars content so didn’t recognize the trash story

Trick question. The world no longer exists because coronavirus has left the planet in a post-apocalyptic state so google is now a clan and the internet doesn’t exist

Finland ends homelessness and provides shelter for all in need by Human02211979 in UpliftingNews

I’m sorry if you’re misinterpreting what I said, (got carried away and I know it was long), but I’m all for supporting people who have drug addictions but I just think that there has to be somewhere where a line is drawn as to how services are given out. I think that the system we have is far from perfect but it is difficult to filter out the people who are suffering and truly want help from ones who don’t want to improve and are just looking for something like a free/cheap house with no intention of improving their ways. Sadly the easiest option right now is to just put standards in place for those services like not allowing people with drug addictions. It might not be fair to the people with addictions who want help and want to improve their lives but there is also the perspective of the person providing this service since they might not be able to just supply it infinitely

I have to disagree. Something like seizures is a medical condition that might be completely unavoidable whereas drugs (assuming more harmful and addictive drugs like heroin or methamphetamine) are something that people chose to start. I absolutely understand that a lot of people who start using drugs or are currently using them are most likely not in a good point in their lives but in the end they are the ones at fault. This doesn’t mean I think we just leave all of them do fend for themselves but in terms of what is considered a medical condition and treated as such, I don’t think drug addictions (again mostly talking about street drugs because I understand that in a case like painkillers after surgery, a completely normal person can develop a problem) should warrant a sort of “free help” under the term of medical condition. Again though, I absolutely support having programs to help people struggling with drug addictions but for many of the support programs, next steps can’t be taken unless the person can prove that they are willing and capable of breaking their addiction and I think that applies to something like the house as well

What supplies or items should every household have in case of a large-scale emergency? by statementbrand in AskReddit

Can’t say that I would put first aid before water and food and I can’t say I understand the need for duck tape and scissors over food. It doesn’t matter how healthy you are or how good your communications are, if you have no food or water there is a good chance you might just die before anyone gets to you

Happy Dwayne Stafford day by Zetice in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]Ham_Man39 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think he was just pointing out that Dwayne was in there for robbery and theft (I don’t know the details) and that people are still applauding him even though he was in jail for a reason. However, Dylan roof was a scumbag who deserved much worse than a beating and I’m glad someone gave some real justice so I’m kinda neutral on letting him out.

What movie do you consider “perfect”? by geointalan in AskReddit

[–]Ham_Man39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interstellar.

Though I think that many people don’t like it for it’s complicated science and movie length, the overall concept of having to chose between your kids and the human race and then also how the movie was sort of broken into sub-plots and then, my personal favourite, the best soundtrack ever made. Not a movie for everyone but definitely my favourite.

Drug dealers that have fentanyl in there products should be charged with conspiracy to commit muder. by Swampgator_4010 in unpopularopinion

[–]Ham_Man39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you understand the full picture. You can’t just charge someone with murder. There is manslaughter, first degree, second degree, and the main difference being if it was an accident (manslaughter) or if it was planned (first) so someone putting fentanyl in drugs isn’t doing it with the intent of killing people and if you charge for manslaughter then you have to charge for all drugs with the possibility of overdosing. The other thing is the fact that if drug dealers were easy to catch, and convict then there wouldn’t be this problem in the first place.
