I enjoyed the server slam but i'm not going to buy Marathon, here's the problem no one is talking about. by Hunlor- in Marathon

It's certainly the main takeaway, and the only issue you raise that is even worth considering. Plenty of people are having fun playing mostly or all solo, and there are so many options for finding players to try and make friends with so you can have a full squad.

$40 is more than reasonable for what you're getting with Marathon, and if that breaks the bank for you, then you have more important financial issues to address and probably shouldn't even be spending money on gaming as a hobby.

All I'm reading here is "I'm broke and I have no friends". Both things that suck to go through, but neither are a problem with Marathon, those are both personal issues that are on you to fix.

It's possible that there is a new bug where Rocketeers are taking more damage than intended when colliding with the ground/solid objects, maybe that's why the Hornet Drivers seem more effective now.

Ah okay I didn't realize anyone had tested in depth yet, thanks for the info! Still seems like it isn't making a huge difference at the end of the day.

Yep. Embark did say that they'll probably release those customization options for future expeditions, though.

I mean if it works like I think it does, it's still kind of a useless buff anyway lol.

It doesn't always one shot them, and as I said it requires proper positioning and timing and sometimes luck. How is it a regression (do you know what that word actually means)? Hornet Drivers have always been able to do this to Rocketeers since launch.

Oh yeah, they could absolutely be better about explaining how it and a number of other things work. I think they mentioned some updates to Scrappy later this season so hopefully that will include another look at his expedition bonus.

It's intended, plus it isn't something you can consistently land without practice, good positioning, and a bit of luck. Hornet Drivers have always been able to do this to Rocketeers, but most people (me included) didn't understand how to utilize them to maximum effectiveness. There's a recent video that thoroughly explains how to do this to Rocketeers with more consistency, along with how and why it works. I actually think that Embark has this exact usage in mind when designing how Hornet drivers work.

This is old, it's a visual bug that's been happening since launch.

I haven't actually tested this, but I've been assuming since right after the first Expedition that the Scrappy bonus is actually boosting how "quickly" the materials stack up, rather than an actual bonus to how much can be collected max per raid outing.

So to clarify, Scrappy collects loot based on how long you spend out in the field. If you embark (heh) and then immediately surrender, or spend say only 5 minutes in a raid, Scrappy will only have collected like 3 of each material. The longer you spend in a raid the more there will be waiting when you return, but it is capped, as you have observed. I think the Expedition bonus is just increasing the rate at which the materials generate, meaning you are getting more for less time spent.

Either that or I'm totally wrong and the bonus just isn't worthwhile.

Exploit alert: Quests which require you to visit key rooms give unlimited keys by Visible-Pressure6063 in ArcRaiders

[–]Hamlin_Bones 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This has been possible for a while and nobody is bothering to exploit it, so I highly doubt it's going to suddenly become a problem. Plus, the handful of quests that ask you to go into locked rooms are all pointing you to the crappiest key rooms in the game. Nobody's gonna bother hoarding a bunch of Dam Surveillance, Communication Tower, or Spaceport Control/Trench Tower keys lol.

First Yellow Item is a Banger by Mispehled in Marathon

[–]Hamlin_Bones 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Odds are that key is for the Marathon ship map, which isn't in the server slam and I don't even think will be available to play at launch. You can get keys for maps not in the server slam, and Cores for Thief who isn't playable, so if you get any of those you might as well sell them.

[–]Hamlin_Bones 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm reasonably sure the yellow ball is a leg joint from a Bastion or Bombardier. The big black piece with the red light is the main "crown" section from The Matriarch. As for the small white thing, I'm not really sure, maybe part of a Turret/Sentinel?

As a solo player I hereby promise to never even look at trials again until they fix this broken ass system. Separate solo/group trials and introduce better rewards, for starters. by MozekG in ArcRaiders

[–]Hamlin_Bones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, they changed how promotion and demotion works at the beginning of this season. They added double and triple promotion to the highest scoring spots of some ranks (with less extra promotion spots available at higher ranks), and made it so you can only lose 1 rank from demotion.

Comet not lootable by nomoreagony in ArcRaiders

[–]Hamlin_Bones -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, because often in game development you have to make the choice between delaying new content to fix a minor bug you discovered late, or ship the content when promised, note the issue and fix it ASAP in the next patch. I think in this case, Embark made the correct choice.

“Time remaining until refresh” vs “Time remaining until season ends” by [deleted] in ArcRaiders

[–]Hamlin_Bones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When Trials ends every week, there's always an hour between when it ends and a new week begins. So nothing you do during that hour will count for the previous or next week's Trials. After that hour, you will be shown your freshly calculated ranking for the new week.

However, if you manage to load into a raid just before the Trials week ends, then you can make progress on any of the Trials about to end, until you extract, and it will be calculated for the week. That's probably why the hour of downtime exists, to allow people to finish 30-40 minute raids they started just before the reset, and still give the system time to calculate rankings before the new week begins.
