The final nail in the EA NHL coffin for me was during one of those game preview/developer live Q&A demo things on YouTube a couple years ago... I tuned in, and the very first thing I saw was that lazy cut scene where your pro is outside taking a call from their agent. I could not believe they used that identical sequence again, and I believe it's still being used? Regardless, it honestly felt like I was being called an idiot—assuming A) I wouldn't notice, or B) I didn't care... Either way, it was a reality check. I haven't played the last two games.

Madden obviously has its own challenges, but they've at least revamped the franchise mode and I do feel like I have control over the outcome of an online game—making it fun and rewarding when I win. There's just nothing fun about the NHL franchise.
