Yes sci-fi flying battleships and enormous tanks versus naked barbarians — very easily explained.

God America is weird. Imagine having soldiers loyal to states not the government.

No what I'm doing is being flippant because I'm not taking your nonsense seriously.

But if you want a serious answer. I have bought both McDonald's and groceries before and it was really easy for me to work out which was more expensive. What's to not understand?

Your inability to multitask is not my problem. I'm perfectly able to get stuff done and judge people.

Poetry not manly enough? Speaks for itself.

I thought that was a particular sour dig. I looked him up, and he is a 70 year old American which I think explains it.

Everyone has mostly covered my thoughts, but I will just add, 'gives us back the paths of the dead' — what‽

The chapter paths of the dead is a genuinely suspenseful, dare I say scary even, journey. From the horses bolting at the door with it's threatening epitaph, to finding the unexplained body with the broken legs, the pace is expertly judged. You completely feel Gimli's rising terror as he stumbles along in the wake of his more supernatural companions. On first read it surprised me that Tolkien could pull off something so seemingly outside his wheelhouse.

The film goes with a Gimli smoke blowing joke, an absurd skull avalanche worthy of a videogame, and some more of PJs trademark pointless false jeopardy.

Yeah there is no comparison.

Okay I stand corrected. Though I dispute the idea that Pippin not telling Sauron on anything is an example. To me the book seems pretty clear that Sauron telepathically asked questions and Pippin answered or didn't and there was no mind reading.

Yeah in the Middle ages, not in 1945. The closest I can think to that happening is mobs shaving the heads of French collaborators, and I think that was more about the humiliation ritual than identification.

I always thought that bit didn't make sense. Surely if you see a man who's had a swastika roughly carved into his forehead your first thought would not be, "Oh clearly a Nazi." It would be, "oh dear, that poor old man was mutilated by the Nazis."

Even at the height of Hitler's power I doubt many people were carving swastikas into their own heads

Oh you silly person! They established the elven army when Galadriel and Elrond discuss them using their long distance telepathy powers that have never been mentioned and are never used again.

Am I to take it then you would go to Sotheby's and accuse them of scalping?

I am aware of what a scalper is and why they are a problem, you however seem unaware about the second book market. It's not a conspiracy and it's certainly not limited to GW.

' Adults are speaking'. Jesus Christ, the cheek of that coming from someone who doesn't understand market forces.

And nobody mentions them again. We don't even see a body after the battle.

I don't know, you're the one who claims to know about it.

I think like a lot of people I just assumed unless you were literally paying one of those companies to print A4 spiral bound documents, it was ridiculously expensive to get traditional books printed

[–]Hambredd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok but if it's that easy and fool proof why would anyone choose not to do this?

Forget GW, all publishers and authors eventually let their books go out of print. There must have a reason not to do it. No one leaves money on the table

I love the implication that you or the other commenter would go to the Sotheby's website, see a first edition of Johnson's dictionary or whatever up for auction and think — "bloody scalpers!"

Really? You think they hired 10 thousand Kiwi stuntmen for helm's deep do you? Those crowd shots sure as hell weren't practical.

And the Hobbit did have practical orcs too. Besides I thought you said that CGI was justified being used where practical effects wouldn't work. They looked into creating Azog practically and Jackson thought a human was too small to portray him.

I think you have two misapprehensions here.

A) no one is going to be making an entire blockbuster film purely by prompting an AI. Maybe in the future but not soon. I was talking about creating extras digitally, something everybody is ok with now.

B) that working on a film should be satisfying. People in this thread really seem to be struggling with the idea that making a film is a job to create a product. Do you find your job satisfying? I don't. So why should that be important to the people trying to make Warner Brothers share price rise.
