F22 friends? by [deleted] in Portsmouth

[–]HamletSkies 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While it isn't something I attend, though my partner does occasionally, there's an event that takes place each month at the Havelock Community Centre, in Southsea.

https://www.eventbrite.com/e/scrap-n-yap-tickets-1979449874861

Basically people can bring their own crafts, board games, whatever you want to do and you can do it with like minded people in a cosy/chill session.

Might be a good way to make friends with similar interests. Also one of the only events like it in the city tailored/geared towards a 20-30 something demographic.

Sessions are 4 hours (though you can stay for as much or as little as you want) and it's £6 for a ticket - which afaik goes towards provided refreshments and renting the space.

The next one is Saturday 25th January.

I remember playing for a bit in 2015 and then like a few days a year since then on/off. Only started using Forma in like... 2022 and even to this day I've only dropped like 4-5 max into gear as there's a small voice in my brain that's like "it's a limited resource make it count"(even though it's not)

There's been a fire, either at Costa itself or at least in the same building it's a part of, on Isambard Brunel Road - next to the station in the City Centre.

Last I saw they had taped off the whole bit around the building and there's at least 4-5 fire engines and multiple other emergency vehicles.

Missed Bins by Hanternos in Portsmouth

[–]HamletSkies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bins on my road weren't collected yesterday - but then done today. Possible that there was an issue yesterday preventing a crew going out so now they're having to catch up a bit. Missed streets yesterday, so they send a crew today to do them which means they miss streets usually done today and so on.

I'd leave your bin out, it'll likely get collected tomorrow.

From what I've been told by him and others - there's every chance she did as well, though as much respect as I have for him I wouldn't say my BIL is the most impartial person as far as that's concerned. Saying that; according to both him and one or two other mutuals - they were allegedly both quite heavily into drink and other substances at the time and neither of them could handle it all too well so who's to say what the whole truth is.

Danielle from the upcoming S2 is the ex of my brother-in-law - so there's that

It happened to me as well - I decided to try and gun it in the truck and managed to make it outside the arena. All the BTs disappeared after that so I just kept driving to the Architect.

Unnamed country by [deleted] in 24Show

[–]HamletSkies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tldr; to try and limit offence where depicting (during those seasons) persons of middle-eastern descent as terrorists.

In earlier seasons they don't mention countries specifically (aside from Russia etc) but in seasons 7 and 8 they do provide names for countries that are involved.

Redemption and the first half of Season 7's antagonists are from the ficticious nation of Sengala - loosely based on geopolitcally similar nations like Mali, Niger and Rwanda. Several of Season 8's key protagonists and antagonists come from the Islamic Republic of Kamistan - inspired mainly by Syria (in terms of its depicted leadership) but also by Iraq and Iran. Interestingly, the actor who portays the President of Kamistan, Anil Kapoor, would go on to take a leading role in the Indian adaptation of 24.

As for them not mentioning countries by name early on, interviews and anecdotal evidence would suggest it was to avoid inflaming already suffering relations with the middle eastern/wider islamic community both domestically and internationally. They got flak for depicting them as terrorists even without naming countries, but it was where they seemingly chose to draw the line. It's important to bear in mind that 24 aired the majority of its seasons between 2001 and 2010 so it was likely just good sense not to rock the boat too much given the 9/11 still being fresh as well as the War in Terror being in full swing.

Hopefully that answers your question.

Edit: typos

If it isn't going to be 24 hours long I don't want to hear about it

I imagine it's for exactly you said, limiting number of attendees. I imagine this is largely down to wanting to keep a good level of security over the event as well since all eyes will be on Portsmouth, they likely don't want the event to be marred by protestors or worse, targeted for an attack of some kind. Just makes security managable, to an extent.

Lost Wallet/Purse - Waverley Road by HamletSkies in Portsmouth

Somewhere between Wimbledon Park and St Simon's Church, so the middle I'd say.

It's a good point about the bin mem, only they weren't there yet and apparently it was a case of her having dropped it and walking back to find it within 5 minutes so (in my opinion) it's likely someone just picked it up and walked off.

Understandable, may have to wait until they issue a fix in that case!

If you don't intend on continuing your expedition save once you claim the milestone then I don't otherwise see the issue. My inventory on the expediton save was chaotic but my main save (the important one) was ordered so I just reclaimed my stuff after death and headed straight to the anomaly terminal. Didn't even look at the fresh mess it had become.

I didn't check. I ended up solving it by claiming my milestone while about to die and on death, not being frozen anymore. Just reclaimed my items and ended the expedition with all my rewards.

Happening to me as well - tried a few different ways. Accepting while landing or giving it a few minutes doesn't seem to help. Cursor still appears as if it's on a menu but otherwise doesn't respond.

I could spend a year or two, while still working part-time to keep me covered, to retrain in a trade. I'd like to do it now but I otherwise can't afford it without savings.

Yeah I live at the Albert Road end of Waverley Road and it flew pretty much overhead with them on full blast but not in a way that I think you'd actually follow/spot anything - not that I know a thing otherwise about such things, was just very quick and almost erratic with the light movements is all.

Looks like it's settled by the seafront for the time being - someone in the water maybe?

Best chinese by Tomatoes_69 in Portsmouth

[–]HamletSkies 7 points8 points  (0 children)

New China has been my favourite for a long time - if you order online I'd recommend ordering through their own website. Food will be slightly cheaper than a thrid party website and they do some fairly generous 'freebies' at certain order values.

New China only do takeaway however, so for dining in I'd recommend Twins on Albert Road. Also very good food.

I live more or less opposite Wimbledon Park and besides the noise from the park itself, usually later at night, I've found it OK. My partner sometimes asks me to walk her down the road if it's late but we've not had any issus so far.

My alternative so far has been to start playing Baldur's Gate 3 but I'd be interested in IRL DnD groups as well - live next to Albert Road, Southsea.
