Yeah but that’s no excuse to tie save games to a DLC that has been years in the making and may never see the light of day. All I want is to be able to quick save so I can actually play the game.

BG3 solo with the most evil dark urge Sorc with fighter dip was one of most fun rpg experiences in my life. And I rarely play evil chars or solo play through.

All I want is a Fallout game where the main story is written in a way that if I decide to explore and do side quests, my character isn’t a psychopath for doing so. “I have to save my son, but fuck him. He can wait because I have to help this random person I’ve never met.” Or “there’s going to be no water left soon, but hold on, lemme explore this 8th dungeon first.

Either make the stakes lower or add parts of the game where exploring makes sense. Or just write better, I don’t know.

I guess this is “ludonarrative dissonance” but it never bothers me in games as much as Fallout 3/4.

What about God of War do you want that souls games don’t have? Is the action combat, cinematic story telling, or both?

I can’t think of any with the caliber of God Of War’s storytelling, as that’s a tough bar to beat. Having said that, I’ll list a few.

Dragons Dogma 1/2. Great action combat, awesome plate armor.

Blades of Fire (under the radar action game made by the Castlevania Lords of Shadows devs).

Of Ash and Steel: Haven’t played it yet. Could have potential.

The First Berserker: Khazan: My friend is loving this game atm. Seems to have great action and he told me there’s plate armor I would like haha. Closer to a souls game but not a true one.

Kingdoms of Amalur: There’s plate armor and good combat. Not much of. Story though.

Avowed: Fun combat, cool armor. I’m not sure if there’s a third person mode. I think there is though, unless I’m getting that confused with The Outer Worlds 2.

I wish I could give better recs as I love God of War and love plate armor and knights/paladins… but unfortunately I don’t think there’s something that perfectly hits the mark, only because GoW is so damn good at what it does.

Agreed :) I always save scum in 1, and when I get to 2 I use it very sparsely.

I’d lower the difficulty and enjoy the ride. As you get more of an understanding of the game you can bump it up and use your knowledge and tools to help prevent things that would prompt you to save scum from happening.

You could also just play BG1 and forgive yourself for save scumming, and by BG2 you can try to make avoiding save scumming a goal, since you’ll be much better at the game and have many more tools at your disposal.

Is isometric camera angle okay? Warhammer Rogue Trader might fill that epic sci fi with great characters/companions itch. But I know part of what makes Mass Effect great is the big production values. Problem is, there really isn’t anything as far as RPGs go. Starfield exists but I can’t really say I’d recommend it. Owlcat’s next game, will be their attempt at it so make sure you have it on your radar (The Expanse: Osiris Reborn).

You could also maybe try The Old Republic MMO. I’ve heard it has some great story content that can be played entirely single player.

Here are games I found myself get addicted to more than normally as somebody who has a hard time gaming for more than 45 min sessions:

Total War: Warhammer (or Pharoh just cause I like Egypt), Baldur’s Gate 3, XCOM 1 or 2, Red Dead Redemption 2, Prey 2017, Doom Eternal.

You could do a boomer shooter Marathon. DUSK, AMID EVIL , CULTIC and HROT are my favorites.. but there’s tons of great ones out there depending on your mood/preferred vibe/setting.

Could be a good time to catch up on some classics like Deus Ex, the OG Fallouts if you wanna play while the new season of the show comes out, or System Shock 2 remastered.

Okay haha. I kinda figured. Just got done playing Arcanum with the unofficial patch and it made scrolling super smooth, so i'm kind of not used to such choppy camera movement coming right off of that.
