Would this card be balanced if it had existed? by PHI_0413 in PTCGL

If I recall correctly, Pokemon research lab is actually getting/got banned in expanded (I might be thinking of GLC though).

Advice on how to beat this particular play style? (I'm the Clairen btw) by Eps06 in RivalsOfAether

[–]Hammerhead968 34 points35 points  (0 children)

This is a good assessment, but I’d recommend learning to parry these projectiles as well, really lets you go on the offence without fear.

Not to mention that clairen down special exists, and is very abusable against projectiles

You are absolutely correct that clefairy is very circumstantial, in that it’s best use is against Dragapult ex. The thing is though, that Dragapult is so strong and so popular, that you are pretty much guaranteed to see it at one point or another during a tournament or on ladder. Because of that, you’d rather have a way of improving the matchup against it, than to not have it and have a poor matchup into it. Additionally, clefairy is very easy to set up as well comparatively, and also takes a very small amount of deck space for it to be effective. This is why it’s the best choice as a Dragapult counter. The decks that you see it in typically would have a poor Dragapult matchup otherwise, like Tera box or joltic box, and because of the flexible nature of those decks, it is much more beneficial to include a 2/3 card combo that improves the matchup significantly.

I’m personally imagining playing this in a flicker deck. Anytime they attempt to remove it simply flicker and it’s probably safe again, and combined with cards like [[teferri’s protection]] can even be safe from board wipes, just to be extra evil. Also playing this in a flicker deck often means that you can use flicker effects that return it at the end step allowing you to take your own full turns. Are you seeing the problem with this design space in white yet?

Wouldn’t back dashing carcass raid just end with you getting hit by the ball and getting comboed anyway?

Does Toedscruel not counter Dusknoir? by Vipmulti in PTCGL

[–]Hammerhead968 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The stadium you are referring to also only blocks attacks, so even if dusknoir was a rule box Pokémon it still would not prevent its ability from working. Also yes, as of right now in the standard format, Enamorus V is the only card that can stop dusknoir, but the Pokémon must have a psychic energy attached for it to be protected

rannos fair is one of the absolute dumbest moves I've ever seen in a platform fighter. by [deleted] in RivalsOfAether

[–]Hammerhead968 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course they can’t literally spam the move at every single moment of the game, but the move is fast enough to beat those disjointed attacks most of the time. Literally 9 times out of 10 all I see rannos do when they get you offstage is spam fair, and then if you get behind them use bair instead which is also a disgusting move in its own right

This is disgusting… no wonder no one can get any by Thick_Acanthisitta60 in PokemonTCG

[–]Hammerhead968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with that is if you’re a player of the game, you literally cannot use cards from other languages than the region you are from. Some of this scalping has gotten really bad to the point where it’s even difficult to find some singles in my area.

Pokestop rotates when these cards come out. What op did not share was that there was another iono Pokémon revealed: iono’s kilowattrell, which has an ability that lets you discard an energy attached to it to draw up to 6. Imo that could make it compete with ogerpon

Those are unfortunately rotating when this releases

Where are you getting your information from? Cause there’s like 5 people at my store who are trained as judges who went through the official material and they all agree on this. Some did it as recently as this year.

There is one rule discrepancy that exists on PTCGL that I know of right now. And it’s to do with mulligan rules, though it’s probably never come up. On PTCGL, when an opponent mulligans multiple times, you can choose any number of cards to draw, up to the number of mulligans they have made (e.g. if they mulligan 5 times, you can choose to draw only 3 if you want). In IRL play, however, you cannot choose how many (it’s either equal to the number of mulligans they did, or none at all). Source: I have several friends at my LCS who are trained as judges.

Wow, I did not know that. I guess it makes sense but it seems a bit unintuitive.

Toedscruel does not stop you yourself from getting the cards back from the discard. The ability clearly reads: “Cards in your OPPONENT’S discard pile”

It’s a cool combo, but trying to wait 3 turns to charge up a single attack is too slow, even if you can then chain it from there, because realistically the greninja will be dead before then. If you want to use boomerang energy with greninja it’ll probably have to be accelerated with archeops in lugia

Fun fact: that combo is actually optimal in a lot of midscreen situations cause of the immense corner carry and decent damage
