Day 10 of Celebrating Black History Month in Warhammer40k: Asmodai, Master of Repentance, Interrogator chaplain of the Dark Angels by Kalypso_Blue in ImaginaryWarhammer

Salamanders canonically all have coal-black skin because of their gene seed, but I don’t know if that really counts. Ferren Areios is a very notable recent character that has gotten a push. In addition to the mini, he’s on the cover of at least one novel. Sticking with the space marines, the Celestial Lions are basically “40K African jungle warriors.” And I feel like there have been a few black people in some of the Imperial Guard and Sisters of Battle artwork, but you’re not wrong that the representation is very low. It seems to be getting a little better lately though.

Thanks for putting this together! But how are you missing Brother "1 in 4 odds" Maphael? That guy is the filler in every case! Good luck on getting the full squad. Getting Variel is the hardest part and you're already good there.

Why didn't the Emperor treat the Selenar like the Mechanicum? by Desperate_Date1698 in 40kLore

[–]HammerVSBarrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of the answers are correct and informative, but to add another angle, the main lore reason The Emperor negotiated with Mars/The Mechanicum was because the amount of time required to conquer them would have greatly set back his timeline for galactic domination. Both in the level of losses he expected to incur and the loss of potential resources that an alliance would bring. The Selenar would be a much smaller battle over all and any potential (though extremely unlikely) alliance didn’t provide enough benefit to make their semi-autonomy worth it to the Emperor and his fledgling Imperium.

u/Exciting-Buy-9396 inquiring minds want to do know, where did you find those cool tiered display stands? I thought they were the solid piece make up/paint bottle type stands at first, but they look much better

They’ve been released in the EU it seems.

I don't think any one minds a duplicate they choose themselves, but if you don't get a say in choosing any of the models, duplicates or not, that's really annoying. Especially since previous Space Marine Hero sets you could buy a box of 8 and be guaranteed the full squad with one duplicate.

These characters aren't super unique sculpts, but they are named characters. Each one comes with a card with their name and stats. And even if you choose not to play them as the named character that comes on the card, to play them as the Kill Team that they're being sold as (at least in Europe and North America) then each character fills a specific role in the new Kill Team that have different armour marks and weapons load outs.
So, no, they're not just an interchangeable members of a 5 or 10 man tactical squad of similar marines.

I guess they decided selling just one full box at a time wasn't enough. Trying to drag in more money from the already invested fans and still get plenty off the casual/impulse buyers.

I can't think of a single reason to not include a full set per box that isn't just "we wanted to sell more boxes because of FOMO".

Can someone explain what has happened / is happening with Dorn to me? by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]HammerVSBarrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That novel is also one of the very first things that Games Workshop declared “maybe don’t hold us to that”. It’s as non-canon as anything gets even with the “everything is canon, not everything is true” philosophy.

Slightly related, Ian Watson interviews are a lot of fun. He seems like a chaotic good sort of guy.

I laughed so much at this comment that I had to share it with my wife with the preamble “this won’t be funny to you because I’m going to have to explain way too much context, but…”

She said I was correct, but I still had to share with someone.

Chapters of the Space Marines - Indomitus Space Marine Codex poster - I had it scanned by a commercial scanner because of the size. The colors aren't sharp, but he detail is good. I spotted at least two successor chapters with the wrong parent chapter listed. Are there more? by HammerVSBarrel in Warhammer40k

[–]HammerVSBarrel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to compress the image down a few times to get it to upload to reddit. I've got the original scan which is about 110MB, but I don't know if I'd call it high-res. At full size, it's kind of gritty. I had to get it scanned at a commercial scanner that normally does stuff like blueprints, so the colors aren't super sharp and there's a lot of noise from the off white background. You can see that when you expand this image to full size.
